Re: Shortcut for Sound Preferences and Settings?

2013-05-23 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

Yes. There is a shortcut. Depending on how you have the Function keys set up
on your Mac, pressing FN, option F11 or F12 will take you directly into sound
preferences. You might not have to add in the FN key, if you have your
function keys set up to act as hardware keys. You would just press option F11
or F12.

Where can I find the Kindle App Gestures Guide

2013-05-23 Thread Mike Busboom
Hi.

I know that there is a free Kindle book available that describes how to use the
Kindle app on the iPhone for reading books.

Unfortunately, the book is not available in the Austrian store. While I was
able to locate it in the American store, I was unable to purchase it from
there. Does anyone know if there is any other way to download the guide? I
believe that it is called Kindle for iOS Accessibility Gestures - Quick
Reference Guide.

Thanks in advance,

Re: Printing from Priview

2013-05-23 Thread Esther
Hi Max, Eric, and Others,

To print only odd or even pages of a document viewed in Preview, after
you use Command-p to bring up the print dialog window you need to
access the paper handling options. Navigate past the area where you
specify the page range, the paper size, and the page orientation to
the pop up button for Preview and use VO-Space to change this to
Paper Handling. Now you'll be able to access options for Pages to
Print and Page Order. Navigate to the pop up menu button for All
pages and change this to Odd Only or Even Only. You can also
override the automatic page order settings for your printer here, and
command them to be printed in either forward or reverse order.

In general, you should expect that anything you reasonably want to do
(like printing only odd or only even pages), should be a feature of
the default applications on the Mac. While Adobe Reader can be used
with VoiceOver on the Mac, you're using the text-to-speech feature to
read through pages, there's a maximum voice rate, and it's not set
where you might reasonably expect to control the setting. For a long
time I thought Adobe Reader was not accessible. It simply has an
extremely unintuitive interface, meaning that if I ever have to go
back and use it, even having previously explored it in detail, I would
search in the list archives for my posted instructions rather than try
to rely on my memory on how it should work. Friends don't send
friends to use Adobe Reader with VoiceOver if it can be avoided
*smile*.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Audible, New Victor Reader Stream and the Mac?

2013-05-23 Thread Mike Busboom
Hello everyone,

For many years, I have enjoyed listening to Audible content on my Victor reader
Stream. Downloading books from the Audible site has never been a problem and I
don't anticipate that it ever will be.

An area where I am having problems, however, is that of downloading the
activation key from the Audible Support Center for the New Victor Reader
Stream. According to the Humanware mail that I received, we are supposed to
activate our Streams through Audible's program manager software. Since this
software runs under Windows, I am wondering how this task is accomplished on
the Mac.

Any help would be truly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Nice and accessible and easy. To speak frankly, the very issue you raise in

I did: because, you see, I have noticed severle people saying on the Victor

Re: Audible, New Victor Reader Stream and the Mac?

2013-05-23 Thread Mike Busboom
Hello Ray,

I do have the Audible app on my iPhone, but for reasons I won't go into now, I
prefer reading audio content on other devices. I use my iPhone all the time
for reading newspapers, RSS feeds and ebooks, but there are just times when I
prefer using the Stream. Although I hate to do it, I will try to run VMWare
Fusion and install the Audible download manager.

Take care, and thanks for your input,

Mike

All:
I use Skype every day.
This is a proprietary program for a specific work online environment.
Thank you for the info on Objective-C. I will contact the developer about it.

Thank you very much all for your help. I am sure I will have many more
questions as the adventure continues.

Mactubes is not, to my knowledge, on the App Store, and it is free. Just google
mactubes download and it should come right up. It has no auto-update
mechanism, so you'll have to check every so often to see if a new version has
come out, but aside from that it works well. In fact, it is the best Youtube
player I've ever used, and it even lets you download videos to your hard drive.

Re: Printing from Priview

2013-05-23 Thread Agent086b
Thanks for all the help. I have resolved the problem with my sited wife's help.
The option I really wanted was duplex printing. Vo will not read where this
option was so I thought it was not there. This made me think about printing odd
and even pages back to back on one sheet. Because I could not make it work I
asked my wife to come and take a look. Marvellous what site does!
She saw an option for duplex and of course this is was exactly what I wanted in
the first place.

Re: Tips on Working with Keynote to Create PowerPoint Presentations

Hi,

Short answer is yes. As long as you don't use fancy media or other
transitions that PPT cannot deal with, you should be fine. Just make sure to
save it as a PowerPoint document after you're done. Actually, I usually save
it as both so I can more easily get at the original Keynote presentation if I
need to make changes and such.

Re: Tips on Working with Keynote to Create PowerPoint Presentations

2013-05-23 Thread Kevin Shaw
You can also save the presentation as a PDF. I forget the name of the PC open
source program that plays PDFs as slide shows. I think it's Skim, like the Mac
one, but someone can correct me.

I ended up having to do this for a presentation where my display adapter
wouldn't work with the PC system, so I exported as a PDF and had to use basic
transitions.

Let us know how it goes.

Deleting photos from the camera roll on iPhone 5 once they have been transferred to an album.

2013-05-23 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
I have separated my camera roll pictures into albums, for posting on Facebook.
However, Facebook is still showing duplicates which are stored in the camera
roll. However, when I try to delete them from the camera roll, it says that my
only option is to delete them from everywhere, including my albums.

How do I empty my camera roll, while keeping the picture it copies in the
albums where they are intended to be?

Re: Printing from Priview

2013-05-23 Thread Agent086b
Thanks, as I say Vo does not read that duplex option. I would not have found it
except for my sited wife.
Thanks again.
Max.

 Hi Max,

In the printer dialog window, you won't be shown settings options unless they
apply to a printer you have selected. For example, I won't get a check box
for duplex printing unless I first select a printer that supports 2-sided
printing. This is a general Mac convention that until you make selections
that indicate the action you wish to perform, you won't be shown extraneous
options to navigate through. You should expect to find every option that
you'd normally use in printing from your Windows system within the printer
dialog window for the Mac, and that includes duplex printing.

The print dialog window is often used to save information to a PDF file
without sending the output to a printer. You can print information from most
applications this way. For example, one frequently used option is printing a
copy of a web transaction to save as a receipt or record of actions. If you
use Command+P, then navigate to the PDF menu button in the printer dialog
window, you'll find an option for Save PDF to Web Receipts folder, as well
as other options that don't explicitly require printing -- such as sending
 the document as a FAX.

If you don't find the options for controlling page output when you use
Command+P, navigate to the Expanding Print Dialog check box and VO-Space.
From Preview, as I described in an earlier post, you can set additional
options in the print dialog window if you navigate past the areas for setting
number of copies, page numbers, paper size, and orientation, to the Preview
pop up menu button, then VO-Space and set this to your selection (e.g.,
Layout, Paper Handling, Paper Feed, Cover Page, etc.) Then view the
 options for your selected category.

 HTH. Cheers,

 Esther

Re: extracting contents of zipped files on the mac

2013-05-23 Thread Lisette Wesseling
I have had some zip files not opening on the mac. No idea why. It's only been
one or two out of the many I've tried, but I have seen what the original poster
reported. I had to unzip it in Windows. NO idea why some zip files don't open
properly.

I did one yesterday. I put my cursor on top of the file name that had the.zip
extension, impressed commando. When I press down arrow, my unzipped files
were there it took about two seconds. It's a lot easier than unzippering
 them in Windows.

It does it automatically, leaving you with the original zip file and a
folder containing the zip file's contents. If you have file extensions
disabled you may hear the file and folder, which will have the same name,
and think you have only copied the zip file. One, though, is the unzipped
 folder.

Hi folks. When I try to open a zip file on my mac, it seems to only want to
make another copy of the file. How do I tell the archive utility to extract
 the file? Thanks
