There were no 7+ available, so I went with the 7 two days ago. I will probably
switch back to the + size iPhone next year. I do love my 7.

Yeah there is a usb to lightening connector for connecting cameras to the
iPhone or IOS devices

This I believe is what they mean
I've never seen a thunderbolt to lightening adaptor on apples site.

Hi Phil, I think you mean usb to lightning. Apple really couldn’t have made
that more confusing if they wanted to.:) Thunderbolt is the high speed (I
think 10 or 20 gigabit) port on the laptops and lightning is the small
connector providing power and connectivity on the bottom of the iPhone or iPad
etc.

Why apple doesn’t include Lightning on the laptops I don’t know and couldn’t
they have used different names so people wouldn’t be confused, who knows.

Tim,

I find one of your comments interesting,

When I press the button on the ear pods I find it kills the phone call I’ve got
coming in or in action,

Is there something you need to do to enable the ear pod button to answer a
call?

Hi,

Yes, if you're using your Apple ear-buds, you can talk just like you do with an
iPhone or iPad. I haven't been able to answer the call by pressing the button
on the ear-bus though like you can when connected to the iPhone.

Memory limitations aside, I’m very very happy with my mid 2015 MacBook pro. It
does very well with virtual environments and performs very well on just about
everything I can throw at it. Upgradable no but I could see it lasting and
being usable for quite a while.

Re: Facetime for Apple users only?

2016-10-18 Thread Tim Kilburn
Simon, It's just always worked for me. I wonder if you're pressing a
different area of the button on the ear-buds? I press the centre of the
buttons, the area where you'd play/pause/skip. On the iPhone itself, if you
press the up or down volume while a call is coming in, then it will silence the
ringer, press the button a second time and the call will be sent directly to
VoiceMail. This also works with the Lock button. So, keeping that in mind, I
choose to press the centre button of the ear-buds as opposed to the up/down
volume buttons.

I will test that later today if I get a chance.

Re: Facetime for Apple users only?

2016-10-18 Thread Scott Granados
To answer E.T.’s question, I believe verizon does have WiFi calling. They
didn’t when I was there but I think it’s been added since.

Go to settings, phone, and look for a WiFi calling option and try enabling it.

automatically add files to iTunes

2016-10-18 Thread Christina C.
Hello,

So, sometimes when I download an audio file my Mac automatically unzips the
file and starts playing it in iTunes and then it is added to my library both on
my computer and on iCloud. I obviously want these files on my Mac but what if I
don’t want them in my iCloud music library? Any ideas? These audio files are
not music and so that just messes with my brain to see them in my music library
on my phone. :) I only need to get these files onto my Mac so that I can put
them on my victor reader stream, or into dropBox.

Thanks,
Christina

Article: Apple on target for October MacBook Release

2016-10-18 Thread Scott Granados
Found this article on redmond pie and it seemed totally on topic to discuss.
Includes expectations about the up coming release of the laptops including the
end of the MacBook air 11, the 12 Inch MacBook taking the place of the 11 inch
air, the continuation and upgrade of the MacBook air 13, and changes to the
MacBook Pro.. The article notes the source has a hit and miss record with
rumors, it does indicate that it matches other reports from more reliable
sources so it seems worth reading. I’d be interested in comments, I’m not sure
I like all the proposed changes.
The changes include an OLED light bar (I assume in place of function
keys), no more mag safe adapter, no more USB, and what’s being included is
USB-C (I do like this) (Thunderbolt 3 (Apple always has to provide a little bit
different but proprietary port that’s a little faster, just because) and the
power button has the fingerprint Censor (I like it).
What do you all think?

Read more here.

1Password Update

2016-10-18 Thread E.T.
The 6.3.4 update has to do with browser extensions. Before, you
would download and install the extension. This was changed. Now, you
would be prompted to compare a code with that shown in the browser. Simpler.

What I encountered prompts a question. Safari showed the code and
the dialog indicated that one was to go to 1Password and compare the
code there. The mystery was. where was that code being displayed in
1Password?

Turned out it was in a popover. Invoking the Window chooser then
took me there and I completed the task.

It was not obvious. So is this actually typical behavior? Is this
where one develops a habit of checking the Window chooser?

Hi, I have used it on my mac just fine till now. I am unable to get it to

strange.

Re: Status of the send space wizard

2016-10-18 Thread David Griffith
I have just opened the Wizard on my Mac running Sierra and at first look all
appears normal. However as I did not do a clean install I did not have to log
in again and was automatically logged into my account. I know that easily the
most difficult part of the wizard is logging in for the first time as there is
no typing echo. From memory I had to try several attempts of pressing tab and
typing in my user name and password before it finally let me in. You can check
a box to prevent having to repeat this though.

Having been logged in I found that by pressing option R I was taken directly to
my remote uploaded files as normal. The other short cuts also appear to work
and I navigated a few remote folders fine. I did not do an extensive test but
all seemed normal as before to me.

Hi,

No, WiFi Assist is used when you have a poor WiFi connection. If the WiFi
connection is poor, then the iPhone will automatically switch over to LTE or
whatever data you have to give you the fastest connection. Many people have
turned it off as they found that the process was making their data levels go
through the roof.

Hi,

Normally, when a call comes in, FaceTime will become the front most app. So,
you can use VO-right then VO-left once each and the Accept button will be
there. VO-space on this button and the call is on speaker phone through your
Mac. If you prefer, you can hit the tab-key a couple of times and the Accept
button should gain focus, after which you can simply hit the space-bar to
answer the call.

Oh ok yes. I need to work with that as I do not intercept calls often and when

How best to handle that? Thanks. This would be good to know.

Hi,

If you've set up your Continuity services where you can answer iPhone calls on

2016-10-18 Thread Brandt Steenkamp
Hi there folks,

A friend of mine asked if there were any way to extract text from QDF documents
on the Mac, I actually did not know, so looked at Automator and built a
workflow that does exactly that, saved it as an app, and now don't know if my
friend can use my workflow instead of having to build his own.

If someone can let me know, both my buddy and I would be very grateful.

Warm regards,

Brandt Steenkamp

Re: alternative free conversion tool for kindle for use with calibre

2016-10-18 Thread E.T.
Just an update. This plugin for Calibre version 2.70 does work
nicely once set up. True its a difficult process but once its done,
Calibre does a nice job of removing the DRM then doing the conversion.

If I find any more Kindle books I do not know I want badly, I may
take a stab at a write up. (smiles)

Re: Article: Apple on target for October MacBook Release

2016-10-18 Thread E.T.
Interesting developments to be. I know nothing about USB C but I
usually go with the flow and so expect it probably will be an easy
enough change to adapt to.

The touch bar I find interesting too. We need someone to beta test
hardware! Oh right. NDA. So much for that.

My mid 2012 MBP still seems healthy whereas my bank account is not
so a new Mac is not on my radar. A new iPhone has a better chance.

air, the continuation and upgrade of the MacBook air 13, and changes to the
MacBook Pro..

Attention Mark Taylor

2016-10-18 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Hey Mark, would you please write me off list? I wrote you a very very sad
private message, but want to be absolutely 100% sure that you see it, as it's
kind of urgent. Absolutely no one on list has done anything wrong. This has
nothing at all to do with someone's conduct or the like, I swear to God.

Actually quite the contrary. It's very very very sad news, but for now on list,
until I get permission to say more, that's all I'm gonna say here publicly for
now.

Chris.
