Hi Paul, fyi - I am not grouching, just pointing out issues for
correction of a better product. I was notified by the development staff
that the issue has not been fixed and they have not determined a fix. I am
a fan of Legacy, however there is always room for improvement

Hi David.  Thank you for your service also.   I am Paul Hilton of New
Brunswick, Canada.  I have had no problems with Legacy since I started using it
in 2006.  There is a great deal of effort being put into both Heritage and
Legacy.  I take part in the great Legacy Webinars each week and I have learned
a huge amount of data via them.  I also belong to the New England Historical
GenealogicalSociety and there is so much data coming from its members as well.
Instead of possibly grouching and leaving Legacy try and contact Geoff and
members of the staff to get clarification re some of the problems.  If I have
problems, I ask for assistance from Geoff Rasmussen and he usually is able to
assist me with the problems or tells me who to contact.  Thanks for your
Emails.  Sincerely, Paul Morris Hilton     tiny...@rogers.com

platforms, and each one has it's pros and cons. None are perfect, and if I
can't do something on one of them, I use another. From what I've seen from
following this forum, most of the problem are user problems. Not understanding
what the program can or cannot do. With the many different and strange ways
that people want to use it for, I certainly do not blame the programmers. They
cannot anticipate what you want to do. If you don't like it, use another
platform. Been doing this for 35+ years.

Great support reply, Michelle!

Is 20 people in two months with major things they don't like, out of tens of
thousands users, a large pct of unhappy users? I don't think so.

If users feel there is a better product they should get off this forum and
switch products.

Let those who are here continue working together to keep this as the best
product. I am tired of these complainer s. Nothing forcing them to stay.

If they wish to stay and complain, then they should complain to the support
group, not the users.

Cindy,
I am a little confused. You said you have been using Legacy for several years
but you are having problems getting info on how to generate reports, publish
etc. There have been no changes in how reports are generated (a few more
options have been added to make the reports cooler).

1) On every screen in Legacy there is a Help button. If you click the Help
button it will take you to the appropriate location in the Help File for that
topic so that you don't have to search for what you are looking for.

2) Legacy 9 now includes the PDF version of the User's Guide. In previous
versions this was a separate purchase.

3) We also have Knowledge Base articles that are searchable here
http://support.legacyfamilytree.com   ;

4) The Legacy videos (free) are here
http://www.familytreewebinars.com/legacy_videos.php   ;

5) You are a member of the mailing list and you can ask any questions here

6) If you are on Facebook there is a Legacy Users Group there that has over
18,000 members. You can join here
https://www.facebook.com/groups/LegacyUserGroup/

Both of the Legacy Users Groups are monitored by some of the staff, beta
testers, and translators.

7) Here is a collection of Legacy 101 articles
http://news.legacyfamilytree.com/legacy_news/2018/05/compilation-of-legacy-101articles.html
 ;

You can get most of your questions answered using these tools. If there is a
question that you haven't been able to find the answer to you can email us at
supp...@legacyfamilytree.com or if you have a suggestion for a new feature you
would like to see, you can submit it here

database.
However, I also recently upgraded to Legacy 9 and have been having problems
getting
info on how to generate reports, publish, etc.

If Legacy has been sold to someone else whose programmers are not going to be
responsive
I would consider moving to another platform or software if there is one as
robust as Legacy.
Any suggestions?

It’s not that simple, they set the precedent by being timely and efficient,
this is a product we bought and paid for, they advertise continuous updates
and new features to keep it fresh and up to date. We are not just bitching to
bitch, we are being let down and they need to know that we as customers
will hold them to their own desired standards.

Most of us love the program, we just need some genuine customer service,
which sadly, seems to be a thing of the past, we want results, not lip service.

Re: [LegacyUG] Programmers?

2018-09-17 Thread Linda Greethurst
I have used Legacy since version 3. I'm one of those "smucks" who doesn't
know anything about programming except that it is not simple to get
everything to work correctly and still have so many variances. I'm also
one of those who spends time learning to use the program by watching and
reading tutorials, user groups, webinars - then ask questions if I still
can't figure it out. And I have had very, very few problems with Legacy
and have been very satisfied with it. Each version makes the whole even
more complicated, powerful and it is still very reasonably priced.

Instead of this constant complaining about Legacy, perhaps you all should
get together and write your own program and call it "My Perfect Software
Just For Me".

This User Group is for learning how to use the Legacy software as it is
designed right now - not what some of you want it to be. Gripping doesn't
solve anything. How about this: If you can't be helpful, then be quiet!
 Please?

You totally miss the point! Legacy made its reputation on swift response from
the programmers. Having now been acquired by MyHeritage, it is being milked for
its reputation, which, as is an age-old tactic in such acquisitions, for its
reputations. MyHeritage programmers were ludicrous; the company needed fresh
blood, so acquired a reputable company, and is proceeding to eviscerate it
while living off of it's reputation - for as long as that lasts.

Perhaps, just perhaps, Lwegacy programmers are trying (desperately) to create a
decent database for MyHeritage.

If that happens to be the case (will I live so long), they are totally ignoring
the concerns of the customers who made them such a prize that MyHeritage wanted
to acquire them.

It happens in all businesses. It is so sad that the knowledgeable customers who
pushed Legacy to add new features and correct problems, have been ignored for
too many years. Problems used to be fixed soon. That is no longer the case.
Alas.

Cindy,
I am a little confused.

3) We also have Knowledge Base articles that are searchable here
http://support.legacyfamilytree.com

4) The Legacy videos (free) are here
http://www.familytreewebinars.com/legacy_videos.php

5) You are a member of the mailing list and you can ask any questions here

6) If you are on Facebook there is a Legacy Users Group there that has over
18,000 members. You can join here
https://www.facebook.com/groups/LegacyUserGroup/

Both of the Legacy Users Groups are monitored by some of the staff, beta
testers, and translators.

7) Here is a collection of Legacy 101 articles
http://news.legacyfamilytree.com/legacy_news/2018/05/compilation-of-legacy-101articles.html

You can get most of your questions answered using these tools. If there is a
question that you haven't been able to find the answer to you can email us at
supp...@legacyfamilytree.com or if you have a suggestion for a new feature you
would like to see, you can submit it here

If Legacy has been sold to someone else whose programmers are not going to be

Despite the fact that I believe the programmers have passed I still think
that Legacy is the best software out there.
Even with all its annoying problems it is the better of all those that I

Re: [LegacyUG] Programmers?

2018-09-17 Thread dwqusc
I completely agree with ALL of the criticism directed at the Legacy owners
and the programmers it directs to whatever is most important to management.
I too have been waiting for more than a year on changes to fix errors - NOT
improvements - in the existing Legacy.

Unfortunately, Legacy is what I have chosen to use, and up until a year or
so ago I was very pleased with it. I am now so saddened by what has taken
place after the purchase by MyHeritage, Ltd. But they have us under a
barrel. What can we do? Not much. They know most of us won't change.
Sad! Sad ! Sad!

I feel most sorry for folks like Michelle Lewis & Cathy Pinner, who have
been so helpful to us all over the years, who have had to bear the "sticks
and arrows" we have all been slinging, because we have no way to make our
complaints known to the real culprit in the drama - My Heritage, Ltd. And,
I hate to say it, but Geoff Rasmussen has been extremely quiet during the
upheaval that has taken place - seemingly acting as if nothing has been
going wrong. Sad! Sad! Sad!

I apologize for hurting anyone's feelings, but I had to say what I have just
said.

The original message to the list is in the attachment.

This action is required because of the DMARC Reject/Quarantine Policy
imposed by some email providers. Users who want to send messages without
conversion to attachments should use a different email address for their

Known providers for free email accounts whose emails do not require this

will also work but you will have to give them a try.

Re: [LegacyUG] Programmers?

Cindy,
I am a little confused.

3) We also have Knowledge Base articles that are searchable here
http://support.legacyfamilytree.com

4) The Legacy videos (free) are here
http://www.familytreewebinars.com/legacy_videos.php

5) You are a member of the mailing list and you can ask any questions here

6) If you are on Facebook there is a Legacy Users Group there that has over
18,000 members. You can join here
https://www.facebook.com/groups/LegacyUserGroup/

Both of the Legacy Users Groups are monitored by some of the staff, beta
testers, and translators.

7) Here is a collection of Legacy 101 articles
http://news.legacyfamilytree.com/legacy_news/2018/05/compilation-of-legacy-101articles.html

You can get most of your questions answered using these tools. If there is a
question that you haven't been able to find the answer to you can email us at
supp...@legacyfamilytree.com or if you have a suggestion for a new feature you
would like to see, you can submit it here

However, I also recently upgraded to Legacy 9 and have been having problems

If Legacy has been sold to someone else whose programmers are not going to be

I would consider moving to another platform or software if there is one as
robust as Legacy.
Any suggestions?

Well, I haven't done much with Legacy 9 since upgrading. But if you are having
all these problems, is the consensus to move on to another platform is one does
not have a lot invested in Legacy? Maybe that's not an appropriate question,
but if the programmers know a lot of users are unhappy, seems like they would
respond.

Maybe, just maybe, the programmers are busy re-writing Legacy in Unicode.
Well, we can dream, can't we?

Mapping does not work in any of the previous versions because Legacy is not
interested in making it work. It is SIMPLE MANY other sites QUICKLY updated
to the new Bing standards, but Legacy, quite obviously, can't be bothered. So
much for listening to the people who made Legacy into a great program. Now they
are ruining it.

live with the current situation. The last option is the least preferable.

Re: [LegacyUG] Programmers?

2018-09-16 Thread Cathy Pinner

We'd all like our pet bugs fixed. I know I have a few.

However, the programmers are not doing nothing.
Current GR release is no 226. Current beta release is 253. Each release
has numbers of fixes to test.

If you have particular problems in mind, you need to contact Support or
send them in so they get entered or updated in the bug tracking, not
report here where they mostly go nowhere.

I am beginning to think that the programmers of Lagacy all quit
when the company sold, or they have gone to sleep.

The simplest of fixes has not been done and there is no sign of
any real changes or updates to the code.

For example how hard is it to make a field unique entry.  The FAG
number should be unique and yet  this program keeps erasing the
number when its duplicated, not when its entered where it would be
noticed but only after a cleanup.

Rule #1 "do not destroy customer data"

Yep, I just got angry,  sorry.

The original message to the list is in the attachment.

This action is required because of the DMARC Reject/Quarantine Policy
imposed by some email providers. Users who want to send messages
without conversion to attachments should use a different email address
for their subscription.

Known providers for free email accounts whose emails do not require
this conversion include gmail.com and hotmail.com. Many other email
providers will also work but you will have to give them a try.--- Begin Message ---
