Have you tried quiting the ERT in the middle, writing Hebrew and then
opening another ERT? The only thing to note is the order of the two ERTs
(in an RTL paragraph): The first one (e.g begin{... ) should be on the
right and the closing one (e.g. }) shuld be on the left. There might
also be an issue with the languge you mark the ERTs to be (I think they
need to be english).

Have you tried to press M-i-l (M stands for Alt usually) while the
cursor is in the equation? (You could also do it from the menu
Insert-Label).

Notice that this will make sense only for a display formula, not an
inline one (C-m). For a Display formula lyx will write the label to the
right of the equation, and in the output a number will appear there.

Try and use a math-macro in lyx.
If you define it to be \mathbf{Re}, then \R will be replaced
automatically (in math-mode) with the propper symbol. Also, you can use
the extra right field of the math-macro, to tell lyx how to display the

fancyhdr and hebrew (again)

2003-10-22 Thread Amir Seginer
Hello,

I'm trying to use the fancyhdr package in a hebrew document, however I
get a strange behavior: The left and right headers seem to switch places
some times.(this is not because of odd/even numbered pages)

I could not find what triggers this switching. For example, in the
attached file, this always happens on the last page, however I have a
more complex file in which the headers switch and then switch back again.

Please note, that in the example file, I get hebrew giberish instead of
the english text, when the headers are switched.

I also tried to define the headers in a right-to-left paragraph, but
then I would get errors in the compilation.

Thanks for any help,

Amir.

P.S.

As far as I know, ~ is a special character in LaTeX. Lyx automaticaly

in math mode. If you want the symbol to appear in an equation you need
to enter \sim or equivalently use the math panel.

The problem, in my opinion, is the wrong color of the symbol. It appears
black in LyX's math mode, but should appear red (since it is latex
code). I've sent a feature request about this (bug #590) some time ago.

optional arguments in math. how to?

2003-07-10 Thread Amir Seginer
Hello,

I've just been trying use the command \xrightarrow with it optional
argument, e.g.

\[ leftside \xright[down]{up} rightside \]

Is it possible to do this (and in general use optional arguments in
math/display mode)? I've tried writing it as regular text (without the
\[ and \]) and turning it to a math/display mode. I've also tried to
insert it manually in the .lyx file, but to no avail.

I did manage to use it in an ERT box, but I would rather not write the
whole equation that way.

If it is indeed imposible, might it be better if there was an option
within math mode to enter pure latex, without Lyx helping in the
middle. Something like the ERT box in the regular text. I think (if I
remember correctly) that it was possible in earlier version 1.1.6 (or so).

Thanks for any help,

Amir.

P.S.

I'm using Lyx 1.2.1 (Xforms)

\xrightarrow is supported 'natively'.

Just make sure to enable AMS.
The problem is the optional argument, not just using \xrightarrow

Even that work.
No it doesn't (for me), the moment I press [ to start the optional
argument I'm out of LaTeX mode and into LyX's math mode. I would like
something in which LyX will not interfere (like in the ERT box in
plain text after pressing ctrl-L) - This should be used only for special
cases. The use of \ to turn on math-mode is good (and much more
convenient) for 99.99% of the cases.

Brr... I think it should work there, too, but I've not checked.
Especially the native xrightarrow support might be a 1.3.x feature.
Not the optional argument (just the text above the arrow).

Thanks again,

Amir.

P.S.

1.3.x is not exactly an option, I would like to have compatibilty with
the university computer.

Thanks.

something in which LyX will not "interfere" (like in the ERT box in
plain text after pressing ctrl-L) - This should be used only for special
cases. The use of "\" to turn on math-mode is good (and much more
convenient) for 99.99% of the cases.

I'm using Lyx 1.2.1 (Xforms)

Thanks.

Hello,

have you installed (for the QT front end) the latex-ttf-fonts package?
In the LyX ftp site it is in the contrib directory.

fancyhdr and Hebrew - almost solved

2003-06-09 Thread Amir Seginer
OK, I have solved half of my problems. I can now write hebrew properly
in the headers and footers: just put the commands
\selectlanguage{hebrew} and \inputencoding{cp1255} within the \lhead
command (see attached file).

However, Latex sometime exchanges the left and right headers, depending
somehow on what I right within the body of the document. I've attached a
small example of the problem (again, see attached file).

Thanks for any help,

Amir.

package fancyhdr and Hebrew

2003-06-08 Thread Amir Seginer
Hello,

I'm trying to put Hebrew headers into a document using fancyhdr.sty. I
have two problems:

1) How do I control whether the language of the header is in Hebrew or
English (see attached files).

2) I don't seem to find a relatively simple method of writing hebrew in
the \lhead{} (and its like) commands in the preample. The hebrew I got
in the first example is just a misprint of test (I'd rather not try
all combinations of keybord keys which give the desired hebrew letters).

Thanks for any help,

Amir.

P.S.

If there is another solution that would be fine too.

Re: floatflt figures just before bibliography

2003-06-07 Thread Amir Seginer
Hello,

Have you thought of using a diffrent package like picins or wrapfig.
You'll have to use a minimal ERT for those, though. I think that picins
is the most robust, although I'm no expert.

Hope this helps,

Amir.

P.S.

By the way does any one know how to use these packages properly with
Hebrew? I've sort of managed to use picins by telling it that the width
of the figure is negative and also giving it a strange offset, but this
seems like an awkward solution and it isn't perfect yet.

wrap around them, right at the end of the document, just before the bibtex

on the bibliography page. Very strange sight. It seems it's even trying to
wrap the bibliography around the picture, but it only gets to move the title,
the word Bibliography, and then everything goes to hell.

It's especially strange since I have a page break right before the
bibliography so it should be on its own page no matter what.

The extended features doc DID say that the package was kinda fragile though,
so, I guess I shoulda seen it comin'. But if someone knows a way around this
that is not a huge pain with writing tons of weird LaTeX code and exporting
to and fro... then don't be shy.

Hebrew in Ruurd Reitsma's Lyx port

2003-06-07 Thread Amir Seginer
Hello,

A friend of mine has installed Ruurd Reitsma's Lyx port on Windows-XP.
All seems to work except for one problem. When typing hebrew, the
letters appear in reverse order, i.e. when you type ABC (actually aleph
bet gimel) it shows on the screen CBA (gimel bet aleph).

The same problem also occurs when opening (in windows) files written
properly on a linux machine. I'm guessing this is because Windows works
natively with hebrew and so it automatically reverses the order of the
letters, however so does LyX, and the result is that they cancell each
other.

Any Idea/help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Amir.

have that appereance from lyx.

What i mean is image (graphics) in the middle of the article or text.

Is there any tex code or something like that to be added into preamble?

Please help,

Re: math editor problems - 1.3.1

2003-03-22 Thread Amir Seginer
Hello,

Hi.. I'm having trouble with some simple math in the math editor.. I'm getting
errors saying there are missing $, } etc.. I'm attaching a sample file here
which has 2 lines of math text that gives me 15 errors. Please let me know what
needs to be done to correct this (if it can be corrected by the user..)
The problem was in the second equation on the first line. To solve it I
simply rewrote it (see attached file) --- I'm assuming you didn't want
the right parenthasis in bold.

This kind of problem happens to me from time to time in lyx
(mysterious errors which are solved by rewrting a small section).

In this case it might be the \mathrm in your equation which then
includes \mathbf (maybe you pressed C-m by mistake within the equation?).

I should add however, that when I deleted by hand the \mathrm and its
appropriate {} (second attached file), in the exported LaTeX file,
running Latex on it gave me no problems but importing it back did give
me problems

I Hope this helps,

Amir.

For example to create a macro \mysum for the sum, enter in the
mini-buffer (M-x to reach it)

math-macro mysum 2	(no \ before mysum)

Then at the box you get, simply enter a sum with subscript #1 (without
the quatations) and a superscript #2 i.e. enter

\sum_{#1}^{#2}

now when you type \mysum in math mode Lyx will give you two boxes to
write the limits in.

Hope this helps,

Re: alphabetic order for style list?

2003-02-21 Thread Amir Seginer
Hello,

This might be difficult to implement, or simply undesired, but how about
detachable groups like in the symbols in the math-panel (in 1.3.0-Qt
this seems very convenient). I could then detach a sections panel
with, say, chapter, section, subsection,... and another, say,
mathematical panel with theorem, lemma, proof, ...

It would of course be nice, if I could somehow also create my own panels
(by editing some text file for example).

I do agree however that a full list should appear somewhere (maybe
detach the panels from the list).

installing (1.3.0) Thesaurus mini-bug?

2003-02-07 Thread Amir Seginer
Hello,

I've just finished installing Lyx-1.3.0 and intend to check it out.
However, I've had one problem of installing Lyx with the thesaurus. I
installed Aiksaurus (Aiksaurus-0.15-1rh80.i386.rpm from the Lyx ftp
site). However during the make process Lyx complained that it couldn't
find /usr/lib/libAiksaurus.so.

To solve this I creadted alink libAiksaurus.so to libAiksaurus.so.0
(well actually to /usr/lib/libAiksaurus.so.0.15). This does not mean
that libAiksaurus.so.0 is not needed, since when starting lyx it looks
for libAiksaurus.so.0.

I don't know if this is an Aiksaurus or lyx bug (or maybe just mine).

I hope this helps any one,

Amir.

P.S.

I'm assuming this problem also exists in other (1.2.x) versions since my
thesaurus didn't work there either.

2002-12-12 Thread Amir Seginer
Hello,

I have just started using the tex2pdf script (see Lyx's tips tricks
under pdf). This works very well for me. After installation, just choose
File - Export - PDF (pdflatex) and it does all the needed conversions
(including for xfig) and gives a good pdf file. The only minor problem
is that you can't use dots in the file name (except one before the file
extension).
