I use the SysInternal tools Procmon.exe
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645 and set filter to
only include the data files. This will give you an idea of what programs may
be accessing the data files when your program is.

I've had customers set Carbonite to do the same, and yet files continued to
be touched by it. Process Monitor proved it. They may not have been using
the business version.
