Hi Gabriel,
If you are looking for alternative for the two softwares: I would suggest
GIMP for photoshop, they almost have the same set of features you can use.
You can also try Blender for 3D images. For the editing tool, you could try
eclipse IDE (this one I am using) or amaya or mozilla.
hi ryan,
i think gabriel's point is not just knowing what he can try out, but
rather, he is suggesting topics for possible presentations during a
meet up. we can easily find out the equivalents of proprietary
software in the free software world using insert name of preferred

that's not even a good reason enough Mike. Truth to tell, if it was just a

* steps in setting up editors like eclipse, etc so they work
* examples in using gimp

For the remote management part you can try Webmin

can use openNMS(http://www.opennms.org).

Hi Nelson,
Just an idea.
The encrypt() function is a 1 way hash. You may just create a password
change page that selects the crypted value of the password, against
the supplied crypted password supplied by the actual user: Then insert
the new crypted password back to the database.

I had connected a terminal server on my linux box via serial, so i can have

For me at least, Linux is no longer my hobby. So i have no motivation
to experiment with it. Heck, I've used Windows as a desktop for the
past 18 months!!! before that, I was a pure Linux desktop guy.
I really miss the old days. Yes William, you're still here, but
