Weldments and threaded fasteners (nuts) were present in the cars since the
early 1960s. My 1962 300SE had the nuts in place with rubber plugs in them on
the floor and “B” pillar. Belts were optional until the early 60s, I think.
Certainly by 1968 they were standard. Someone may have removed yours.

Love the 8 track in the dash. At least it appears to be an 8 track player. Goes
right along with that funky upholstery.

On a 1960 Falcon you can take the head off in 20 minutes.
Slightly longer to put it back on. I know, I've done it, to remove
the accelerator pump nozzle screw that fell out and got sucked
in and embedded in a piston. I removed the screw and put it back
together. Didn't even use any new gaskets. (I did need a new
screw, the pounding the piston gave it against the iron head
flattened it.)

The beauties of a pre-smog pushrod inline 6.

Most 65s were a cream color, and many of those had red interiors. I
liked the medium (battleship) gray (DB186) on my 62 (with red interior)
My 66 is black and tan. (yes that has several other connotations)

Mercedes Blue always looks appropriate on a 110/111 (DB335). What
model is this 65? 190c, 190Dc, 220Sb? 220b?

Exterior colors: http://www.heckflosse.nl/excol4.htm

Interior colors: http://www.heckflosse.nl/incol4.htm 1088 is the
typical red MB Tex.

I never kiss and tell... ;)

It's a bit higher than I want for a project car, but it's a really good set
of bones... so "worth it".
Still.. it will have to wait for attention... there are other cars ahead of
it in the "project warehouse"

Taking suggestions on color combinations... anyone?

Re: [MBZ] 1965 Finny find

2018-05-29 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Sorry, I'm a mechanical genius, but a computer idiot... I was successful
doing a direct email to Dan with pics.. So, I could make that work..

Did a hands on survey of the car yesterday. After a good look at the car, I
only find the front carb missing, the carb cover portion of the air
breather, and the Right tail light present with lens broken. Doors all
close like bank vaults [need latches oiled ASAP]

Paint is done to chalk by AZ sun.. Interior is intact and unmolested but
sun toasted. And, more importantly, ZERO rat or mouse. Floor pans and
rockers are rust free. in fact, the only rust I could find was in the
trunk, behind the rear wheels in the spare tire well on the Right, and at
the bottom of the trunk well on the Left... Very repairable.

Body is absolutely straight, good solid sheet metal, ALL the glass is
original and clear, no chips or cracks... window rubber is sun toasted.

Now, I have to decide what to do with it... It's a perfect candidate for a
complete body, chassis, interior restoration. Ohh... almost forgot, engine
turns over freely, plugs out. so good start for a running car.. In fact. if
I had a set of carbs and a jerry can of fuel, I'm betting I could start and
drive it on the trailer.[after mounting a set of tires, just happen to have
a "spare set" ;)) ]

Car comes with two sets of keys and original documents and owners manual.
Send a direct email and I'll push some pics over to you, if you like.

Grant...
[Just what I need, another project.. ha]

Re: [MBZ] 1965 Finny find

2018-05-28 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
Too much project.

I just don’t have the resources or space to deal with something that’s as far
along as this car. I need a driver quality car that’s intact but needs minor
stuff and/or freshening.

That and I don’t do bodywork, so the minute I have to send something out the
s start to get out of control.

Re: [MBZ] 1965 Finny find

2018-05-28 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Bob,
I'm going to look at the 65 Finny late this morning. I have a few pics
already. Looks like a solid and unmolested Finny. The only parts I see
missing are the hubcaps and the air breather. Some surface rust on the
trunk lid and rear fenders where is likely got direct Arizona sun in the
carport it was setting in, Engine bay is complete and unmolested, Interior
is "Arizona dry".. but all there. Steering wheel is original, but has some
cracks [I've seen much worse, it's actually not bad]

More info after I put hands on, if you are interested. I truly do not need
"another project".. but it's to solid and intact to not go look at it.
Engine turns over, so not locked up.. Tires are toast.

Grant...

yeah, I drove a 47 shovey 1.5 ton truck with its 4th and 5th engines
early on. First in the fields long before a driver's license, then on
the road later. When I got the DL, Then I drove it a lot and the F500
with 14' refer box a few times, including when it blew out a spark
plug. The 65 impala (283) with unsynchro first gear was a rocket
compared to the old trucks.

I have been there too. My father was a fan of smaller engines and manual
transmissions. I learned to drive on a full size pickup with an inline 6
and 3 on the tree.
Passing on 2 lane highways meant planning ahead. Fortunately, the
highway that I drove most often was something I knew well so I knew
where the potential passing areas were.
I don't consider my 115 300D a real dog in city traffic and it will
cruise down the highway at a pretty good pace, but it was truly not
built for passing on 2 lane highways.

Mine had the 4.3l v6. Not bad even with the 4wd. Kind of wish I had kept it

Re: [MBZ] The Finny for Poos is still available

2018-01-10 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I commuted various 240Ds for several years and never really had an issue. Once
in awhile somebody would toot the horn but not often, they just deal with it.
You won't get "driven over", they don't want to get their shiny SUV dirty...

Re: [MBZ] The Finny for Poos is still available

2018-01-10 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
It is not a vergasser. It will go up and down hills just fine. It is a
diesel. It has torque. They are tons of fun to drive! No other car
has ever been as much fun to drive as a 110/111. They have similar
acceleration times to a 240D automatic. If they are tweaked to 65 HP,
then they accelerate a lot faster.

OK Don via Mercedes

I expect that it's geared such that it will be fine in town. Getting
on the
freeway and keeping speed up hills might be an issue, but then there
are no

hills in FL ???

Didn't the Luscombe have a habit of collapsing the landing gear if you landed a

Because the Luscombe 8E is mildly aerobatic! Actually, you have "low and
slow" for fun scenic touring (Luscombe, Breezy), enjoying the evening,
etc., there is "high and fast" (Tailwind W10) for getting somewhere in a
hurry or racing, and there is the abililty to haul a load (Cessna 182).
Just like cars, no one aircraft fits all missions.

Re: [MBZ] The Finny for Poos is still available

2018-01-09 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
I don’t have the time, resources or space to do something that major. Also, as
stated previously, I’m a purist. It does nothing for me to repower a vintage
car. I’ll leave that to the hotrodders.

Ask Lt. Don why one of his airplane buddies would want to fly a Luscombe.

Just save the original so it could be put back in and find a bigger,
better motor! Not suggesting a SBC, but just a 3 liter diesel. Even
normally aspirated, it would have to be an improvement.
