I wonder how old the rest of the plumbing is? Those galvanized fittings
look like new (at least on the outside). We find that the current crop
of galvanized fittings that come from the far east don't last long on
our setup out at the lake.

My mechanic brother in law, once worked at a shop where they built a
bomb for fun.
They had a derelict Hyundai Pony and installed a 455 Pontiac engine in
it. The engine sat about where the firewall once was and the front seats
had been removed and the driver sat in the back seat.

Catalytic converters run very hot. I would not think that covering it
would be a good idea unless the cover is screen or louvers etc to
provide a means of dissipating heat.
