Hey, I know this one!
Thomas, there is a set of AppleScripts that you can install from the client
CD-ROM. One of them does just what you want--though invisibly. You won't see
it open the control panel or make settings. Run it, and your machine will be
backed up "ASAP." (You can check afterward in
Hi,
Is there a way to applescript the Retrospect control panel?
What I need to do is to be able to simply run a script that would do the following
manual items.
Open Retrospect Control Panel
Click on Preferences
Click on Schedule
Click on ASAP
Close all down.
This is a pain to do manually.
Phil,
Yes, any Retrospect-supported CD-R/W drive can read CD-R/W backup sets.

We just purchased the HP SureStore DLT Autoloader 418 and we are very
happy with it. I'm running it on an upgraded 8100, OS 8.6
You'll need the Advanced Driver Kit for it though.

Luke,
The Ecrix VXA drives are great! They also have I believe two different
auto-loaders coming out soon. I see if I can forward you some information
about these.

Arnold,
Make sure you're running the correct updater. There are two 4.2 updaters on
the Dantz Updates page, one for Retrospect Desktop and Workgroup, and one
for Retrospect Express.
If you're sure you're using the correct 4.2 updater, please try reinstalling
Retrospect Express from the original

Hi,
I downloaded Retrospect Express4.2 Update. While it was in the install
mode I got this message:
"An error prevented the update from completing.
Update Error:
Retrospect Express
11002:2, -14"
I'm running Mac OS 8.6
Thanks...Arnie

I had a similar problem with my Exabyte tape drive for awhile. The
two things I did to help cure the problem were 1) I bought a new,
high quality SCSI cable

If nothing else works maybe restarting
I've learn one main thing about using Retrospect over the last ?12?
years. It will find defective hardware. Start with the SCSI cables. SCSI
termination. Move it to another machine. Or the drive may be going bad.
You didn't mention which exact model of drive you were using.

I'm upgrading a server and need to increase backup capacity as well.
I've been happy with DLT in general but need something bigger now.
Have also considered buying a couple-or-three Ecrix VXA drives, which
might be a cheaper solution.
I thought I read somewhere where you should not leave your CD in your
burner when not in use. Has anyone ever heard that?
If so, what is the reason? Since I only use it for daily backup it
would be much easier to just let the disk stay there.
Your thoughts please.
