I guess you are, if I understand the commputer in question is the same one you have the disk immage issue? If so those immages are mounting during boot up. If not just forget what I wrote and you might want to consider a little more kindness when someone is just trying to suggest a few things

Oh, no. No matter how fast I'd do it it would still mess up on me. If I turn VoiceOver off and then press the home button twice, it does it right every time. Also, sometimes if I flick right or left, somehow, the App Switcher regains focus. Yesterday, I restored my iPad back to factory specks

Yeah as mentioned it's a bug in the latest ios7. Ttrust me. There is a thread about this on applevis, it's there blog entry on what's new in ios. You can see the comments there and several people have the bug. it's as though the focus is not o on the app switcher but still on the home screen.

Harmony, try this. Instead of holding down the option key, hold the letter U down. another thing is, unplug your drive, boot it up, and instantly as soon as you hear the chime, push the drive into the port. I've found that some times, the drives don't get power right upon the immediate boot
