They may be slow, but only if you're doing this ride in 4 days. In that case, speed might matter. We've done this ride a handful of times, in both directions, and over different time frames. I highly recommend it. You'll have a great time. The scenery and history of the area is wonderful.

Don't own a 52cm Sam, but I'm fairly certain the 57.5cm TT length listed in the geometry chart IS the effective horizontal TT. There's a note at the top of the geometry charts that reads: In cases of 6-degree upslope, we've included only the theoretical tt length.
