Just for a point of clarity, Rivendell sells a triple crank with a chain guard and two rings (middle and granny) in a couple of configurations. They do not sell a sub-compact double. Some of the other cranks mentioned here are doubles that allow small ring (outer and inner) combinations. --

The 1993 XO-2 has very tight clearance by current standards which is what instigated the initial fork project. The XO-2 I had was basically NOS and I also ended up with a 1994 XO-3 that had seen some use. I treated the XO-2 too preciously and I wanted a daily driver which is why I kept the XO-3.

Utah Trikes has FSA Gossamer cranks in 165. 52-39-30 isn't what most of us are looking for, but you can ditch (or just not shift to) the 52 and replace the 30t with a 24. They also have a couple cranks in 152 which is what I use. Shorty cranks are awesome!
