At 300 yards you'd really be just lobbing bullets toward the
target in a huge arc.

barrel of the rifle, couldn't you just push it back, or out the front
(depending on the rifle) with a cleaning rod? Then the only risk is
remembering to verify that the barrel is clear before loading the next
round (?).

A google search shows they run very close to the speed of sound, 1000fps or
more...

from the 1800s. For those little critters you can use one of those 1000
or 1200fps air rifles. The little rats don't make any noise if you don't
hit them right so it's a lot easier to get another

younger son picks off squirrels out at
the lake because my mother does not want them in the attic etc. It is too
close in to town and we are not legally
permitted to discharge firearms so we keep it pretty quiet.

CBs are for short range. Should be ok for 25 yd or so. I used them
to shoot pests in the barn. They won't put holes through
things. Anything I ever shot at with a CB was dead. BB caps are a

Yeah thought of that but then you have to go into the neighbors garden
to get the evidence without being seen and if that works all it takes is

I'd start keeping rabbits for meat. You can easily keep rabbits in a
small yard and grow most of their food.
They are also generally very quiet. (Unlike birds.) They only
scream if something's attacking them.

I currently drive home to eat lunch, and I would stop doing that on a
daily basis. Also, in our mild southern winter I
bike to work (6 blocks), kids walk to school (private, no bus), 5 blocks, walk
to shop, 3 blocks. Turn my south yard into an algae farm and make BioD out of
the oil. Grow lots of veggies, which will cost a fortune because of trucking.
