I have had good experience using reStructuredText as a cooperative
format. It is a fairly powerful "plain text" markup. It has the
advantage of a formal specification and good converters to oo, LaTeX
and xhtml.

I just compiled 1.5.3 on Debian Etch. I have the build-essential
package installed and the libqt4-dev.
It went flawlessly. 1.5.3 looks great - you guys are terrific!

Since there seems to be some interest in this, I would like to offer my
alternative experience.
I am a great believer in outlines for anything longer than a letter to
Mum. I also use them the way that Steve talks about - outline - write -
outline, etc.
