Hello Andre,

Does the Iriver 320 have an LCD display? Are there dedicated buttons for
going to next/prev track/albam?

Hi Kiran

I wouldn't change my Iriver h320 for anything! Not only is it reasonably
accessible, but the recording quality is the best I have heard from any
player of its size.

Another exciting development is that the folks at rockbox.org is working on
alternative firmware that may actually give the player a speech interface.
I believe this is not possible with flash-based players.

I am also on the lookout for a hard drive based mp3 player. In addition to

2005-12-08 Thread André van Deventer
Hi Kiran

It has a rather big display because you can also view photo's on it.

It has a play, stop, record, up and down buttons for the volume control and
left and right buttons to go to different tracks. And of cause also a menu
button which goes up, down, left, right and can be pressed.

What I also like is that it actually has a line-out socket also.

2005-12-08 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello there.
I own and use a creative jukebox the original player. I am able to use
most functions of the player but the software that comes with it is
horible. I am an experienced jaws user and I don't mind fedling around
with inaccessible staff but this was a lot more problematic.
I think the same happens with the zen line of units. You can't see them
as another drive in windows explorer so that you can copy folders to it.

I would have bought a zen instantly if it wasn't for the software
interface. Now I will get the iriver h340 instead.

Okay, for some take a look here.
http://www.arboretum.com/

You'll find flangers, frequency shifters, pitch shifters, pass
filters, bass boosters, echo chambers, reverb units the works. I
know they're accessible through my PC, I use them with Sound Forge
and Adobe Audition. When i find accessible audio editing software
for my Mac Mini, I'll be purchasing the Mac versions and giving them
a work-out to see what I can make of them.

 Hi Kiran

I wouldn't change my Iriver h320 for anything! Not only is it reasonably
accessible, but the recording quality is the best I have heard from any
 player of its size.

Another exciting development is that the folks at rockbox.org is working
 on
alternative firmware that may actually give the player a speech interface.
I believe this is not possible with flash-based players.

haven't looked back! from reviews and articles i've read all over the net
over the months, iRiver's players seem to be about as reliable as you can
get! another reason why i bought one. very accessible, ability to play .ogg
files, has a line out, behaves like an external hard drive via usb 2.0, no
nasty, fancy inaccessible software to fiddle with either! ... that's the
one i have by the way, i've not used the h340. but if past experience is
anything to go by with iRiver, you've chosen well.

recordings of various synths on it and it plays them along with the buttons

A friend had that Creative hard drive based mp3 player. I got to use it for
a short while but couldn't select songs to play without sighted
 assistance.
Not sure if Creative has more than one range of hard drive players. It was
 a
20 GB model but I can't remember the exact model number.

 Hello there.
I own and use a creative jukebox the original player. I am able to
 use
 most
functions of the player but the software that comes with it is
 horible. I
 am
an experienced jaws user and I don't mind fedling around with
inaccessible staff but this was a lot more problematic. I think the
same happens with the zen line of units. You can't see them as
another drive in windows explorer so that you can copy folders to it.

I would have bought a zen instantly if it wasn't for the software
 interface.
Now I will get the iriver h340 instead.

 Nektarios.

Also be aware that when installing these plug-ins you will have to
enter your serial number manually that is to say you'll have to write
it down first and enter it from your written soruce rather than say
pasting it from notepad or whatever, this installation seems to take
up all the screen and other programmes don't seem to display corectly
or aren't fully able to be viewed with a screen Reader so keep that in mind.

A theory About the Windows Media Stream/Download Problem

2005-12-08 Thread Bruce Toews
I have a theory, as yet untested, about the problem some of us are having
with known Windows Media streams coming up as download dialogs. Could this
be a bug with Winamp? Could it be that, if you have the restore file
types at start up option checked, Winamp will steal more than just the
file associations you've selected away from Windows Media and, while not
assigning them to itself, leave themin limbo?

Winamp and DirectX accessible?

2005-12-08 Thread Brent Harding
What is accessible to let you use DirectX with Winamp? I think I tried one,
and it doesn't really work. I found some board online that had a limit
plugin for Directx that is supposed to work with winamp with something
called Gmixon DirectX plugin Adapter Module. Gmixon absolutely doesn't work
with jaws at all. It won't even autolabel graphics. What else can work with
Jaws so I can try this guy's presets to see what they sound like? I may need
to change the presets so the preemphasis, if this plugin has it, is off. I
just don't know how people listen to that as I turned it on in Sound
Solution thinking it was a trebble boost, but it sounds bad. I don't know
why you would use preemphasis for webcasting or whatever, thought it did
something for FM.

Hi list,

I had not been to the Audible.com website for a short time as I had some
books saved on my hard drive. Today I went online to download a book and
was not even able to get to my library. I have learned how to find a book
in my library, but, can anyone tell me how to download a book once you find
it. For example, where do you select the format; and where do you go to
download. Any help would really be appreciated Thanks.

RE: audible.com

2005-12-08 Thread Sarah Heesen
Yeah, they just changed it this week. You still download from your library,
only there aren't 'archived programs or 'heard programs' links. Your titles
are all there on the library page. Mark the checkboxes next to the titles
of everything you want to download. The download link is down toward the
bottom of the page, and it will download all the titles you've checked at
once. Also, be sure to check the combo boxes at the end of all the links
related to each book. These are the audio-format boxes -- and the format is
automatically set at the largest format.

Hope it works. ... and Oh, yeah! The download window is Java, and I still
can't get that to work. Hope you have better luck.

I don't know where you heard that, as they do have tech support. They have a

well. Whoever made those reviews was iether dumb enough not to look in the

Rio support is ok, also.

Re: Hard Disk-based MP3 Player

2005-12-08 Thread Tyler Wood
Well, I liked the software, but why have software when you can just use it
as a removable disk? That is what mine is. I've used the software and it has
some issues (the add to player button is announced as an = button). I've
made playlists also. The flash players, at least to me, seem better. I think
the reason my rio was shot was because of the harddrive interface. It has
moving parts, in other words.

 I
 am
an experienced jaws user and I don't mind fedling around with
 inaccessible
staff but this was a lot more problematic.
I think the same happens with the zen line of units. You can't see them
 as
another drive in windows explorer so that you can copy folders to it.

I would have bought a zen instantly if it wasn't for the software
 interface.
Now I will get the iriver h340 instead.

Hi Muchos!

May be it is because you security option or your privacy options are higher.

Try this:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Press Alt + T, for Tools menu.
3. Press O, for Internet Options.
4. You will land on a different tab pages. Press control + Tab key until
you hear, Privacy tab.
5. Once you are there, try to adjust your privacy option to lower. At least

40%. You can change the amount by using left arrow to lower the privacy and

right arrow to higher the privacy.
6. If you are using Internet Explorer6, try to turning off the pop up check
box. Just press your tab key until the pop up check box is announce by
JAWS. Pressing your space bar to active and inactive this check box.
7. Once you are done, press control + tab key again to the Content tab.
8. When you are in the content tab, press Alt + S, to clear your SSL option.
9. when you are done, tab it until you hear the Ok button. press your space

bar to activate the button.
10. Refresh your IE. Just press F5 to refresh.

Sometimes, Internet Explorer needs a Java scripts for enabling and to show
the content of the page. But, if still your page does not work, I suggested

to re-install your Internet Explorer. If you don't know how to do it,
please let me know and I will assist you.

 Hi list,

I had not been to the Audible.com website for a short time as I had some
books saved on my hard drive. Today I went online to download a book and
was not even able to get to my library. I have learned how to find a book
in my library, but, can anyone tell me how to download a book once you
 find
it. For example, where do you select the format; and where do you go to
download. Any help would really be appreciated Thanks.

I don't know where you heard that, as they do have tech support. They have
a
website, so therefore they have support. They have a telephone number as
well. Whoever made those reviews was iether dumb enough not to look in the
instruction manual or just didn't pay attention when going through the

Re: Flash-based MP3 Player

2005-12-08 Thread Tyler Wood
Ok. I'll admit there support is minimal. I may well e-mail them and tell
them about this. I once had a dog chew my USB cable. I e-mailed them and
asked them where/if i could buy another. They said I could buy another one,
but didn't give me the specks. I ended up going to a hardware store (future
shop) and have them replace it for me.

Tyler

PS: Support is what makes a great product. Since I don't have any problems
with this one yet, its not a concern for me yet. But when something goes
wrong and I get no help, I will defenetely be upset. Rio support, once
again, is acceptional and I enjoyed the nitress.

I was just there a few minutes ago. Now you choose a period of time to
display when you made a purchase. There is a combo box in each section to
choose the format size. (the default is 4) check the book you wish to
download then do a search on download and you will find a link that says
download selected item this will start your download.

Ah, so they sort of made it more difficult? I would have to go through my
entire list of previous books to find new ones I haven't downloaded? That
seems yucky. Is the audible manager different now? I know Larry did a demo
of something that sounded different than I used to use and then transferred
stuff to the book port.

I don't think this is the right list to answer you on. Go to the
blind audible listeners list on Yahoogroups and ask. You're right,
they have changed the site to something totally new, so knowing the
old site and ways of doing things won't do you any good. It's not
really hard to learn, it's just different.

using yahoo messenger with jfw

2005-12-08 Thread André van Deventer
Hi all

Is it possible to use yahoo messenger with JFW 6.2?

I have a friend with whom I correspond regularly. Her connection is so slow
that Skype does not seem to function properly. She seems to be able to use
yahoo messenger though.

However, I find that this messenger is not the easiest to use with speech.
E.g. the menu bars do not seem to work correctly in Jaws.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
