I want to set up a web proxy in a Debian-based AppVM but I don't want to do
it in the template VM as last time I tried that I screwed lots of things up
and it was never the same again.
I don't mind if it's not persistent because I am just experimenting.

A clean install of 3.2 failed at the configuration stage so I am creating and
configuring the sys-net, sys-firewall sys-whonix and all appVMs manually.
Can someone tell me what difference the following settings will make:
- Initial memory min / max. I'm going for 500/3000 fo0r all as I have 8GB

For some reason the debian template didn't install when I installed Qubes, even
though I selected it. No matter I thought, I'll do it manually.
However following the instructions here:

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have an i7 machine, installing to a USB stick.
Strangely, last time I tried (this is my second installation on the same USB
having borked the first) debian-8 *did* install so it's obviously a very quirky
bug. Whonix installed OK although it seems very slow

Yes I can confirm debian-8 is there. I'll ignore for now and wait til the next

I just installed RC2 for the first time, ticking the 'enable Tor' box
corresponding to the Whonix template. After booting and connecting to WiFi I
was surprised to note that the Whonix Gateway started with the 'connecting to
Tor' dialog when I started the Fedora-25 template to update it. So it
I must have done something else because I got error messages when I tried to
reset the firewall and sys-net VMs, so rather than spending any more time
fiddling around I reinstalled and was more careful about the boxes I checked.
While it's a good idea to have the option of seting update
Qubes R4 rc4 on USB 3.0 stick - no problems to report
