found the Mac very sluggish during this process. After the drive was encrypted

I agree with you on Apple being not perfect, beta testers aren't perfect as
well. When I tested iOS 8, I didn't think of going into an app like Weather
and tapping the status bar to see if I could see my network. I was more

It sounds like the problem resides on the iDevice. Something there isn’t
allowing proper syncing of your iTunes Match data. I suggest you go into
Settings then either Music or iTunes App Store and turn off your iTunes Match
service. Then connect your iDevice to your Mac with the USB
I have noticed it seems to do that on it's own sometimes that is why you need
to get use to noticing the little icon in the song list for each song.
Personally I just go to the menus and down to I match and see if it is on when
