If so, that's probably the issue, I can't enable automatic rescan of
Custom Scan if Automatically detect changes is enabled because it
will cause huge performance problem since the Automatically detect
changes isn't reliable, it will trigger too often so you might end up
with a continuously running Custom Scan process which is very bad for
both the functionality and performance of the system.

If the above isn't the cause, is the Automatic rescan option under
 SBS Settings/Advanced/Custom Scan/Various Settings enabled ?

If it is, could you try looking in the server.log to see if you see
some error or other information in the log. You could enable debug
logging on plugin.customscan in SBS Settings/Advanced/Logging to make
sure you get some more log information.

Ah - I understand.
Yes - I have Automatically detect changes enabled.
I thought this option would simply replace my use of the Autorescan
plugin.
A bit more explanation:
To update ratings I update them in windows explorer which used to
trigger a scan, followed by a custom scan and voila, my song/album
would be rated.
I will have to think about how I can achieve this now.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezescrobbler and 7.6

2011-07-27 Thread omenge

Hi!

I upgraded to the official 7.6 (Version: 7.6.0 - r32854 @ Mon Jul 25
10:10:04 PDT 2011). The server runs debian linux.

Sadly, since I upgraded the squeezescrobbler plugin (v1.2.9) does not
work anymore. The plugin page under settings says Plugin failed to
load and the server log says:

Slim::bootstrap::tryModuleLoad (289) Warning: Module

Any ideas?

Thanks, Oliver

Hi Erland,

I upgrade to 7.6 yesterday. I did as instructed and removed all data
then restored from file (I do a nightly backup). My log is full of the
same error, eg

It seems no stats have been imported. I guess this might be due to
syntax for network drives. In settings:advanced:trackstat the backup
location is referred to thus: D:\shares\Music\Squeezebox\TrackStat

Any ideas? Do I need to refer to the backup location as a network share

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezescrobbler and 7.6

2011-07-27 Thread erland

The MP3::Info module is no longer distributed with Squeezebox Server
7.6, so the Squeezescrobbler plugin will have to bundle it with the
plugin.

The easiest temporary solution is probably just to install the
MP3::Info module on the debian machine, I believe the package is called
libmp3-info-perl in Ubuntu, not sure if it's named the same in Debian.

If that doesn't solve it, you can probably install Custom Scan plugin
(since it bundles MP3::Info) and just make sure to uncheck the Include
in automatic scans and Scan All option on all scanning modules in
SBS Settings/Advanced/Custom Scan unless you plan to use the Custom
Scan plugin.

take hours in a large library.

I'm not sure I see any easy workaround in your case besides manually
trigger a rescan for new/changed files after you have updated the
ratings in Windows Explorer.

I'm guessing Windows Explorer sets the RATING or POPM tags in the file
and you use the Custom Scan Rating Tag module to scan them into SBS ?

If the paths to the music has changed, you can edit the TrackStat

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Will the Spotify functionality improve?

2011-07-27 Thread TheLastMan

maggior;643441 Wrote:
Are Napster and Rapsody available in Europe? If not, then it is only
now that Spotify will have this competition to contend with.

Given the sound quality, cost, squeezebox support, and portability with
the iPod Touch app (especially being able to download music without
buying it), I'm willing to overlook some of the limitation for now.
Rhapsody is only available in the US.

Napster is available in the US, Canada, the UK and Germany.

I am in the UK and although Napster was available long before Spotify,
somehow their marketing was poor and most people were unaware of it.
Even today when I mention Napster people still think it is an illegal
download site!

Spotify took off like a rocket, mainly because of the free version.
They were using the typical drug dealers strategy, give them a few hits
for free and when they are hooked jack up the price. They are also more
widely available in Europe than Napster and were not tainted with the
Napster brand's dodgy past.

On a product comparison of the Unlimited products Napster are not
quite so high-tech, lacking iTunes or Facebook intregration, however
Napster has a web app that does not require the installation of any
software, which is important for people using corporate computers
without Admin access.

Napster used to offer 5 free MP3 tracks a month (and still does to
existing subscribers). That was a real advantage as it reduced the
cost to around £2 a month. It certainly keeps *me* hooked!

Napster integration with the SqueezeBox line is better, with library
and playlists synchronised between the web app and the SB app. It has
been through some really bad patches in the past though, particularly
earlier this year when its SBS app basically failed to run at all for a
while. Currently I find it pretty stable.

Napster and Spotify Premium products (£10 a month) both allow you to
take music with you on Apple or Android mobile devices, although with
Napster I think it is limited to one device whereas with Spotify it is
up to three (could be mistaken on that). Spotify also streams at
320kb/s on their Premium product, rather higher than Napster's
128kb/s.

The benefit of the high bit rate is probably not important unless you
do a lot of critical listening through a high quality hi-fi. You would
probably not notice the difference through a SB Radio or Boom. In these
cases I would let the functionality of each system drive your choice
rather than the bit rate.

No, the path to the music hasn't changed

Yes, the file exists (by the way, this wasn't the only error, I got

Song Info reports the location as \\TheMACServer\Music\Music\Aloe

Yes, rescan was complete before starting

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spicefly SugarCube Version 2.03 (Automatic MusicIP DJ) for 7.x

2011-07-27 Thread Tartifless

Hello,

I noticed something strange since I'm running 7.6.1 of SBS along with
3.50 of sugarcube.
My SBS scans my whole music directory + import musicIP mixable status
in 24 minutes (12 600 songs).
In MusicIP mixer and headless WebUI : I have 12600 songs mixable.

In SBS the scanner status says 12 600 songs when performing the MIP
import, but the issue is that afterwards, I have lots of songs without
the option to create a MusicIP mix. Moreover when I play one of those
songs Sugarcube will not queue another song, though it says it finds a
song in the server.log file !
This issue is quite strange.

What would be the steps to check in order to correct this ?

Regards,
Benoit

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Will the Spotify functionality improve?

2011-07-27 Thread erland

I'm sorry if this gets a tiny bit of topic but it feels related to this
discussion so I'm posting it here.

I guess the real long term question here is how we want to use these
services.

I can personally see two different kind of usages.
1. Discovery and preview of music before I purchase the real CD or
digital download.
2. Adding online music directly to my main library making it possible
to browse a combined library of music I like where some albums comes
from my locally ripped CD's and others come from streaming services
like Spotify, Napster and Rhapsody.

I'd personally want both alternatives on longer terms and I'm also
going to invest some time to try to reach this goal, at least for
Spotify which is available where I live.

For music discovery I think there are a few things that are important:
1.
Make it easy to find music which is related to music I have access to:
-- The On Spotify link already available today makes it easy to find
music by artists I already have in my library.
-- Through the On Spotify/Similar Artists link already available
today which makes it easy to find music similar to the artists I
already have in my library today.
-- The missing link I'd really love is an integration with Michael's
Biography plugin, which would make it possible to find related artists
based on the AMG data provided by the Biography plugin. Making it
possible to launch On Spotify from an artist inside
Biography/Influenced By, Biography/Similar Artists or
Biography/Followed would be really great.

2.
Make it easy to search for things:
-- In iPeng, SqueezePad and the Logitech iOS/Controller apps,
Squeezebox Touch or the web interface this is fairly easy since you
have access to a keyboard.
-- In SqueezeBox Radio, Squeezebox Controller and IP3K devices this is
a big problem since search is really user unfriendly. Remembering
recent searches as both Logitech's Spotify app and Triode's Spotify
plugin does is a start and Triode has taken this one step further by
also remembering Recent artists and albums, which is something I really
miss in the Logitech app. However, something similar to Lazy Search
towards Spotify would really be the icing of the cake on IP3K devices,
I'm not sure if there is any possibility for this though.

3.
Make it easy to discover things based on genres, styles, moods, years,
decades.
-- This is where it gets very interesting to match with data from
LastFM. Matching with data from AMG would be even better but that's
obviously not a possibility due to their rather high licensing prices
and restrictions.

4.
Discover things based on recommendations from friends.
-- Here I think pippin has taken the first step with the latest iPeng
release but I think this could be taken a lot further. Just look at the
Music section in this forum, there are a lot of tips of artists and
albums and songs you might want to listen to, the problem is just that
there is no easy way to listen to it when not sitting beside a
computer. I'm not sure exactly how to solve this but making it easy to
go from the forum on the iPad and make it play the music of the artists
I've selected on the Squeezebox would be a big improvement.

5.
Remember music I've listen to and like and might want to purchase later
on
-- The only thing SBS offers here is favorites and that's really not
working good as a things to buy list IMHO. If there was a way to
star albums in Spotify plugin I guess it would be one step in the
right direction but I'd really want to mark an album for purchase or
something similar. One way would be to make it possible to easily put
it in a favorites sub folder, that's something I think currently only
is possible while sitting beside a computer.

For the possibility to add online music to your music library and get a
mixed library of local and online music there isn't any easy solution
based on SBS database as long as it's completely cleared during a full
rescan. It would be easier if there was an option to clear LOCAL music
and rescan everything but that's currently not an option as SBS don't
want to be a music library management system. A few of us are working
on something to solve this using a separate database, but it's going to
take some time until that's a working solution that could be available
to the general public.

Do you know enough to run the Database Query plugin with a free form
query like this and see what it returns ?
select url from tracks where url like '%01%Need%Dollar.mp3'

If you paste the result into:
http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/dencoder/

And hit Encode, it should match what you are seeing in the TrackStat
backup file. There are probably some differences which is causing the
problems, could be \ instead of / but I think that has worked

Hi Erland,

I run SBS on Windows Home Server and the music is all on that machine
also. There are no Macs in my system at all. I'll have a look at the
Database query plugin, I havent been exposed to it before so I may have
some questions

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] DynamicPlayList stopped working after upgrade to 7.6

2011-07-27 Thread erland

Doesn't this one work ?

The difference is that in 7.5, the SQL had to say:
order by rand()

But in 7.5, this has to be changed to:
order by random()

Which already seems to be the case in this particular playlist, do you
get the error with this one ?

You can try hitting the Refresh playlists link at the bottom of the
Extras/SQL Playlists menu in the SBS web interface, that should
remove any cached information and make sure it creates the SQL based on
the latest version.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

Is there something special with the On Spotify context menu item on an
artist in the Artists menu in iPeng ?

When I try to launch it I'll often just get an error about:
Server returned Error: request failed with error: Bad params

When I launch the same menu in SqueezePad it seems to work correctly.

I'm pretty sure it has sometimes worked in iPeng so I'm not sure if
it's something that has happen with the latest version of Spotify
plugin or iPeng app or if it's caused by something in my environment.
I'm currently using SBS 7.6.0 if that matters.

I've both the Logitech Spotify app and the third party Spotify plugin
installed.

Ok the plugin returns:
file:TheMACServer/Music/Music/Aloe%20Blacc/I%20Need%20a%20Dollar%20Single/01%20I%20Need%20A%20Dollar.mp3

from the URL you gave this encodes to:

Yes, feels like this should work.

Does it work to play this song through SBS ?

If it does, could you try to run the TrackStat restore again and see if
you get the same error messages just to be sure it wasn't something
special that only caused problems the first time ?

If you still get the same problem when you run it again, I probably
have to setup a Windows installation and see if I get the same problems
in my own setup.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] TrackStat restore on SBS 7.6

2011-07-27 Thread ltb76

Hi,

I just made a fresh SBS 7.6 install on Debian 6. I cannot restore my
TrackStat info, I get the error:

Code:

  [11-07-27 15:43:32.5177] Plugins::TrackStat::Storage::saveTrack (983) No
matching alternative path found for
file:///mnt/musik/ACDC/Black%20Ice%20(Rock%20-%202008)/02%20-Skies%20On%20Fire%20.flac.
  [11-07-27 15:43:32.8749] Plugins::TrackStat::Storage::saveTrack (983) No

file:///mnt/musik/ACDC/Black%20Ice%20(Rock%20-%202008)/03%20-Big%20Jack%20.flac.
  [11-07-27 15:43:33.2339] Plugins::TrackStat::Storage::saveTrack (983) No
matching alternative path found for
file:///mnt/musik/ACDC/Black%20Ice%20(Rock%20-%202008)/04%20-Anything%20Goes.flac.

On my old SBS server I had the music in /mnt/musik - and I have keept
that folder structure.

Code:

  /mnt/musik/ACDC/Black Ice (Rock - )/02 -Skies On Fire.flac
  /mnt/musik/ACDC/Black Ice (Rock - )/03 -Big Jack.flac
  /mnt/musik/ACDC/Black Ice (Rock - )/04 -Anything Goes.flac

In the backup (XML) the urls for the files is looking like this

Code:

urlfile%3A%2F%2F%2Fmnt%2Fmusik%2FACDC%2FBlack%2520Ice%2520(Rock%2520-%25202008)%2F02%2520-Skies%2520On%2520Fire%2520.flac/url

urlfile%3A%2F%2F%2Fmnt%2Fmusik%2FACDC%2FBlack%2520Ice%2520(Rock%2520-%25202008)%2F03%2520-Big%2520Jack%2520.flac/url

urlfile%3A%2F%2F%2Fmnt%2Fmusik%2FACDC%2FBlack%2520Ice%2520(Rock%2520-%25202008)%2F04%2520-Anything%2520Goes.flac/url

I'm guessing its the spaces in the folder / file names that is causing
the issue.

Would it be enough to modify the XML file to:

Code:

  urlfile/mnt/musik/ACDC/Black Ice (Rock - )/02 -Skies On Fire.flac/url
  urlfile/mnt/musik/ACDC/Black Ice (Rock - )/03 -Big Jack.flac/url
  urlfile/mnt/musik/ACDC/Black Ice (Rock - )/04 -Anything Goes.flac/url

Or do I need to rename all my files/folders and get rid of the spaces?
Or is there another way to fix this?

Any input much appreciated.

Cheers,

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] TrackStat restore on SBS 7.6

2011-07-27 Thread erland

The backup file url's are URL encoded, so it should in the database in
tracks table match an entry referred to as:

Code:

file:///mnt/musik/ACDC/Black%20Ice%20(Rock%20-%202008)/02%20-Skies%20On%20Fire%20.flac

Which on the file system should match:

Code:

/mnt/musik/ACDC/Black Ice (Rock - 2008)/02 -Skies On Fire .flac

Is this the correct path on the file system ?
With Rock - 2008 in the middle and not just Rock - as you wrote ?
And an extra space before .flac at the end ?

Do you get these warnings on all files or just a few of them ?

If you have renamed files previously, this might just be warning about
old entries in the backup which no longer exist on the file system but
if you get them for all or most entries something is wrong.

In the Database Query plugin, take a look at the result from the
TrackStat Statistics query. If Number of history entries is
considerably higher than Number of songs it has probably worked
properly, at least for most of the songs.

If this is based on a template and you haven't selected to customize
the SQL, try to hit the Refresh playlists link at bottom of SQL
Playlists menu in web interface under Extras/SQL Playlists and see if
that solves it.

If you have selected to manually customize the SQL, you need to
manually update it as:
- You need to change order by rand() to order by random()
- You need to change \' to '' (two single ' characters and not one )

Hi erland,

thanks for all the support, I really appreciate it.

In the plugin history entries is twice number of songs (30K vs 15K), so
that's good.

I did customise the SQL so I'll make the changes you suggest, thanks

I also use the iTunes Import part of Custom Scan, will this be affected
in the same way do you know?

Hm, since the only difference is the userInterfaceIdiom thing I
believe it's a problem with the plugin, please let Triode know.
Maybe he doesn't filter out excess parameters as he should do or does
special handling for iPeng that breaks something in this case.
Actually I wonder whether this might also be the reason for some of the

I guess I should be honest, I don't think I've ever tested iTunes
Import in 7.6, so I don't know how and if it works. I was a bit
surprised Logitech release 7.6 already now, 2 weeks ago it sounded like
the plan was to release it in September or October so I thought I'd have
plenty of time testing my plugins before they were ready to release it.

The iTunes import doesn't have exactly the same logic as the restore so
it might work differently.

Let me know if you get any problems with it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2011-07-27 Thread justlen

Hi;

I noticed that my weather wasn't loading anymore so I updated to SDT
5.9.8. After updating my squeezebox screens are blank and when I check
the server it reports for SDT plugin failed to load.

-Mac OS 10.5.8
-Squeezebox Server 7.5.1
-SDT 5.9.8

I put the new SDT plugin in this directory, the same place I always
have:

~/Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefpane/Contents/server/Plugins

I've tried to restart the server with SDT disabled, but in the server
plugin page the option to disable the plugin is grayed out. I've also
tried to clear the cache via the System Preferences pane.

Any ideas?

No I don't think that should be necessary it should be clean if you
just upgraded to 7.6 as 7.6 creates a new fresh database.

Not at the moment.

If you like to ensure TrackStat data is ok, you can install the
Database Query plugin and look at its TrackStat Statistics query.
In a setup that has been using TrackStat for a while the Number of
history entries entry should be considerably higher than the Number
of songs entry.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC Iplayer plugin not showing song titles

Before the recent update to Triode's plugin or perhaps before I upgraded

currently placing on stations such as 6music.

That information is no longer displayed. Does anyone know if this is
because the BBC stream no longer contains this information? Or is it
something that needs to be fixed in the iPlayer plugin?

With version 7.6 it is now possible to put plugins in the My Apps menu.
There is a preference on the settings page for BBCiPlayer which selects
whether iPlayer is put in My Apps or the Internet Radio menu.

When I first introduced this, the default for 7.6 was for My Apps,
based on feedback I changed this, but I suspect that if you installed

My Apps may have stuck. Please change the setting on the settings page

Since you use iPeng, you must have an iThing. What I do is open the

go to Spotify Playlists from your Squeeze menus, it should show up
after a few seconds. You may need to start at the main Spotify menu to
have it refresh the playlists. Kind of annoying to have to do a
workaround, but it's something.

the enhanced Plugins tab on SBS Settings). It's much more reliable than
manually unzipping the SDT files somewhere. And don't worry, your

That did the trick... thanks!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2011-07-27 Thread Phil Meyer
If anyone else reading this who is using 7.6 and Windows have tried
restoring TrackStat backups, please let us know if you have same issues
as Chunkywizard or if it worked for you. I'd like to know if there is
something in the setup causing this or if it's something happening in
all Windows installations.

I haven't tried restoring a TrackStat backup into 7.6 - I'm not ready to start
using 7.6 for normal use yet - too many bugs for me still.

However, I did notice that when the Scanner logs scan-time progress, it used to
report paths to files as:

[00:23:42.7929] Slim::Utils::Scanner::scanDirectory (333) Scanning:
M:\Music\Phil's Music\Electronic\Michael Hoenig\Baldurs Gate\10 - The
Gibberling Horde.mp3

But now they are listed as:

[23:03:12.1708] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Local::new (677) Handling new track
file:///M:/Music/Phil%27s%20Music/Rock/Wishbone%20Ash/New%20England/03%20-%20Runaway.mp3

So maybe there's a difference in how file paths are stored in the DB, which
affects path detecting in TrackStat Restore?

This is also annoying for the log format now, as I used to be able to cut and
paste the file path for a problematic file into an explorer window to
investigate/re-tag. Now I have to manually decde the file moniker into a valid
Windows file path.

 suspend the
server and then wake it up prior to the alarm/EOD. SCPowerTool.exe is
still there in the background, in a sleeping state waiting for it's
system timer to fire and wake the system. I suppose I should really
modify the scpowertool source code so that it can decide if that timer
is still needed if it senses a wake-up and exit cleanly. But in the
mean time, here is a simple work around:

As far as I know, there is no kill command native to windows. But
if you get the free SysInternals utilities from Microsoft, there is
pskill.exe which can do in a spurious instance of scpowertool.exe.
Basically, in the SrvrPowerCtrl settings, you'd set the On-wakeup
Actions-Optional on-wakeup command to something like:

Code:

  c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe start /B starthidden.exe pskill.exe
scpowertool.exe

..or something. I haven't tested this. Care to be the guinea pig?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan speed

2011-07-27 Thread Daverz

Here's last night's scan with SBS 7.6 and CS v2.8.3378:

[11-07-27 01:42:26.0290] Plugins::CustomScan::Scanner::initTrackScan
(1413) Got 59491 tracks

[...]

[11-07-27 04:07:03.2186] Plugins::CustomScan::Scanner::exitScan (1048)
Rescan finished

Which is under 2.5 hours.

Without the trick mentioned earlier in the thread, previous scan times
with SBS 7.5 were at least 10 hours, which was ridiculous, especially
if you only have a few things to add to the menus. 2.5 hours is back
in the realm of reasonable for 60k tracks.

Custom Browse is also much zippier.

So my thanks to Erland for the new work on CB and CS.

sequence if Automatically detect changes is enabled as that could
take hours in a large library.

An incremental Custom scan would be a dream.
I hope Logitech realise how valuable you are to them and all of us.
I'm not sure how but automatically detected incremental scans are now
triggering the Custom Scan
I suspect I have fiddled my way to something unexpected?

Before discovering I apparently don't need it, the workaround you
suggested was easy enough to achieve. I enabled the Automatically
detect changes box and then pinned the Custom Scan frame in Firefox so
it was really only two extra clicks to achieve.
I'm using the Rating WMP tag as you guessed.
At the time I started it seemed easier to drag the ratings in to the
Squeezebox environment rather then push them out despite my wishes for
the opposite.
My ReadyNAS does spend a fair bit of time churning through scans, but
other than managing torrents and the Squeezebox it's not required for
much else during listening hours.

Thanks for reporting, should be fixed in the Custom Scan 2.8.3383
release I just published.

Just for information, related to this, I had to temporarily disable the
LastFM similar artists related SQL Playlist templates and mixes in 7.6
because I haven't figured out how to combine union and order by
random() with SQLite yet. But the Custom Browse related problems
should work with the above Custom Scan release.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] TrackStat restore on SBS 7.6

If you like to ensure TrackStat data is ok, you can install the
Database Query plugin and look at its TrackStat Statistics query.
In a setup that has been using TrackStat for a while the Number of
history entries entry should be considerably higher than the Number
 of songs entry.

Great thanks for the tip :)
