Now, since they are offering prices to good fathers, I also dialed in specifically Galia's lenses for K-7. FA 50/1.4 needed minor correction, DA 21 and FA 100/3.5 did not. It's not really my system. It's pretty much the standard for adjusting autofocus, and Boris has it right. There are alternatives that are somewhat easier to use but more difficult to construct, such as a method where the target is a slope that rises at 45 degrees and the camera is level. The target, whether on the floor or angled up from the floor has a series of evenly spaced line and a central target line. I made my target line slightly bolder than the rest and placed a red dot at its center. After shooting in single center spot autofocus mode, with the center line as the target, you simply observe the results and determine if the center line is indeed the sharpest. If not, you can see if the camera is back-focusing or front-focusing by determining which line is sharpest. The important part is that you shoot of a tripod when adjusting and check the focus at wide open apertures. I also check my results on the computer screen rather than trying to decipher a tiny image on the camera viewing screen. RE: K5 has arrived here
But please be careful abut what you write...bear in mind that it can have fatal consequences in others' wallets... ;-) Jaume K-5 is crap, pictures at ISO54000 are practically unusable, all the modes have been made redundant by the dedicated ISO button and program shift, there is no autofocus on movies, focusing in Live View can be beaten by any super-compact and some SD cards catch on to something and are difficult to remove. Viewfinder blackout is so short that you have to check if it has really made an exposure after each shot and autofocus is so quiet with SDM lenses that there is no trusting it! Avoid it if you can! But seriously after removing all the crap on startup and adjusting settings to my liking, K-5 is the first Pentax DSLR that gets completely out of my way when taking pictures. It is a remarkable feat and something that (although subjective) is the best compliment any camera could get. kris -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: PESO - Creative cell phone tower
I like it. My home town in Massachusetts is an old mill town. The skyline was spotted with these 200 ft brick chimneys (like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Durfee_Mill_No1.jpg). A number of these have been converted to cell towers. The locals were oddly reluctant to have them taken down so it's a good solution. Here is mine, kind of second hand. Paul has made a target which I think he can share. You put it on the floor, you shoot it with your camera angled approximately 45 deg to the floor and once you shoot you correct the AF with in-camera correction module. By doing so you dial in or effectively produce an individual correction for each of your lenses, provided you don't have too many. In case of fast or cranky lenses, such as FA 50/1.4 or zoom lenses such as Sigma 24-60/2.8 (Sigmas generally being known for AF imprecision) it can be a difference between lost and made shot. RE: Setting Time on the K-x (EXACTLY) ???
From: Darren Addy I've never noticed this before but my clock is off by 6-1/2 minutes. I know that the ISS was closest to me last night at 18:59:55 so I wanted to concentrate on frames shot around that time. Looking at the EXIF I noticed that I was off. I can only assume that the clock I set it by was fast and I didn't think about the importance of accuracy. I figured I could calculate the offset, so went into the menus and noticed (for the first time) that you can't set the seconds. So I'm assuming that to set it correctly you select the minute ahead of the one you are calibrating to and hit OK right as it hits that exact minute. The time input doesn't seem to change with the clock when you are in the menus, so I think this is the correct procedure. I used the U.S. Navel Observatory Simple Time: http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/simpletime.html It might not have been off when you originally set it. I have noticed that the clocks in the cameras do not keep accurate time. Mine all seem to lose time (lag behind). You have to occasionally check and reset them. Otherwise the error can grow significantly. - No virus found in this message. Re: OT: Good Lightroom 3 book?
I find that the available books are a little difficult and slow for newcomers to learn from. Lightroom is a very interactive application, it's easier to get the base knowledge about using it by seeing it in use. Tutorial videos are a better way to get rolling, then any of Martin Evening, Scott Kelby, Mikaal Aalund, etc books work well as reference and additional depth. From: steve harley i _am_ using Thunderbird; i had noticed in passing that in Thunderbird /slashes/ make italics, but only when in the HTML view, and Tbird sometimes fails to terminate the italics correctly; but i more often use the plain text view; nonetheless by mentioning this you literally made me rethink my old-school assumption that the _underscore_ was the best way to indicate italics in plain text; each has its plusses -- /slashes/ are a better mnemonic for italics, but underlining (kin to underscores, but can't be done in plain text) was the equivalent to italics during the reign of the typewriter I'm using Thunderbird as well, and when reading in plain text view the /italics/, the _underscores_ and the *bold* all show up. They don't show up in the composition window when you're writing, and I'd never noticed before the quoted text doesn't show them either. Now I'll have to look to see if the quoted /italics/, _underscores_ and *bold* show up in the plain text view when reading. - No virus found in this message. Well, what I did was adjust my Sigma 24-60 at 60 mm and check it at 24 mm. Due to difference in DOF, 60 mm focusing precision is more important to me. But any way that makes sense would work. And yes, you had to back up and type in the underlines under the words. ann I learned on one like this one. http://tinyurl.com/6cmsy2t ... or some similar late 50s vintage standard office typewriter. I learned to type in the mid 60s while I was in high school. The typewriters we used in class had all the key-caps replaced with blanks so you couldn't look at the keyboard to figure out where the letters were. You had to keep your eyes on the text on your copy stand. Nor could you look at the typescript to see if you were typing correctly. If the teacher caught you looking at the page while you were typing she'd slap you up against the back of the head with a ruler. If you were looking at the keys, you'd get your hand smacked. For practice at home, I had an old Remington that once belonged to my grandmother; one even older than your Underwood. http://machinesoflovinggrace.com/large/Remington12.jpg Typing on a computer is so much easier. - No virus found in this message. John, I learned typing in a summer high school class of 50 or 60.. The teacher was a former prison camp guard, and she was determined to teach these girls a secretarial skill ! ! ! I only used my art gum eraser (from the mechanical drawing class) ONCE before she confiscated it. How she snuck up behind me is still a mystery. Regards, Bob S.
