I've seen ordinary temp fusible link heads operate over second floor build out offices in 24' nominal clear space tilt-ups. This has been during what passes for hot weather in central Puget Sound. I can't confirm 165 or 175f. I've seen this in both enclosed above ceiling area, and in areas

I believe NFPA-13 changed to 200-degree attic heads because the response time between 165 and 200 was very small and there have been more than a few sprinklers in attics that have activated with and without vents. Sprinkler heads that activate when there is no fire hurts all of us. Top Myers

Actually the A.7.2 explicitly states that for areas outside dwelling unit that must apply full 13 design factors, a hose stream is not required. Roland Huggins, PE - Senior VP Engineering American Fire Sprinkler Assn. Dallas, TX http://www.firesprinkler.org

We had this issue in AZ with the interstitial sprinklers. They were only rated at 175F. That is a problem in Arizona attics. They have now come out with 200F sprinklers. I questioned one of the manufacturers at one time and they referred me back to the chart in NFPA 13 that says you must

Todd, Glass bulb or fusible link? I’ve documented 155°F and 165°F sprinklers operating in attics, but I don’t think I’ve seen a 175°F. I’ve also documented fusible link, ordinary temperature-rated sprinklers operating in unconditioned attics. I’m aware that not all attic sprinkler op’s are

I'm going off of memory - which seems to be slipping as I age - but I don't believe NFPA 13R has a hose stream requirement. However, be cautious of that domestic demand. Maybe I get conservative, but if I have a complex with several buildings on a site water line, I add the domestic demand to

Does NFPA 13R require a hose stream demand? Section A.7.2 of NFPA 13R only reference a hose stream demand requirement of NFPA 13. The only additional demand required in a calculation is the domestic demand if there is a common domestic/fire main as referenced in section 9.6 of NFPA 13R. Jay
