A bump is when the thing doesn't sell so you put another plug in for it. I recently had a bike that I bumped about once a week for a few weeks then gave up, which I think is what Jim is looking for: Post it, give it 2 or 3 weekly shots, then come up with a new plan like Craigslist or whatever

I tend to lurk more than post, but when i do, I try to temper FS posts with normal content posts as well. That said, I think buying and selling, whether we like it or not, is a main driver of visitors. I think if you limit it too much, you lose a big source of potential new participators.
