My Mac mini is about 8 years old but I used it without a monitor for the first 7 years I had it. Way back in the original version, leopard maybe, it had problems running without a monitor. But once I upgraded it to snow leopard, it had no problems. Maybe they re-introduced the problems though.

Yeah, a folder full of mp3 files isn't going to compress much. The xls files will compress a lot but they probably take up very little space. Different compression algorithms work better on different kinds of data. What a tool can do is look at each file and dtermine which algorithm to use

You can do what you asked with the cat command: cat file*.rtf bigfile.rtf I am not sure that will give you a valid rtf file though. Each rtf file is going to have header and footer info and the concatenation of all of them might not be valid. You might be able to use the cat command to
