Does anyone have a redundant Time Capsule A1409 (4th generation flat
square) they would like to get rid of by any chance?
Thanks.

Yes, also the TCs are woefully slow for backing up. I’d go for a Synology NAS
with 2x4TB HDs in it, like the DS216j. You then get a Time Machine compatible
backup destination and network storage, with an iTunes server built in so you
can store music on it and play direct from within iTunes on yo
It has been reported in the computer press that Apple has disbanded the
development team for routers, which of course includes the Time Capsule.
Personally I would still go for a Time Capsule at the moment, I've had
excellent reliability from several over many years.

Hello Smuggers,
We need to replace the drive we’ve been using for Time Machine back ups and
we’ve been considering getting a Time Capsule. Someone told me that the Time
Capsule is being discontinued. Is this true?
I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for an alternative? We (2

Is there a reason this post had become very difficult to read? The font is so

Thanks Guys. My honest thoughts are that it couldn't handle the addition of the
USB hub and the two extra HD's and it over heated, it's particularly hot here
at the moment too, so I reckon it's either burnt out or will restart when I
reboot it later.
I might have a bash at installing another HD

Cheers Sam, that looks good but it would be good to have a system that's
wireless if poss. Like the idea of it being ultra quick but we both access the
hard drives regularly and it'd be a pain to have to plug a cable in each time.
We deal with a lot of audio files and there's stuff going backwar

Howdy,
My time capsule looks to have given up the ghost. I can't see the network and
have a permanent orange light. What may have done it was plugging in 2
additional external HD's vis a hub, to the TC and it overheated- it was
terribly hot and I did this Friday night so prob not a coincidence
Dear Sam,
Thank you for your explanation, and your help.
It does offer me to reuse a previous backup (I'm on 10.6.5): but not the right
one. It offers my wife's machine's backup. I don't want to damage her backup,
and I can't find a way to access other backups (ie mine).
Any suggestion?
Thank
Hi Ranulph
As your sick mac's probably had a new logicboard, it's seen as a new mac.
Usually if you're running OS 10.6 it'll ask to reuse the previous backup. 10.5
needs a little more technical wizardry to reuse a backup.

I have a repeating problem when I get a machine back from Mac hospital, which
affects my use of time machine and capsule. I wonder if anyone knows a way out
of this. I'm afraid I have to give a bit of background.

Yes.
Our time capsule 'died' suddenly a few months ago. We only bought it 18 months
before. Fortunately the Apple Store in Brighton replaced it without argument.

Hi all,
I have had a WD USB drive attached to my Time Capsule that appears in

Hello all.
Does anyone have any experience using Time Capsule with a 3rd party modem
(d-link, netgear etc) with broadband through a BT connection?
Which modem actually works?
