Nice! I'll bet that broken bolt comes out easy. I'd try cutting a slot with a Dremel tool, then try removing with a regular screw driver. If you can get the seals (I was able to about ten years ago) I'd do the side and bottom plate now. If the tank screen is plugged, you can reverse the lines in the engine bay and bypass the screen, but then your filters may plug up pretty quickly and you'll run out of fuel early, with about a quarter of a tank left. Well the good news is it only takes about 30 minutes to get the engine out, and another hour or two to split the engine block and see what's going on. I'm trying to remember what's at the other end of that push rod and I'm drawing a blank. Either the cup at the outer end is bad, or something is loose. I hope the bolts aren't pulling out of the head, been there done that, but about 30 years ago. Has the cost of the materials gone up that much? A few years ago I paid $12k for a very steep roof, architectural shingles, white so they are Energy Star, with full water and ice damn sheild on entire roof, and extra strapping for protection against hurricanes. Basically I paid for every extra I could except a metal roof. My house is two story, about 2400 square feet, complex roof. Other possibility: turbo waste gate failed, and you do indeed have an over boost condition, and your Pistons will MELT. Need to get a boost gauge to test that theory. Last, the over boost solenoid is faulty, and shutting off signal to ALDA when it shouldn't. Probably totalled by the INSCO, now a salvage title, owner dumped it. Sad. Minor fender bender to my '95 124 resulted in total, salvage title. Damage to front left fender, front bumper, signal light. My dad had a '48 Hudson that he sold a few years ago. North Dakota car, not a bit of rust, totally original. Ran just fine, it was his summer cruiser for a few years. When he was ready to sell, I tried to convince him to give BaT a try, sent him an auction where a similar car sold for over $15k. He was not keen on that, wanted to meet the buyer face to face to close the deal, so he sold it on Craigslist. I think he got about $7k for it, new owner was some young gear head that was really into big old cars, had a little collection going. I would not be surprised if this guy enjoyed it for a bit then flipped it for a lot more than he paid. Pulling a head is no fun of you're solo, BTDT, still have the head in storage. Summer temps in Charleston SC, probably was close to heat stroke by the time I was done. I did get the head, injectors, and injection pump. Probably going to install that head on the engine from Wilton's sedan someday. I think Pierre has an opinion on that, you can probably guess. His advice was too make sure you got the proper manifold o-rings for the GM compressor, they have some metal in them. I think you can get standard GM compressor and flip the rear cap around to make the oil flow correct for the upside down install in the Benz, save a few bennies? There is some trick to using those old compressors. A few weeks ago, I was following a Porch Boxster. Older grey haired couple, top down. Speed limit was 40, I was probably going about 45 and coming up on them from behind. The light turned yellow, I stepped on the gas, he stepped on his brakes. He stopped midway through the intersection, blocking the cross traffic. I transitioned to braking as fast as I could, had to hit the shoulder to avoid rear ending the Boxster. Anti-Lock brake system got a good work out. Ended up almost next to him. I still don't understand why he decided to try to stop for the yellow light. He decided to back up to let cross traffic flow, almost backed into me. Sounds about right. Check the steering idler arm bushing for play. Check steering damper too. Unfortunately the steering gear box may be the culprit, which looks like a real pain to rebuild that.
