No smoke at all except the first few minutes it initially started. Not
enough to cause any damage though. Will probably removed the thing

Leave the car alone for a few minutes while the air bubbles
rise out of the head
How do you lock it in the open position? Boil it until
it opens and put an object in between the plate and
openning? I don't want to do anything unwise to leave
something loose and get caught up somewhere.

If you are going to do the center drive shaft mount, be aware that you
have
to separate the two halfs of the drive shaft to do so. You must
carefully
mark the two pieces so that they go back together so that you maintain
the
balance of the driveshaft assembly.
See what happens if you don't:

Brute force and brass shell casings, in my case.
