Re: Peso-Ringed-Bill Gull

2017-11-29 Thread P. J. Alling
The most annoying thing about photo.net, is that they've noticed I run
an adblocker.  Pages load so much slower without it.   Plus they don't
police the adverts they serve particularly well, pretty much no sites do
that, some of which have actually hung my browser.  I don't mind adverts
as such, but when I'm forced to restart the browser after killing the
process it puts me off.  I doubt they've changed their procedures, I'll
be damned if I change mine.

Re: OT: I thought geothermal energy would be safe

Nothing is safe if one doesn't know what forces might be unleashed.   It
would seem that the drilling company didn't have even one competent
geologist, and one high school chemist on staff.  But then at least they
didn't decided to stress test an operating graphite nuclear reactor, to
destruction,  though I doubt the technicians at Chernobyl realized that
they were stressing it to destruction, and if anyone did, it was
probably realized too late...

Re: PESO 2017 - Godfrey On Travel - GDG

2017-11-29 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
LOL! Thank you both.

I must have been the most oblivious person back then. I never thought I was
that attractive, didn't realize that I was gay until fifteen years later. I
just always wondered why my relationships, such as they were, never went
anywhere. My buddy Harvey saw this photo shortly after I bought the new
motorcycle and said, "Damn, you were one hell of a cutie then!" I turned to him
and said, "If someone, ANYone, had told me that back then, it would have saved
me from fifteen years more confusion."

Ach, such it is.

Anyway, it was such a joy to be out on the road again and feeling great. Can't
wait for next season when I can do some traveling on the motorcycle too.

The trip was not without its costs: I just dropped the car off at the detailed
for a thorough cleaning, polish, and wax to get rid of the last of the calicchi
mud on the undercarriage from New Mexico, and to repair the damage to the
finish (and blow the half ton of dirt out from under the hood) caused by the
wind/sand storm at the Nevada/California border. And I just ordered replacement
rear tires—burned them down to the carcass with all the high speed, coarse road
surfaces.

I'll get to more photos after I get back home this afternoon. I noticed a few
more that I liked when I did a quick review yesterday. :-)

Re: Adapting Nikon lens for K-mount?

2017-11-29 Thread Stanley Halpin
Larry & Godfrey - thanks for the notion of buying a used Nikon. Not sure if I
will pursue that option, but I will keep that thought in mind.

P.J. - thanks for the link to the leitax site. As I read it, their
Nikon-to-Pentax conversion is just for older manual lenses. I may reconsider
which if any of the Nikon lenses to hold onto.
The second site you mentioned involves a modification to the camera itself, and
I would be leery of that, to say the least. Even without their side comments
about the reduction in WR and that, once done, the Nikon lens won’t “click”
into place.

LOL! Thanks sir!
What I keep in mind as I work through all this physical stuff is the Godfrey I

Re: PESO 2017 - Godfrey On Travel - GDG

2017-11-29 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
Bob,

Thanks!

Ugh, you've been busy with medical horror. Sorry to hear of the gout … I get
that occasionally too, it really and truly sucks. It's been a while since a
flare-up hit—I take great pains to avoid them. Hopefully it will pass quickly
and you can get back to "life as it ought to be."

Getting home again consumed most of yesterday, but I did get out on the
motorcycle for a few errands and then for dinner with my moto friends. Damn, I
just love to ride two wheelers, whether powered or not! Racer is just such a
happy machine, he loves to rev and rev. Today I have a 15-20 mile bicycle ride
planned, depending on how late it is when I drag my butt away from my desk;
there's still a bunch of stuff to manage preparatory to the holiday trip coming
up.

It would be great to go for a bike ride over there … or for you to head over
here for a ride. I know the local bicycle shop does rentals. We have to think
about that for some time in the future when you're fit again … and I'm more fit
so I can keep up with you! :-)

(I'll be over to Ireland and the Isle of Man for the X-day/New Years
festivities, but I had to defer travel to your locale until the next trip. So
the opportunity might arise later in 2018.)

Feel better,
G
