Reduce size of the pdf-Document

2014-10-14 Thread Uwe Ade
Hello,

I use Lyx with beamer to make my slides for lectures. Are there any Option
build in Lyx I can set to reduce the Size to the final-pdf?

Thanks

No - but this is one question which comes up again and again.

There are several options what one can do, i.e. resize images manually,
create a copier in LyX to resize the images automatically or resize the
resulting pdf via an external program.

But it all depends why your pdf is so large.

Cheers,

Rainer

A while ago I set up a script (aimed at Linux) that reduces the PDF file
size:

Of course, the prize is image quality. So you need to play a bit with it to
find a reasonable compromise.

Nice - and I guess it will also work under mac when ghostscript is
installed.

Nevertheless, it would be really nice, if there would be an option in
LyX to down-sample all images of a certain type to a given resolution
automatically.

It looks line you use utf8 encoding for the bib file. I suggest you use

LyX preview problem

Hello! My xypic diagrams are not previewing in LyX. I can see the matrix with

fine and the diagrams look good in the pdf. I have gone into preferences,

I don't know for sure what the problem is, but I have a laptop with Windows

might try to go to Tools-TeX Information and see what's there. It should
give you the path to the LaTeX class files. Also, Help-LaTeX configuration
should generate a document that tells what classes, fonts, etc. your LyX is
aware of. If Richard is right (highly likely) and LyX is having trouble
finding the LaTeX classes, then this should become evident when checking
the configuration as suggested, and needs fixed. I would try to go to
Help-About LyX and make sure you have MiKTeX (and Python, ghostscript,

If you open the bib file with a text editor and set the editor's

Yes, that worked. Does perhaps somebody know why setting the bib file in

Did I get it right, it is a matter of my bibfile encoding, not of lyx?

You should try coding Standard-Zeichenkodierung: Cp1252 in JabRef.

No - but this is one question which comes up again and again.

There are several options what one can do, i.e. resize images manually,
create a copier in LyX to resize the images automatically or resize the
resulting pdf via an external program.

But it all depends why your pdf is so large.

A while ago I set up a script (aimed at Linux) that reduces the PDF file

Of course, the prize is image quality. So you need to play a bit with it to

Nevertheless, it would be really nice, if there would be an option in

LyX is finding the layouts and modules, etc, just fine. What it's failing
to find are the LaTeX classes, etc, and that is because system
reconfiguration has failed. This is probably due to some problem with your
python installation. But I do not know anything about Windows, so can't say
 more.

I don't know for sure what the problem is, but I have a laptop with Windows
8.1 and LyX and it works fine. I am using LyX 2.1.0 and MiKTeX 2.9. You
might try to go to Tools-TeX Information and see what's there. It should
give you the path to the LaTeX class files.
I would try to go to
Help-About LyX and make sure you have MiKTeX (and Python, ghostscript,
etc) in the path prefix. If this doesn't help you get there, maybe you can
post yours. Mine says,

No - but this is one question which comes up again and again.

There are several options what one can do, i.e. resize images manually,
create a copier in LyX to resize the images automatically or resize the
resulting pdf via an external program.

But it all depends why your pdf is so large.

A while ago I set up a script (aimed at Linux) that reduces the PDF file

LyX preview problem

Hello! My xypic diagrams are not previewing in LyX. I can see the matrix with
the code, but no nice WYSIWYG picture with nodes and arrows. The file compiles
fine and the diagrams look good in the pdf. I have gone into preferences,

LyX is finding the layouts and modules, etc, just fine. What it's
failing to find are the LaTeX classes, etc, and that is because "system
reconfiguration has failed". This is probably due to some problem with
your python installation. But I do not know anything about Windows, so

No. As I wrote, you need to set it to latin9 (ISO8859_15), not UTF8. At

With

ISO8859_15

I still do not get the correct Umlaut into my lyx document. I also saved

I don't know for sure what the problem is, but I have a laptop with Windows
8.1 and LyX and it works fine. I am using LyX 2.1.0 and MiKTeX 2.9. You
might try to go to Tools->TeX Information and see what's there. It should
give you the path to the LaTeX class files. Also, Help->LaTeX configuration
should generate a document that tells what classes, fonts, etc. your LyX is
aware of. If Richard is right (highly likely) and LyX is having trouble
finding the LaTeX classes, then this should become evident when checking
the configuration as suggested, and needs fixed. I would try to go to
Help->About LyX and make sure you have MiKTeX (and Python, ghostscript,
etc) in the path prefix. If this doesn't help you get there, maybe you can
post yours. Mine says,
$LyXDir\bin;$LyXDir\Python;$LyXDir\Python\Lib;$LyXDir\Perl\bin;$LyXDir\imagemagick;C:\Program

If you open the bib file with a text editor and set the editor's encoding
to ISO8859_15, does it contain the correct glyph? It might have happened
that the bib file was saved with a scrambled encoding.

My apologies. Here are two lyx files.

Doug,

that's better. But I have to say: both are working on my system -
a Mac with LyX-2.1.2 on OS X 10.8.6. I've noticed I have to click
somewhere sometimes to trigger the display of the preview snippet.

The two examples are different only regarding the \use_non_tex_fonts
and the \font_roman setting in the preferences.

What you can do to check for errors converting is to open the message
pane and enable the graphics conversion message. There you should see
the problem if one exists.

You should try coding "Standard-Zeichenkodierung: Cp1252" in JabRef.

Hi Dough,

note the difference in the two calls: the 2nd one has an additional switch
"--latex=xelatex".
This may be caused by the XeTeX/LuaTeX setting in the document settings.
Perhaps you can live

How to change margin in a especific paragraph?

2014-10-14 Thread Oliveira Eugenio
Hi guys,

I am trying to set up an specific paragraph in a documente where the
margins has to be totally different from the rest of the document. I tried

Can someone help me with that? I need to confess that I am a new Lyx user!

Re: LyX preview problem

2014-10-14 Thread Lauen, Douglas L
Stephan,

Yes! going to document settings, fonts, and then unclicking “Use non-Tex
fonts…” solves the problem with displaying my diagram. Thank you.
Now with that option unchecked, I cannot typeset my document using command-R. I
guess I can use other ways to view my output, though.
Do you know why command-R doesn’t work? Is there a way to fix that?
Before my update I did not encounter this, so something must be different now!
