Simon, It's just always worked for me. I wonder if you're pressing a different area of the button on the ear-buds? I press the centre of the buttons, the area where you'd play/pause/skip. On the iPhone itself, if you press the up or down volume while a call is coming in, then it will silence

Is this the same as Wifi Assist? If it is, I have that option. By the way, on that same area in phone settings is "announce calls". I have it set to never but would like to know what it is as its apparently not the same as being notified when a call comes in which I do hear. From E.T.'
