First found in late 2014, cancer of the left kidney. By last week, cancer is is

Over 1500 PDML msgs to read. May not get too much done as the brain is damaged.

Re: PESO: Sliding Seat

2015-11-28 Thread knarf
I like this photo, beyond the obvious interest of showing a part of rowing that
many may not be aware of (the sliding seat for leg power).

There are some interesting geometries and different textures etc (like the
water in the background) along with strong composition that lift it.

BTW, just from the toes of the shoes on the right, those look like cycling
shoes, which would make total sense because a very stiff footbed would make for
extremely efficient power transfer and pushing off. Are rowing shoes made by
companies like Shimano (those ones look very much like Shimano), Diadora,
Sidi, Specialized, Northwave, etc? Nike also makes a popular cycling shoe.

Cheers,

frank

But then he was a different kind of athlete. Completed his law degree while

One of my friends and classmates at Dartmouth, Kevin Lowther, was one
of the first college goalies to wear a face mask. He was injured by a
puck to the face early in his college career, just about the time that
Plante first started wearing a mask in the NHL. He missed most of a
season, and when he came back, did so wearing the mask, which was
unheard of back them.

Those were real men, who manned the crease with a bare face!

I'm well aware of Dryden, as he played for Cornell just after I
graduated Dartmouth. The league was dominated by Dartmouth and
Harvard in hockey until Dryden showed up.

As a devils fan, of course, I would go with Martin Brodeur, but to be
honest, the great Czech flopper, Dominik Hasek, probably has the best
claim on the all time goalie position.

The closeness of the window ledge to the bottom edge of the image and the
inclusion of the strip (of wood ?) next to the menu on the LH side. Minor

Re: PESO: Quick Change

2015-11-28 Thread knarf
The Jacques Plante mask story took place in one night. Sort of.

He'd been bugging coach Toe Blake to wear the mask he'd been wearing in
practice during a game but Blake wouldn't let him.

Until one night when he was cut badly. As was the custom back then, they took
him to the dressing room, stitched him up and he came back out to play. Teams
only carried one goalie then so the game waited while this was done.

He came back out with the mask which Blake reluctantly let him wear. The deal
was Plante could wear it until the injury healed. But Plante won 11 in a row
with the mask and was then in a position to tell Blake he wasn't taking it off
again.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/m_news.htm?id=383063

Plante was also one of the greatest of all time, a true innovator in many other
ways.

BTW your Devils just beat my Habs. Must have been a good home-and-home as we
won last night. Good hockey when those two meet.

Cheers,

frank

Ken, I hear you. I must say that, I did not spend too much time on this
shot, although this framing with all its deficiencies that you pointed
out was entirely intentional...

Well. as I often say "we aim to please, sometimes we miss"...

The closeness of the window ledge to the bottom edge of the image and the

points but gives the feel of a snap as opposed to a crafted, thought out image.

Ken, I can hear you about the subject. I mean - having heard others :-).

But can you please explain in a sentence or two - what is it in the
composition (or lack thereof) that does not work for you... I'd rather
learn.

Indeed, that would naturally follow from my statement of not spotting
the flies. I can hardly injure a fly if I don't see it :-).

Tonally, it is beautiful.
Compositionally, I might consider a closer, full-frontal view of the
window part.
More importantly, I feel that a human element (shadow of a cook
inside?) might also contribute.

Good to see you productive :)
