Dave, my system is as follows:
I have two main folders
- K10D (where I store unsorted stuff, which of course can be called
Unsorted, but I am too lazy to rename it)
- Digital (where I store the sorted stuff)
It goes like this:
K10D\-MM-DD - short description
Yes, it does.
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
I generally only use 2 cameras at any time, more would get confusing.
Does it really matter which camera took the image? The image records it
anyway.
I just load all the images into a single directory, changing the name as

No it does not, but at the time i dream t this up, it seemed to .:-)
Back when i only had one dslr, i just made a yearly directory and
added folders as photos came along. Mostly
equine as at first, i would not use the dslr for personal use in case
i broke it and could not do the shows.
As i aquired more cameras i thought it best to keep camera
directories. Now,

I used to keep track of things by camera, but gave it up. It's too
confusing and there really isn't much point to it.
Several years now I have used the directory structure:

in_progress /
MMDD - tag
completed_work /
YYNNN - tag - MMDD

Let's see. Sometimes I develop my film, either here for BW or there
for color. Once that's done it might go in a sleeve, but sometimes I'll
scan it first. And if I get lazy it might not make it to the sleeve and

When I'm working with film images (I still have *tons* of negatives)
the scans are incorporated into my directory tree as posted prior. I
edit the TIFF scan file's metadata and keywords to establish which

Dave,
A timely comment as I am just checking my files.
Most of the digital stuff is organized by camera.
The formats/file sizes are a bit different as in Sony S85, *istDS, and K10d.
The scanned film is just losely dumped into a location.
The Sony S85 had a folder and series of files.

It sounds much too complicated... Then again I only have two dslrs and
I haven't come up with a good method, and seldom use them at the same
time so archiving should be relatively easy, (any yet somehow it isn't).

Thats what i'm finding now. Abit unorganized and dificult to tell or
remember what is backed up or not.
Sounds like a main directory and then set up like Cotty or Godfrey,
with code for the camera maybe. I don't use LR or Elements to
download, i drag and drop from the card reader to the folder
I'm changing my management organization now, and removing the
camera-specific hierarchy.
My plan is :
Directory structure:
ImageLibrary/mmdd-tag/
Image filenames are renamed to:
MMDD-HHMM-origname.
I'd use the database tool to determine any camera differences.
Like Bob, I'm also
You don't have to perform the file download from card to computer
using LR or PSE, all you have to do is organize your file system and
download to the appropriate directories.
Using Lightroom's facilities to do the downloading does have its
other benefits ... I have LR automatically assign

I have 1 folder per year and 1 folder per shoot within that.
The shoot folder shows the date -mm-dd and a brief shoot
description. If I have more than one shoot on the same day I will
split up into separate folders.
e.g.
Photos
2007
2007-10-23 Landscapes around Mdina
When I do a rename of my files with breezebrowser I ask it to
incorporate the camera ID in the name of the file
e.g. 20080123_K10D1234.jpg or 20080123_1D1234.jpg
The tool knows which camera it is.

Yeah, I store stuff primarily by Year and Event. So I've got
directories like
2006
ARRC
ATL-SCCA Christmas Party
Mitty
Petit le Mans
...
2007
ARRC
ATL-SCCA Christmas Party
Mitty
