Patrick is pretty close on this one. I can't tell a difference between a 23" low gear and 25" low gear on different bikes. I can tell a difference in 4-5" steps in that range. Also pointing out again, it's a 400' climb at the end of my ride to get home, and the grade his 14% in 4 spots.

Depends on where you're coming from! If you've got a stump-pullingly low 19 inch low gear (say a triple in the front with a 24 tooth small chainring and a 34 tooth big cog on your cassette) then that's a 7% difference. You could probably feel that, and might even want it sometimes. If you've got

unless I was considering a long trip, through puncturous land, i would probably opt for a different tire. There are some really nice ones in the 40mm range that will make your sam feel excellent. I also am of the belief that most rivs should ever wear a tire less than 40mm. but that's just me.

When Riv 1st came out with this the idea really appealed to me. Since I already had the triple I bought the guard and 40 T ring and put it together myself. I was using a 9 speed 11-34 cassette at the time so that essentially gave my 1X9 for every day and the lower range if and when needed.
