I have stopped and started things several times and now I have a player

the 'Additional Playlist Buttons' box. I'll build a couple of playlist

OK so I'll hold off on 7.8 for the time being. But this does raise the
question of how easy/difficult a new release is to install? Can it go
right over top of the currently installed version? Do I lose any custom
settings or setup parameters?
Yes, it just installs over top
Hi garym;
Thanks for the reply. I am implementing your suggestions. The crossfade
thing was already set to none. I don't have LAME installed (yet?) so
the 'bitrate limiting' parameter is greyed out. Before I get into how
little I know about LMS Squeezebox let me tell you about my .flac
music
Unlike some other systems, LMS has a Current Playlist that is an ad
hoc play list to which you can add single tracks, multiple tracks,
albums, even radio stations, to at any time.
I don't have a Duet with Controller, so can't really tell you how to add
tracks using the Controller, but I'm sure
good advice for making playlists within the LMS webGUI. Once you're
happy with the basics described above, you might want to add the plugin
(LMS SETTINGS Plugins, tick the show all 3rd party plugins and
then tick Playlist Manager (v6.0) by Phillip Meyer. This will give you
a few more playlist
It might also be worth trying the beta 7.8 version of LMS. That has an
option for defeat destructive play which instead of clearing a
playlist and plating a track if you accidentally single tap it gives you
a pop up to add to playlist, play next or play

is defeat destructive play an option somewhere that is set? Don't see

I've never seen it either. Is it a SqueezePlay option?

It's in the player menu in LMS settings, I don't have a Duet myself but
see no reason why that won't have the same options.
Its a per player setting so needs setting for each player if you have
more than 1

Ok. I see it, but only for the Touch
I've got this post in the wrong place, sorry. How should I move it or
will some moderator please move it for me, thanks. It belongs in the
Duet forum.
That aside I now own a Duet, and I've got it working. It's a little
rough around the edges but it is playing my existing .flac library, I'm

The Touch is thought by many to have better sound quality, but I have a
feeling that you may be perfectly happy with either the Squeezebox 2 or
Squeezebox 3 (aka Squeezebox Classic). The SB2 and SB3/Classic differ a
little in their cosmetics, but they're virtually identical in their

In a world where Logitech knew what it had with Squeezebox and the
wonderful devices you named were still being made and advertised, I
would completely agree
If you don't mind purchasing a system with limited future official
support from Logitech and you do not mind tinkering with software and
some basic DIY, then the above advice is good. However, if you want a
system with future official support, want plug and play, and do not need

Welcome, and glad to hear you're not scared off by Logitech's dumping of
the SB line. It's still a great system.
The wiki is a good place to start. Some of the entries are not

Your description is exactly how I use my 2 Squeezebox Touches. The Touch
is the hardware I would recommend for your purpose. When going through
the Beginner's Guide as aubuti suggested below pay special attention to
the tagging section if you are not familiar w that process. It is
critical.
I did a search using 'beginner' and 'startup', neither one returned any
