A short update. I am continuing on with the Writer and Sidebar test cases.

I'll be back in touch after that and we can discuss how to organize/use
these manual tests.

A few other information tidbits.

When you save the "Print View" version, you will actually be saving 2
files -- the html of the actual test case instructions, and a
directory that has just a style sheet in it. At some point we can just
delete the style sheet info because the pages render fine without it.

In MANY cases, you can not even see the test case instructions unless
you use the "Print View" button.

I've finished exporting cases through the "Fidelity" folder. I will move

I do realize the file namings etc might be a mess for a bit. In a few

you can apply for a guest account. After that, once you log in, you

testproject2 (mostly Mac related).

Currently, I have finished extracting cases through the section

AOO Calc (220) and am going to start on Fidelity (255). We could use
some additional help on extracting cases in sections past Fidelity --
Drawing, Impress, Installation, Sidebar, etc.

If you want to help with case extractions, here are further
instructions.

1. Choose "Apache OpenOffice testproject", then "Browse Test Cases"
from the left menu, you will see a tree of test cases (toward the
bottom of the page and attached to this message).
Note the total number is 1690. Yes, that's a lot. The number next to
each element in the tree is the number of cases in a given sub-section.

2. Continually expanding each subsection will finally lead to
individual test case descriptions/instructions. Clicking on an
individual "case" brings up the actual text of the case (most of the
time) along with a "Print View" option for each case.

3. Use the Print View option to save each case somewhere on your
system.

We will need to discuss further what to do with these  at some point.

My main goal was to extract the manual test cases for AOO to continue to
use.

TestLink is a nice environment because it allows for manual testing by QA
folks with a way to store testing results, etc. Additionally, it provides
a way to setup the automatic testing, with results also stored there.
I have not read the complete user's guide on TestLink so I am no expert.

My preliminary investigation into how the AOO TestLink instrance was
established led me to believe that one of the AOO PMC members was in
contact with Adfinis, who "donated" the platform ( Ic ouldn't fidn any
specific information on this). I don't know who actually installed the
TestLink instance. I do know that some of the IBM QA team administered it
and ported the manual test cases to it. QA participants were able to apply
for TestLink accounts and report results.

TestLink is useful. But, as others have expressed, setting up and using it
really should be on an ASF platform. And it requires an admin. I think we
could accomplish similar results by porting the manual test cases into BZ
-- probably in category blocks -- and pointing QA volunteers to these test
cases. This would allow for feedback, but the feedback would be in BZ.

A bulk export would still be convenient, so I hope we can get Adfinis to
pay some attention (but I remember you tried to contact them already).

I have more ideas on how to store and use them, but this could come

Need HELP! with brute force extraction of TestLink cases...

2018-02-12 Thread Kay Schenk
Hello all--

After working on saving some of our case on the now mostly inaccessible
TestLink instance, I'm sending out a HELP message! Extractions can be done
with a guest account.

If you go to:

http://aootesting.adfinis-sygroup.org/login.php?note=expired

you can apply for a guest account. After that, once you log in, you will
see 2 test "projects" related to Apache OpenOffice -- Apache OpenOffice
testproject (the main one) and, Apache OpenOffice testproject2 (mostly Mac
related).

Currently, I have finished extracting cases through the section entitled --
AOO Calc (220) and am going to start on Fidelity (255). We could use some
additional help on extracting cases in sections past Fidelity -- Drawing,
Impress, Installation, Sidebar, etc.

If you want to help with case extractions, here are further instructions.

1. Choose "Apache OpenOffice testproject", then "Browse Test Cases" from
the left menu, you will see a tree of test cases (toward the bottom of the
page and attached to this message).
Note the total number is 1690. Yes, that's a lot. The number next to each
element in the tree is the number of cases in a given sub-section.

2. Continually expanding each subsection will finally lead to individual
test case descriptions/instructions. Clicking on an individual "case"
brings up the actual text of the case (most of the time) along with a
"Print View" option for each case.

3. Use the Print View option to save each case somewhere on your system.

We will need to discuss further what to do with these at some point.

Another quick update about this. It seems you can bring up "test cases"

going through the cases using this appraoch and saving them
individually. When I've got this complete, I will upload them to the wiki.

The idea is simply to get hold of the Testlink system and all testcases
it already contains (so that we can make a backup of them, just in

at all, but apparently it is good enough and it would simply need to be

Is there also a new tool like a testtool available where we can crate

admin for our TestLink instance who would then be responsible for
general
oversight of this platform including adding users, etc.

Recently, I setup a guest account and had a look around. It seems SOME
tests are continuing to be run automatically (bvt, etc.), but they are
referencing the old 4.0.x series and I have no knowledge of how any of
this
is setup.

* Is there any interest in salvaging the existing test cases (manual
write-ups) from the TestLink system and porting them to the AOO svn
tree
under "/test" with a new sub-are named "manual_tests" or something
similar.

The manual test cases most recently pertained to 4.0.x but I'm sure
they
could continue to be used for the 4.1.x and 4.2.x series.

Hi Kay,

I hope to one day soon try my hand at some QA.

I just looked around TestLink and it looks interesting.
Is this web service donated to the project?

Is there a risk of loosing this information somehow?

Thanks,
Carl

Carl, I don't really know the answer to your first question about

donation of the Testlink platform to AOO.

Yuzhen Fan, a current committer and PMC member, seems to be the last
administrator of
Testlink with the Adfinis group, and may have some answers on this.

On the second question. Although there are some test cases ported to the
AOO user wiki, we would be wise to collect up the test cases on the
Testlink platform as soon as we can for safekeeping.

Previously, I was only involved in QA as a tester.

A slight clarification on this response.

The TestLink instance on
   http://aootesting.adfinis-sygroup.org/
was setup and administered by members of the QA area initially, all PMC
members.

Some AOO committers involved in QA, myself included, had administrative
capabilities within the AOO TestLink instance but not the actual instance
itself.

Hi Kay,

Thanks for the clarification.

I agree that having important information such as this only outside of
Apache controlled assets is a risk.

I would be good if they have a way to export them so we at least maintain
a copy.

I can also see the benefit of the service being maintained as long as it's
available to us.

Best regards,
Carl

Re: Testing: Is there any interest in the old TestLink system and/or test cases?

2018-01-31 Thread DurgaPrasad Potnuru
it should be possible to export test cases from test link to OOCalc. Check
below links.

http://demo.testlink.org/latest/docs/tl-file-formats.pdf
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/19003017/testlink-export-complete-test-cases-into-openoffice

As such testlink is a very handy tool I believe, but I also agree we need
to take a call whether we continue to use it otherwise migrate the valuable
test cases data into platform in use.
If we are migrating we need to take a call of what to do with whether
1)shall we update User wiki at
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/QA/TestCases/#AOO_3.4_General_Testing_Test_Cases
or
2)keep the test cases Calc sheet for ready reference.
<>

In the end, I believe we need to have all test cases in one place with some
IDs where all QA volunteers can share them and run the test cases.

QA - TestLink permissions to execute manual tests

2015-03-04 Thread Andrew
Hi,
I was going through the QA Level 3 module, and was wanting to run some manual
tests. I created an account in testlink. The account name is andchaikin.
I have permissions to search existing test cases, but not sufficient
permissions in order to execute any manual tests. That extra section for
executing tests does not appear when logged in like in the example demo video.
Can you give me permissions to be able to execute manual tests.
Thank you so much,

Andrew.

2013-05-30 Thread Yuzhen Fan
Dear Volunteers,

First, thank you all for your effort that we have now completed 713 test
executions in TestLink, which cover Windows, Linux and Mac.

Our target is to complete *1000 *test executions before *June 6*, please
continue working on your assigned test executions and try to complete as
much as possible.

It is a great community here, if we do a little bit more then we will get
an awesome achievement. Thanks!!

Regards,
Yu Zhen

QA REPORT Testlink

2013-04-23 Thread Diego Valle Rosado
Hello all,

My name's Diego Valle, I'm QA volunteer in sidebar testing on trunk build.
Doing Testlink I got this resrult.

on Page Panel for Writer. I reproduced 9 tests cases. All tests case were
reproduced successfully.

On Area Panel for impress, I reproduced 19 tests cases of which were 2
were failed:

ID AOOTest-1426
ID AOOTest-1427

AOO crashes when I tried to delete the color that the object (drawing
object or a text box) was currently filled, on 'Colors' Area properties
dialog.
After that the AOO closes the documents could not be recovered.

On text properties for impress. I reproduced 17 tests cases which 7 were
failed.

ID AOOTest-1536 in this test cases, when I change of Outline view to Normal
view, the values of font names wasn't correctly updated, it doesn't matter
if there are more than one font names in selected text box.

ID AOOTest-1538 in this cases, I inserted a text box, then I inserted some
texts into it and I selected some texts and I edit it, but when I exit text
box editing mode, the value of Font size was not correctly updated. The
value wasn't blank and the two icons were not disabled if there are more
than one values in selected text box.

ID AOOTest-1540
ID AOOTest-1544
ID AOOTest-1547
ID AOOTest-1550
ID AOOTest-1551

In these test cases weren't reproduced correctly, because when I tried to
insert a table, AOO crashes, and the documents could not be recovered.

To contribute on testlink doing test in sidebar testing was a great
experience for me, and I going to participate in QA doing regressions on
Thursday.

Hi Daniel,

In my understanding, the first case 1161 its primary target is on table
undo/redo action, in the second case 1162 its target is on table style
change which should not be changed if modify tale option.

In general, we may use same steps to create a similar test object, but
the test purpose may difference.

  - How I can start?
  -- What subject?

 Sure.

When we have builds of OpenOffice 4.0 that have new features, and are
stable, then we will run the manual test cases defined in Testlink.
 These tests are two kinds:

 1) Tests of new features that have been added to AOO 4.0. New code
tends to have more bugs, so we'll give them a lot of attention. We'll
need to define the test cases first, of course.

 2) Tests of existing features, even if they are not being modified for
4.0. This is called regression testing. We're looking for
regressions, or things that were working before but now are broken.
Why? Because academic studies have shown that 25% of defects come
from introducing new bugs by changing other code.

But we're not quite there. Most of the test cases were defined by
project volunteers in China, and they are going away for their Chinese
New Year celebration. My guess is we'll start the AOO 4.0 testing in
 another 10 days or so.

So until that time, you don't need to touch Testlink at all. Right
now we're focusing on reviewing bug reports on the already released
versions of OpenOffice, including 3.4.1, 3.4.0, 3.3.0, etc. This is
the work described as Easy QA Task: Confirm New Defect Reports here:

Thanks for the video! I'm new here. I have a couple of questions:

   1. For the test plan selection at 30sec, [1], what are the differences
between 'AOO 4.0 Milestone 1 Regression' vs 'Practical Test Cycle'?

Practical Test Cycle: this plan is private plan for beginner do some
practice, you can do anything you want here, this is not a real test plan
  for AOO.
AOO 4.0 Milestone 1 Regression: this plan is a real product plan, We
excuse test case and log result for AOO 4.0 M1 in this plan.

   2. The test case you chose is automated ([2]). The video says 'Select
the cases and run it': Are we to execute the .java file for automated
tests or should I execute the .java and do those steps?

If you pick up automation case run task, you should chose Automated in
Execution type, it will query Automated test case.
From the test case we can find which .java file cover this automatic test
  case.
Then check out the script from SVN, automatic run it and log result.

If you pick up manual case run task, you should chose Manual in
Execution type, it will query Manual test case.

In the Video, I miss the steps select Manual in Execution type, if add
this step, it will more clear.

I discussed the *manual* execution of automated tests with Ji Yan a few
days ago and he made a very good point about this:

For automated test case, in my experience, when experienced tester
 execute same test case,
he may use different way or setting to test it, but with automation
script, it always use the same
step, so with variety of input we may test the function more completely.
  IMHO, manual test the
  automated case is still reasonable.

   Thanks a bunch Terry.
Now when you say check out the script from svn, that would be the Java
file? Are there any dependencies on building one of those? I should just
   try it...

   Thanks

Thanks for the video! I'm new here. I have a couple of questions:

 1. For the test plan selection at 30sec, [1], what are the
  differences
between 'AOO 4.0 Milestone 1 Regression' vs 'Practical Test Cycle'?

Practical Test Cycle: this plan is private plan for beginner do some
practice, you can do anything you want here, this is not a real test
  plan

From the test case we can find which .java file cover this automatic
  test
case.
Then check out the script from SVN, automatic run it and log result.

If you pick up manual case run task, you should chose Manual in
Execution type, it will query Manual test case.

In the Video, I miss the steps select Manual in Execution type, if
  add
this step, it will more clear.

 Hi,
I will try to add balloon for current Video.
If you have any idea about the video content please ping me, hope we can add
more and more Video to make the beginner easy to learn and use TestLink.

I would recomend trying to use screenr.com which allows to do
screencasting from the brower on a vry easy manner exporting it to
youtube.

This is a very streamline way to do develop small videos like this and
combined with youtube video editor it can be useful enough.

 Thanks,
 Terry

trying out testlink system. What to do when you find something else wrong than what the test is aimed at?

2012-11-22 Thread Georges Bolssens
Hi,

I was fiddling around with the Testlink system and started testing on
AOOTest100 : Table Cell Protect.

When I protect a cell and try to *type* something into it, I get a dialog
that tells me that I can't because of the protection.

However, when I try to *paste* something in there, there's no dialog with
an error.

I realize that this wasn't what the test was about, but nevertheless I
think it would be better to trigger the dialog when pasting text also.

How do I address this? Is this simply not my call to make and do I run the
test as intended, or do I propose this change to the dev-list?
