I sat back and waited for all the responses, and you're on the right track.
I've done this using band pass cavities on both UHF and VHF.
The only error is that you should not terminate the cavity with a 50 ohm
load. You will be able to see the difference (terminated, then
unterminated),

Pulling from old memory cells, I think the RBI-1 pulls the COR from a serial
data stream connected through the Microphone Jack. I don't believe there is
a graceful way of pulling the data off a pin somewhere.

You just happen to have one of the series of duplexers that does not make it
all the way down into the bottom of the ham band at 440.xxx Mhz.
If it truly is the Motorola duplexer out of the MSR2000 series repeaters,
they - in fact - do not tune down to the bottom of the band. The
I'm not so sure you have it right yet..
Now you have audio that is not processed, which will bring another wave of
100 helpers.
Don't rush it to the hill. Burn it in - listen to the audio. You may need
some de-emphasis now. Then the old .2 cap and 15K argument will start.
