OK, that's similar to using LanguageTool/Andtidote or some other
grammar checker via web...

It would be nice to have something more integrated with LyX!

grammar check

2024-04-24 Thread Saša Janiška
Hello,

I've decided to do my note-taking (Zettelkasten) by just using pen &
paper and when I want to produce some context I'll just use LyX -
exporting to markdown when I want something for the web (using Tiki
CMS) or LyX/LaTeX for writing articles (pdfs), slide-presentations,
books…

However, being non-native speaker/writer I do find useful to use some
grammar checkers.

To support LanguageTool I've subscribed to Premium version,
but found out that despite being open-source etc. it has its
limitations (see e.g. https://github.com/valentjn/ltex-ls/issues/215).

Otoh, I've a licence for proprietary Antidote
(https://www.druide.com/en) which can check text provided as e.g.
markdown, LaTeX...

Now I wonder if you have any suggestion how to review lyx-gc to either
support newer versions of LanguageTool or to use Antidote's ability to
grammar-check LaTeX markup considering that lyx-gc was using chktex to
do the task.

Any other suggestion how to add grammar-check feature to LyX?

Sincerely,
Saša

p.s. TLDR; I did two books more than 20 years ago using LyX. In the meantime I
tried few
times with ConTeXt, but never had enought time to overcome lack of good docs.
:-)

Now, when I'm more in study-mode and have to prepare /both for my & my wife)
some presentations, I, naturally, returned back to LyX, but had some problems
due to my ignorance of LyX-Beamer combo. Now, I believe that all the obstacles
are behind us, and I am thrilled that good-old LyX did the job without resort
to HTML/JS (reveal) technology.

Actually, I'm looking forward to embrace LyX as my main writing tool instead of
fiddling with different editors (Vim, Emacs etc.) and then simply deal with
export/import when there is is need to put some content online.

speaker notes & Beamer

2023-02-23 Thread Saša Janiška
Hello,

I need to put together one presentation and wonder how to deal with the speaker
notes in Beamer?

Are they visible in Linux PDF viewers like Atril/Evince or Acrobat if I'd just
copy presentation on USB stick to present under Windows OS?

One option for presenting might be to use (https://pdfpc.github.io/), but in
that case it seems that preferrable way is to use notes embedded in *.pdfpc
files, possibly formatted with Markdown markup.

Any hint?

I'd like to check my documents with the LanguageTool. There is support for it
for different editors and LaTeX via LTeX Language Server

In the Wiki there is info https://wiki.lyx.org/Tools/LyX-GrammarChecker wich is

In the past I was using Antidote, but after upgrading they removed Linux
support from the desktop version, so I'd prefere to support LanugeTool...

Yes, I agree that LO could be appropriate for short & quick documents, but for
everything larger LyX/LateX are more suitable for the task...

Now, I'm curious if anyone tried to explore ConTeXt

Yes, there is probably steep(er) learning curve, but in the long run?

Thank you for elaborating the issue which might be handy if I plan to write
more semantically rich content in which case it is maybe better to just offer
PDF output for download on the web site?

I did explore both rst - which is a bit strange markup and Asciidoc(tor), but
the spec is going to be written in Java which will bring another chain
of deps. :-(

By settling on LyX/LateX I'm sure I can, at least, produce high-quality PDF
output for my articles, study-notes, book, slide presentations etc. and be sure
they are going to be present in the foreseeable future which I am not so sure
when it comes to e.g. ConTeXt.

I do *not* want HTML & PDF for the same document, but want to use the *same*
editor for creating both HTML content (to be pasted into Tiki CMS) as well as
PDF for everything else. ;)

Well, for LyX --> HTML I only did LyX --> lyXHTML export and it looked OK for a
sample file, iow. no thorough evaluating.

Same thing with LyX --> Markdown (via Pandoc), I just defined converter based
on Peter's post/screenshots.

So, I'm not sure that is going to make you happy...

Thank you - it works nicely!

Triedthe letter and it works very nicely, although it's possibly a little bit
bloated, but will try Markdown via Pandoc...

For some time I was considering to use Asciidoc(tor), but decided to go back to
LyX instead, but, yes, DocBook output might be better fit semantically...will
try it out.

LyX --> markdown

2020-08-11 Thread Saša Janiška
Hello!

More than 20 yrs ago I did a 2-part full-fledged books using
LyX/LaTeX/xindy and akthough in the meantime I was experimenting with
several light markups (Asciidoc, rst, markdown..) now I'd čike to write
all my study notes, articels, blog posts, slide-show
presentations...using LyX editor, but for the web part I use Tiki CMS
where I can copy & paste markdown code for the content, so wonder what
would be recommended way to get from LyX to markdown?

Perfect!! It works nicely with \input{symbols}, so I can define all the
required commands in a single file for re-use...and I use it with LuaTeX
engine. For quite some time I was considering to learn/use ConTeXt, but the
fact is that LyX/LaTeX are simply enjoying more (community) support.

using unicode instead of marvosym symbols

2018-08-30 Thread Saša Janiška

Hello,

I plan to start using LyX for writing my study notes where the content requires
lot of astro symbols. In the past I was using marvosym font/package and writing
e.g. \Sun \Aries etc.

Now I'd like to use Unicode symbols instead of marvosym and wonder what would
be the optimal way to do it *without* the need to type Unicode character's hex
code, iow. via some shortcut like above (\Sun...)?
