The PB 140 I once owned did that same thing. There's a reset button on
the 140 I used - not sure if the180 has the same thing. Pinhole on the
far right as you're looking at the back of the PB if memory serves.

Dear List,
Any good sources for a screen replacement for a PB 5300cs and an HD
for my PB 190? By the way. I was given the 5300cs because the screen
wouldn't work (just a blue screen). And using an external monitor
didn't help because I could only see the edge of a couple of icons.
Then it was
Hi

Does anyone know how high an OS can be installed
without updating the HDD driver? Currently using the
7.6 driver with OS 8.1., using a non-Apple HDD.
I still have the original 1.3 Gig (PB 3400).
Thanks

Guys-
Can I safely use my 3400c's Li-ion batteries (I have 4 1/2
good ones) in a 5300? I have my 3400c as well as an
external double-bay charger to charge the batteries, if
there is some problem with charging them in a 5300.

IIRC, the PB3400 battery will power up the 5300 quite well. However, I am

Thanks, Eric. That OS 9 tidbit might explain the
problems I had with booting from the internal HDD with
a partition that used OS 9 with updated driver.

To all who sent me excellent suggestions, I'm happy to say that my 180
is working now. I was using the wrong power adapter. I guess it wasn't
giving the poor book enough juice. I switched back to the other one,
and it's powering up just fine. Is there any way to recondition this

What I'd love to know - what part of the OS checks for battery type, and
how does it do it? An interesting hack would enable Li-ion battery
charging in later OSes. IIRC, the burning-5300 phenom associated with
pre-production 5300s was caused by a defective batch of early Li-ion
batteries, scaring

PBs 5300/190 will run fine from a Li-ion battery but as you mention will
not charge inside. Runtime on a 5300 with a Li-ion battery can be simply
amazing. I tested a 3400 battery in a 5300cs and IIRC got over 6 hours
