RE: Winamp start pause and stop

2017-08-12 Thread Dean Martineau
I found it by going into Winamp Preferences with Ctrl+P, then pressing P
three times for Plug-ins, arrowing twice down to Output, Tabbing twice to
the list of plug-ins. The first one on my list is NullSoft Direct Sound
Output. Tab to and activate the Configure Button.

This opens a multi-page dialog with five tabs. The middle one is the Fading
tab. The fourth press of Tab in that page takes you to a list of five
situations where fading is possible, So arrow to the scenario you want to
change and tab through and alter the status of check boxes you want to
change.

I hope that gets you there.

Dean

Every time I have installed Winamp, it wants to default to fading in and out

when a file starts, stops, and pause/restart. I would like to make it start

and stop abruptly. I think it has to do with a plug-in. Can anyone explain

what I should do to achieve this action? Thank you very much.

Hi Robert,
so you don't have a general purpose, or media library group of plug ins?

On two machines here, there are six groups of plug ins.
I don't know how to help in this case.

Hope you get things sorted out.

Re: Winamp question

2017-07-30 Thread Chris Skarstad

Hi

Under dsp/effect, there should be a section called media library. I
would hesitate to delete or remove any of these plugins unless you're
absolutely sure you want to get rid of them. The absolutely safest
thing to do is to hit alt plus l and hide the media library window from
appearing. If you really want to get rid of the plugins though, the
safest one looks like it might be one called Nullsoft library, and
another one called Online services. But like I say i haven't removed
these, so approach with caution. I have no idea if winamp requires
these plugins to function. That's why I've just hidden the media
library window. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hi Joe,
Well, I found it. Apparently, alt-3 was set as a global hot key to read
Window 3. So, in the Winamp set file, I undefined that hot key, and now
my alt-3 for reading my file info is restored.
Your suggestion of using the bypass key gave me the clue to find the problem
and solve it.

Thanks again and have a good weekend.

RE: winamp playlist help

2016-05-09 Thread Barry Chapman
Hi Hank,

There are two things you can do.

1. Configure Winamp to place Enqueue & Play in Winamp in the file menu of
Windows Explorer to add a selected file after the currently playing file. To
do this, open the Winamp preferences and in the Windows Shell File
Association Options, select Add 'Enqueue & Play' to Winamp's associated file
types, and Insert enqueued files after the currently playing file. There is
a situation where Windows prevents this item appearing in Windows Explorer
in favour of Windows Media Player. There is a way around this which I can
describe later if necessary.

2. Probably the easiest way of achieving what you want is to let Winamp add
the song to the end of the list then do the following. Move to the song you
want your newly added song to appear after then press j and search for the
newly added song. Once you have found it, tab to an option for Move after
current.

Re: Winamp?

2016-04-11 Thread Chris Skarstad

Only place I know to get it these days is
http://www.ninite.com
The web page has a bunch of different check boxes for different
programs, Winamp is oneof them. So check the box for that, and then
press the space bar on the "get installer" button. the next page that
comes up lets you download the installer. The great thing about Ninite
is that you can check multiple boxes at once, so you can build an
installer with all your favorite programs. If you're getting a new pc
you can just run it, and it'll install all the programs, one after
another. Also, you can keep an installer around, and it'll install the
latest version of the program every time a new one comes out. These
installers run in the background so there's no next buttons to press, or
license agreements to answer yes to. Whoever thought of Ninite deserves
a metal.

RE: Winamp SQ crosfader

2015-08-12 Thread Walter Ramage
Hi. Hmm, I don't know how to do that. I think my version must be a
different version from Dennis's version as I can't find the options he
mentions; i.e. In Presets there is no radio preset just an edit box and an
import button and all that does is give me a list of two file types. I
guess it is going to take a few weeks or more to play around withit. and if
all else fails I can always set everything to default and start again.

Once you get it set the way you want, be sure to save the .ini file so if
you have to reinstall again, your settings won't be lost. I've got a file a
good buddy who's a broadcaster gave me, and multiple copies of it.

Can VLC get you from point A to Point B in a file? That's one of the
things I loved (still love) about Winamp (and I'm not talking just about
hitting the arrow key and finding it manually) with Winamp, you can
actually go to a certain spot in a file; this comes in handy...let's say
you've been listening to a long program (and you can't finish right then and
there) Winamp has the ability to let you see where you are in the file; then
you can come right back to it the next time you want to listen to that
particular show!

Re: Winamp is making me mad

2015-05-27 Thread Dane Trethowan
As Peter said earlier, use what you want but bare in mind if you do and
you get yourself into a pickle with Winamp then don't expect too much
support for a product that's no longer being developed.

I bought a Winamp Pro licence and I was very glad I did but that was
quite some time ago.

I think my main annoyance about Winamp is not the software itself -
though it has its problems - but the absolute twaddle talked about
Winamp, its the only solution for blind people, we need to sign a
partition to pressure AOL into continued development, there's no
accessible alternative and so it went on.

I liked Winamp because it was versatile however the software started
big, bloated and damn unreliable in the last few years I used it, so
much so that I had to look for an alternative player, I very much liked
Windows media Player but unfortunately WMP wouldn't play a lot of
formats that I took for granted when using Winamp, the next choice then
for me was VLC.

As for VLC not handling Bookmarks? Well again, more piffle.

I'm not sure if this is a jaws problem but it has happened in both jaws 14
and 15. When I have the winamp window open and a file is playing I can go
to another window and for no reason I have been able to figure out the focus

goes back to winamp. I was in a game and went to take my turn only to find

that somehow I was back in the winamp window.

Subject: winamp snatching focus

I'm not sure if this is a jaws problem but it has happened in both jaws 14
and 15. When I have the winamp window open and a file is playing I can go
to another window and for no reason I have been able to figure out the focus

goes back to winamp. I was in a game and went to take my turn only to find

that somehow I was back in the winamp window.

If we can't look at ourselves, and ask, why? then where does the learning
start?

Hi Michael,

I don't really know about not playing all the songs, but there is a setting
in Winamp to stop after each song.

Regarding not playing the songs in order, there is a shuffle mode which is
toggled on and off by pressing the letter s.

Re: WinAmp / Windows Media.

Hi Colin,

Firstly, .m3u is more generic and will generally open the media player you have
as the default for opening .mp3 files. This can be
Winamp, Windows Media Player or something else. .pls is more specifically for
Winamp and the equivalent for Windows Media Player is
.asx. Also, .ram is for RealPlayer and .qtl is for the QuickTime player. It
should be noted however, that if you select all file
types in Winamp, it will take over .asx.

The format for file names in a .asx file is the same as for a .m3u file.

Thanks,

Greetings,

Please can anybody tell me if there is a format for Media Player like
WinAmp, where the playlist can be given as a file with a specific extension
which if I remember rightly is something like .m3u or .pls or . . .

I need to send .mp3 files out as .zip archives, which when extracted and
played in Media Player, play track-by-track-by-track enabling a person to
skip but also the files must play in WinAmp, so I need include a .m3u file.

also, would I simply put the files into the playlist file like for WinAmp,
for example:

track-01.mp3
track-02.mp3
. . .

Thanks.

assuming the files are in the same location press shift L winamp will prompt
you to open folder find
the folder and press enter on it. The folder will play. Alternately if your
playlist editor window
is open, press L the machine will prompt you to add files to playlist. Find
the files select them
and press enter. Now assuming you select all 10 they will play and be added to
a playlist which can
either be saved as an m3u or pls file. If you want to be able to call those
songs then within the
playlist editor CTRL S you will be prompted to save the playlist Call it what
you want put it where
you want put it on the desktop if you like. As long as the files it points to
are in the same
location they will be played whenever you activate the playlist file. Is that
what you were after?

VLC is much better for video. If you're going to be viewing shows and movies
and such, VLC is the way to go. However it doesn't seem to have the audio
flexibility that winamp does, so I happily use both. The nice thing about
VLC though is that it will play any video file at all without the need to
hunt around for codecs. There are still videos that i have never
successfully got to play with winamp even though they seem like fairly
standard file formats.

Okay so suppose Winamp has an Update function, does it work now? Will it stop

First, will it still be able to be retrieved from Ninite? When I got the
updater for Winamp from Ninite, and I updated Winamp with it, it reported
that Winamp was being downloaded. Where is this download coming from? If
from the Ninite site, and there isn't any copyright issue with Winamp, then
there should be no problem getting it that way. If Ninite is retrieving the
update from the Winamp site, then it won't work anymore.

Second, does AOL control the database Winamp uses for auto tagging? If not,
then this feature should still work. If AOL does control this database, and
they consider it a service for Winamp, this feature may not work after
December 20.

I hope this explains what I'm wondering about. I got the Winamp installer,
so if I have to reformat this hard drive I still have a good copy to use to
install it. We'll see what happens after December 20.

Have a great day, and don't work too hard.

Hi.

Here's something I'm curious about. What happens to the Ninite update for
Winamp after AOL shuts down the Winamp site? I wonder if that method of
updating Winamp will still work. I'm going to grab the installer for
Winamp

5.66 Pro in case the Ninite link quits working.

think about it mate, when wibnamp shuts down, no more winamp updates.
You'll just have to keep using the version you have now forever, or
until there's a version of windows that no longer supports winamp, and
the next version won't be out until at least 2015. I'd not upgrade
then, until the bugs are out, so another 4 or 5 years of winamp use
shall be yours.

Exactly so. It isn't as though Winamp is just going to go poof on December
20. I will find another player eventually, but I expect to be using Winamp
for a while, maybe quite a while, after the updates stop. The bookmarks will
still work, (they are often the same as those for iTunes anyway), the
Gracenotes service will still work, so I can keep ripping CDs. I'm just
going to keep using it until I get a compelling reason to change, such as a
new PC with an OS that doesn't support it, or some new feature that I just
positively must have.

Restating my questions was RE: Getting Winamp from Ninite.com was RE: Where do you get WinampPro? was RE: Winamp Shutting downonDecember20, 2013

2013-11-21 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

I think people aren't understanding what I'm asking. I know Winamp will
keep working after AOL stops supporting it. I have two things I'm wondering
about.

Regarding Winamp Pro the link I gave in my previous version is for the free

2013-11-20 Thread Merv Keck
The Verge and Tech crunch both are reporting it although I couldn't find it
either. tech Crunch has AOL as it's parent company but still gave a
surprisingly honest article about how AOL mismanaged winamp after it took it
over or it could have been as good lol as iTunes. They basically said the
site hasn't been properly updated in a year and go get it quick if you want
the last version before it goes away.

Hi all,

the following information is taken from the Winamp home page at
www.winamp.com:

Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past
December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be
available for download. Please download the latest version before that
date.

end of article.

If you want to get the latest version which is now 5.66 I'd strongly
encourage you to download it while you can! A direct link to the file is
at

http://tinyurl.com/kkxgont

It is not known if Winamp will still function normally after it is no
longer being developed. It is certainly popular in the blind community.

Below are the changes in version 5.66:

* Improved: Added a Reset button to clear history in the Open/Add URL
dialog
* Improved: Added an option to disable the mouse wheel from altering the
volume
* Improved: Added more commandline switches (run: winamp.exe /? to see
full list)
* Improved: All menus now use the skinned style when option is enabled in
ML settings
* Improved: Disable all online features when no internet connection
selected in Prefs
* Improved: High DPI text scaling compatibility fixes for dialogs
library views
* Improved: Increased notification area tooltips up to 128 chars (instead
of 64)
* Improved: Library views now optionally group the 'Play' and 'Enqueue'
buttons
* Improved: Mass metadata editor from library now also available in
Playlist Editor
* Improved: Retry UAC prompt if user previously selected No (for
relevant settings)

* Improved: Speed-up of Winamp shutdown process
* Improved: [gen_ff] Added a setting to control show/hide time for docked
toolbars

* Improved: [gen_ml] Drag drop handling tweaks
* Improved: [ml_downloads] Added 'Size' column
* Improved: [ml_history] New options for resuming playback (for podcasts
or all files)
* Improved: [ml_history] Added a 'Play Offset' column with right-click
option to clear
* Improved: [ml_local] Added Podcast, BPM Rating fields to Ctrl+E
metadata editor
* Improved: [ml_playlists] Option to use source file instead of
database-managed copy
* Improved: [ml_nowplaying/wire] Added support to use alternative
services

* Improved: [ml_pmp] Added a simple view to match Local library support
* Improved: [pmp_android/usb] Added disc support to File Name
Formatting
* Fixed: Agent not using Winamp window if a clone is already running (eg.
KMPlayer)

* Fixed: Length not being read when set to read titles on load
* Fixed: Ratings-related freeze on right-clicking large selections in
playlist editor
* Fixed: Saving to wrong extension for the 'Save As' action in the Alt+3
Artwork tab
* Fixed: Unicode characters not displaying in taskbar when some old
plugins are present
* Fixed: Various issues with aero-peek and docking of freeform skins as
an appbar
* Fixed: [gen_jumpex] 'Jump to File' window not always visible when
pressing 'J' or 'F3'
* Fixed: [gen_ff] Docking to bottom/right when windowframe scale is
anything but 1.0
* Fixed: [gen_tray] Lockup/double-start issues when using the 'Prev'
action

* Fixed: [in_flac] Removal of embedded artwork
* Fixed: [in_midi] Memory comparison crash with badly formed .kar files
* Fixed: [libmp4v2] Crash due to invalid pointer check on corrupt files
* Fixed: [pmp_android/usb] Crash on bad path

2013-11-20 Thread Steve Pattison

Hi all,

Sorry for the confusion. If you go to

www.winamp.com/media-player/all

and when you're at the top of that page use your screen reader's find
command to search for Winamp.com without the quotes and start reading
from there you should find the message about Winamp shutting down.

Regarding Winamp Pro the link I gave in my previous version is for the
free version of Winamp. However if you've already purchased a serial
number for Winamp Pro and entered it into Winamp the latest version will
turn into Winamp Pro. It looks like you can no longer buy Winamp pro
though. I've been using Winamp Pro since 2004.

Regards Steve.

that is the latest Pro version or not.

Winamp Pro and entered it into Winamp the latest version will turn into Winamp
Pro. It looks like you can no longer buy Winamp pro though. I've been using
Winamp Pro since 2004.

very possibly, but certainly for VI user friendliness and ease of use, I for
one have yet to find something to stack up to winamp, especially for

I use VLC and works well for me.

I'm sure there are thousands of other players out there and I'm equally sure
that others on list use other players than Winamp and use them well.

Yep, thought we'd hear the words blind friendly before too long, Winamp
is certainly not the only accessible and user friendly media player on
the planet and if anything I reckon its become less friendly as time has
gone on.

I used to enjoy Winamp 10 years ago but lately its become bloated beyond
belief, web site is difficult in parts to get around, does anyone really
know what all the functions and plug-ins actually do?

Of course the other popular media player now is iTunes, Apple have
really tightened things up in the last few versions, the software has
been completely rewritten and - with most Screen Reading software - is
very easy to use and get around.

2013-11-20 Thread Rich De Steno

This is from the Softpedia site:
Winamp will officially go dark next month
Winamp, once one of the most popular media players on the market, will
be officially discontinued on December 20, 2013, due to yet to be
disclosed reasons.
AOL announced the decision in a brief statement on the official
Winamp.com website, saying that the webpage and the downloadable media
player will be removed on December 20.
