hm. this hides the upload target of upcoming upload. But if it helps
git-dch, it might make sense to communicate this via other means.

ok, I'll try with UNRELEASED.

AFAIUI, we want *everything* _compiled_ against the headers of
libjackd1. The resulting binaries are then supposed to work at runtime
against both implementations. In fact, we install jackd2 by default.

> Also, when building liquidsoap inexperimental, I have a failure in cowbuilder

ocaml-bjack Depends on libjack-jackd2-0 | libjack-0.116, i.e., it should
be installable with both jackd1 and jackd2, with a preference of
jackd2. This is intended.

If this is the symptom you try to fix, please elaborate on this
failure. I suspect the problem to be in your cowbuilder setup.

Please make it follow whatever is in the shlibs file of
libjack-jackd2-0, which contains libjack-jackd2-0 | libjack-0.116.
However, I don't really see the point in this dependency.

No, we really want to use the headers from the jackd1 implementation to
be used by default. This change would break that.

We are waiting on the Maintainer, Paul Brossier, to review and upload
it. In the last email I got from him on August 3rd, he said:

"Right now I think too many changes have been made in the git branch

IOhannes and I have proposed to him moving the 'puredata' package to

Yes, if it works for any distro of pd (i.e. puredata/Pd-vanilla,
pdextended/Pd-extended, etc.) then the package name should start with
pd-* and it should depend on 'pd'. If it is only for a specific fork,
i.e. puredata, then the package name would be puredata-wiimote, and it
would depend on 'puredata'.

next, two small, weird-ish packages: puredata-import and pd-libdir

2010-09-13 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner

Ok, I figure while we are on a roll, I'll feed in a few more from my
backlog. The ones so far are just standard Pd libraries, so pretty
straightforward. These two, puredata-import and pd-libdir, are things
to support libraries, so they are not big, but more complicated to
package. Also, the lack of puredata-dev makes it a bit more complicated
(its in collab-maint/puredata.git awaiting attention from the
Maintainer). These two are quite important so I wanted to get them in
now, then when/if puredata-dev arrives, I'll amend them appropriately.

You'll notice that these two packages include two headers as a patch.
That's what should be in puredata-dev, but are not yet. We also just
streamlined the installation of headers upstream in 0.43, that's why
these depend on puredata (<< 0.43).

There is also the naming of pd-import vs puredata-import. Basically,
there are multiple forks of Pd, 'puredata' represents the original. I
hope to package 'pdanywhere' and 'pdextended' soon. That's the origin of
the "Provides: pd", these packages will all provide 'pd'.
puredata-import is not called pd-import because its meant for only
'puredata', not 'pdextended' for example. 'pdextended' has the import
object built-in, so 'pdextended' will "Provides: pd-import".

Also, libdir-1.9.tar.gz and import-1.3.tar.gz were recently uploaded to
sourceforge, so they are not showing up for me yet with a "uscan --dehs
--report".

crystalhd package will be maintained by Ouattara and myself now. The packaging
for crystalhd has also moved. It is now located in collab-maint directory.

Vcs-Git: git://git.debian.org/git/collab-maint/crystalhd.git

Also, this package will be for both the library and drivers now. The drivers

debhelper optionally strips. It cannot "un-strip" if stripped by
upstream build routines, as seems to be the case here.

Currently the strip is happening in the install target with the
$(STRIP) variable. I suppose it would be possible to set $(STRIP) to
"touch", that would work with the current Makefile.

All of these pd packages that I am uploading use the same Makefile
template. We wrote this Makefile with the expressed intention of
making it really easy to package properly. So what is debhelper
looking for in order to have separate install and strip capabilities?

Normally, Debian packaging routines disable any stripping done during
upstream build routines. Patching it away if need be.

Or, at least this was the case in the good old days...

With the introduction of short-form dh, debhelper works *both* after
upstream build routines as in the old days, and *also* acts as initiator
of upstream build routines.

If you insist on stripping as part of upstream build routines, it might
now be possible to instruct recent releases of debhelper to control
that. I really don't know the details of that, and I feel it is the
wrong approach (even with short-form dh).

I recommend to do the following:

  * Make upstream build routines support not doing any stripping
  * Let debhelper do its work - it strips when needed
  * If debhelper miss stripping some files (e.g. due to unusual naming)
then *still* avoid doing it in upstream build routines, but instead
extend the Debian debian/rules file to do it - read Policy for
example routine to use to properly respect build flags

Hope that helps.

Ok, I updated pd-earplug, pd-freeverb, and pd-plugin in git.debian.org.
Looks like you already did pd-bassemu. I also applied these changes to
all the packages I've ITP'ed, which are currently in the pure-data SVN,
e.g.
https://pure-data.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/pure-data/trunk/externals/loaders/libdir

The packages that are still in pure-data SVN are waiting on the new
puredata-dev, which is waiting in collab-maint/puredata.git for the
Maintainer to comment on or upload.

I suppose it would be easier to hack on CDBS rules file if you happen to be
CDBS author.

I however didn't find it easier when I was trying to do the equivalent of
'override_dh_gencontrol' using CDBS. For example, look at [1]. Chromium
browser dlopen's ffmpeg libs. In order to depend on proper ffmpeg libs using
dpkg-shlibdeps mechanism of calculating dependencies, the dependencies have to
be manually added.

It took me quite a while to figure out that the equivalent for
'override_dh_gencontrol' in CDBS is overridding
'binary-makedeb-IMPL/::' target from debhelper.mk. It was not
documented cdbs-doc, so I had to actually look at the source to figure this
out.

This reminds me. I should now report a bug to CDBS about this.

The bindings do not require any particular flavor. The problem is that any
program using libbjack-ocaml must compile against it, thus installing
libbjack-ocaml-dev.

libbjack-ocaml-dev has a dependency on libjack-dev, which pulls jackd1. I
believe that instead one should be able to use any jack implementation for the
build.

Also, when building liquidsoap inexperimental, I have a failure in cowbuilder
because some of the dependencies pull jack2 and ocaml-bjack pulls jack1.

Adding a dependency on the developpement package of the corresponding C
library in libbjack-ocaml-dev seems a reasonable requirement to me, though I
think it has been discussed in that past I think.

The straight-forward solution would be to change this dependency to
  libjack-jackd2-dev | libjack-dev
but I would like to know if this is the solution you would advise.

Then, the other questions is: should this be also propagated to testing ? The
answer seems to be yes to me but again, I would like to have your input on
this.

Thanks,
Romain

Currently the strip is happening in the install target with the $(STRIP)
variable. I suppose it would be possible to set $(STRIP) to "touch",
that would work with the current Makefile.

All of these pd packages that I am uploading use the same Makefile
template. We wrote this Makefile with the expressed intention of making
it really easy to package properly. So what is debhelper looking for in
order to have separate install and strip capabilities?

 * I cannot help with issues directly tied to short-form dh, since I am

Do the ocaml jack bindings work with both jackd1 and jackd2? or do they
require a specific flavor? what about potential other jack

Bug#596676: ITP: gst-entrans -- transcoding and recording plug-ins and tools for GStreamer

2010-09-13 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jonas Smedegaard

* Package name: gst-entrans
  Version : 0.10.2
  Upstream Author : Mark Nauwelaerts
* URL : http://gentrans.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL-2+
  Programming Lang: C, Python
Description : transcoding and recording plug-ins and tools for GStreamer

GEntrans, or GStreamer Entrans, is a software package providing a
collection of plug-ins and tools for the GStreamer multimedia framework
specifically geared towards transcoding and recording purposes.
 .
GStreamer allows for easy multimedia processing and creation of
multimedia applications, as e.g. demonstrated by a number of players
and some other applications already built on it. The purpose here is to
concentrate on using the framework for transcoding purposes.
 Specifically, this project provides for:
  * a collection of plug-ins that perform (mainly video) filtering, be
it ported from other existing sources, or otherwise developed or
contributed. In either case, however, once so available through
GStreamer API, they can be used by any other GStreamer based
application (including scripted languages using one of the available
language bindings)
  * (scripted) tools wrapping and exposing GStreamer functionality to
cater for a comfortable experience; pipeline building, non-linear
selections, reporting, configuration management, etc
  * some documentation and explanation that goes along with all this
particular purpose

sorry to interrupt, but as i see it, the build process now
unconditionally strips the binaries, which violates the debian-policy
(4.9.1 DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS "nostrip")

at least, if i compile with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="nostrip", the resulting
binary "arraysize.pd_linux" will still be stripped.

I did not offer to massage the huge patch, as I dislike that approach.

At other times I have suggested people to use CDBS for their packaging,

Bug#596559: Removed package(s) from unstable

2010-09-13 Thread Debian Archive Maintenance
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

--- Reason ---
ANAIS; Not built by current source
--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 596...@bugs.debian.org.

a Pd object for transistor bass emulation
bassemu~ is an object that simulates a transistor-based electronic
synthesizer. This serves as a emulation of an analogue bass synth. It
includes the obligatory filter, saw/rect/tri/sine waveform select, an
extra hi-pass filter. You can also feed another signal to its left
inlet, and filter that, either alone or mixed to the vco.
 .
Also included is a small, messy gop abstraction to resemble a 16-step
 sequencer.

Changes: pd-bassemu (0.3-1) unstable; urgency=low

Re: xvidcore broken - ok to use CDBS?

You betcha!

Not offering my help to avoid mentioning CDBS would be ridiculous.

Hint: Offer your help without mentioning CDBS.

Especially in cases like this, in which the package is easily fixed
with either a refreshed patch or one additional line (i.e. autoconf
build/generic/configure.in -o build/generic/configure) in the current
debian/rules file.

Abandoning CDBS to avoid your silly comments would be ridiculous.

Silly comments, he? Have you ever considered that it may sound
insulting for a package maintainer if you repeatedly suggest to
convert their current debian/rules implementation to something
different, just because you like it better?

Now, could we please move on?

Yes, please. ;)

Please fix the following:

 - debian/copyright: The file doesn't match the spec proposal
template. Take a look at one of the copyright files that I touched,
they may help you.
 - debian/watch:
version=3
http://sf.net/pure-data/bassemu~-(.*)\.tar\.gz

Replace `bassemu~` with the name of the component, it should be fine
enough. To test it, run `uscan --dehs --report`
 - debian/control: I'd prefer to see applying a one-dep-per-line style.
 - debian/gbp.conf: Add the field `sign-tags = True'

Let me know when ready.
