TestLink is a nice environment because it allows for manual testing by QA folks with a way to store testing results, etc. Additionally, it provides a way to setup the automatic testing, with results also stored there. I have not read the complete user's guide on TestLink so I am no expert. My preliminary investigation into how the AOO TestLink instrance was established led me to believe that one of the AOO PMC members was in contact with Adfinis, who "donated" the platform ( Ic ouldn't fidn any specific information on this). I don't know who actually installed the TestLink instance. I do know that some of the IBM QA team administered it and ported the manual test cases to it. QA participants were able to apply for TestLink accounts and report results. TestLink is useful. But, as others have expressed, setting up and using it really should be on an ASF platform. And it requires an admin. I think we could accomplish similar results by porting the manual test cases into BZ -- probably in category blocks -- and pointing QA volunteers to these test cases. This would allow for feedback, but the feedback would be in BZ. > > Licensing? Need HELP! with brute force extraction of TestLink cases...
Hello all-- After working on saving some of our case on the now mostly inaccessible TestLink instance, I'm sending out a HELP message! Extractions can be done with a guest account. If you go to: http://aootesting.adfinis-sygroup.org/login.php?note=expired you can apply for a guest account. After that, once you log in, you will see 2 test "projects" related to Apache OpenOffice -- Apache OpenOffice testproject (the main one) and, Apache OpenOffice testproject2 (mostly Mac related). Currently, I have finished extracting cases through the section entitled -- AOO Calc (220) and am going to start on Fidelity (255). We could use some additional help on extracting cases in sections past Fidelity -- Drawing, Impress, Installation, Sidebar, etc. If you want to help with case extractions, here are further instructions. 1. Choose "Apache OpenOffice testproject", then "Browse Test Cases" from the left menu, you will see a tree of test cases (toward the bottom of the page and attached to this message). Note the total number is 1690. Yes, that's a lot. The number next to each element in the tree is the number of cases in a given sub-section. 2. Continually expanding each subsection will finally lead to individual test case descriptions/instructions. Clicking on an individual "case" brings up the actual text of the case (most of the time) along with a "Print View" option for each case. 3. Use the Print View option to save each case somewhere on your system. We will need to discuss further what to do with these at some point. I just looked around TestLink and it looks interesting. Is this web service donated to the project? Is there a risk of loosing this information somehow? Thanks, Carl Carl, I don't really know the answer to your first question about donation of the Testlink platform to AOO. Yuzhen Fan, a current committer and PMC member, seems to be the last administrator of Testlink with the Adfinis group, and may have some answers on this. On the second question. Although there are some test cases ported to the AOO user wiki, we would be wise to collect up the test cases on the Testlink platform as soon as we can for safekeeping. Previously, I was only involved in QA as a tester. A slight clarification on this response. The TestLink instance on http://aootesting.adfinis-sygroup.org/ was setup and administered by members of the QA area initially, all PMC members. Some AOO committers involved in QA, myself included, had administrative capabilities within the AOO TestLink instance but not the actual instance itself. Hi Kay, Thanks for the clarification. I agree that having important information such as this only outside of Apache controlled assets is a risk. I would be good if they have a way to export them so we at least maintain a copy. I can also see the benefit of the service being maintained as long as it's available to us. [QA] Testlink Guest Account
Hi, My name is Theodore Matula and I would like to start running test cases on TestLink. I already made an account, but my account only has Guest privileges. Do I have to request for test cases to be assigned to me? Any advice on the next steps would be appreciated. My TestLink username is buddymatula incase it is needed. Sincerely, Theodore Matula
QA - TestLink permissions to execute manual tests
Hi, I was going through the QA Level 3 module, and was wanting to run some manual tests. I created an account in testlink. The account name is andchaikin. I have permissions to search existing test cases, but not sufficient permissions in order to execute any manual tests. That extra section for executing tests does not appear when logged in like in the example demo video. Can you give me permissions to be able to execute manual tests. Thank you so much, Andrew.
Why still testlink 1.9.3 ?
hi my name is Francisco Mnacardi, I'm the team leader and main developer of test link. I've seen that you are still using version 1.9.3, IMHO you will be more happy using latest code from gitorious. Daniel, It is because your authority is guest not leader. I'll upgrade your authority to leader, then you can see other options. Thanks for your support for AOO project. Hope you still support on our later test. Hi Yurggent, I suppose you are talking about user guide of test link, right? You can find a general user guide from left bottom frame of home page [1]. thanks Rob, I will follow these steps and if there are more doubts I will write again. Someone who is doing something related to this would kindly give me guidance on: - What do I do now? - How I can start? -- What subject? Sure. When we have builds of OpenOffice 4.0 that have new features, and are stable, then we will run the manual test cases defined in Testlink. These tests are two kinds: 1) Tests of new features that have been added to AOO 4.0. New code tends to have more bugs, so we'll give them a lot of attention. We'll need to define the test cases first, of course. 2) Tests of existing features, even if they are not being modified for 4.0. This is called regression testing. We're looking for regressions, or things that were working before but now are broken. Why? Because academic studies have shown that 25% of defects come from introducing new bugs by changing other code. But we're not quite there. Most of the test cases were defined by project volunteers in China, and they are going away for their Chinese New Year celebration. My guess is we'll start the AOO 4.0 testing in another 10 days or so. So until that time, you don't need to touch Testlink at all. Right now we're focusing on reviewing bug reports on the already released versions of OpenOffice, including 3.4.1, 3.4.0, 3.3.0, etc. This is the work described as Easy QA Task: Confirm New Defect Reports here: http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/intro-qa.html Regards, -Rob all this questions are about of test cases. thanks in advance. IMHO, manual test the automated case is still reasonable. trying out testlink system. What to do when you find something else wrong than what the test is aimed at?
Hi, I was fiddling around with the Testlink system and started testing on AOOTest100 : Table Cell Protect. When I protect a cell and try to *type* something into it, I get a dialog that tells me that I can't because of the protection. However, when I try to *paste* something in there, there's no dialog with an error. I realize that this wasn't what the test was about, but nevertheless I think it would be better to trigger the dialog when pasting text also. How do I address this? Is this simply not my call to make and do I run the test as intended, or do I propose this change to the dev-list?
