Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Setting Unicode on LMS for Windows?
Setting arguments for LMS when it's running as a Windows service is done in the registry, See https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?111436-LMS-not-seeing-files-with-non-Latin-characters-in-the-filename-(Windows)=975914=1#post975914 But it's important to have 8.3 file naming enabled for the disk using the fsutil command, also mentioned in that thread. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114753 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

This registry key is only available for the start mode 'Automatically run at system start'. Which is the recommended way IMHO, because you don't need to login to have LMS running. You can configure this in LMS Control Panel, but you must start it as Administrator (there's a menu in the LMS tray icon for that). If you want to keep your way of starting LMS and if it's configured to start automatically when you login, then do this: - open a file explorer window and type shell:startup in the address bar and press enter. - there should be an entry for LMS. Right-click on it and open the Properties dialog. In the highlighted text field for the executable scroll to the end and add a blank and then the --charset=utf8 string. How do you try to start the Control Panel? From the LMS icon in the system tray? Does the Control Panel hang showing the splash screen or does it stop itself? You could check the running processes using Windows Taskmanager: right-click Windows status bar and select the Task-Manager. When it's up, ensure to have More Details selected in the lower left corner and then switch to the Details tab where you see all running processes. Ensure they're sorted by name and look for processes with names starting with 'squeeze'. The Control Panel would be squeezeboxcp.exe, the server is SqueezeSvr.exe and the tray icon is SqueezeTray.exe. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112012 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

It might be not THAT efficient to load all files and sort them to find and modify just a subset. But it's a no-brainer. Just be patient or do something else while mp3tag is working. :) Having said that, how large is your library and where are the files stored? If the files load slowly with mp3tag there might be a bottleneck that the powershell script will hit too? I'd still recommend mp3tag for this job, but of course you could create a ps script doing the same. Just be careful with file paths that contain special characters. Use the -literalpath option of gci. And btw, the script on the site you've linked to doesn't filter for audio files but will also load artwork or whatever files you might have in addition. Note that the Taglib library that is used in that script can not only deal with mp3 but other audio files as well. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111886 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

What I'd try is setting the LMS root music folder to a newly created folder outside your current music folder and copy an album to it that currently shows duplicates and let it perform a full scan. If this works fine, add one more and let it scan for changed files etc. Looks like you don't use the typical Artist/Album folder structure. So you could try this as well. As soon as you get duplicates again, I'd set the log level for the scanner to debug (see Settings/Advanced/Logging) and see if that shows up something. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111463 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

The file is scanned by a 'look for new & changed files' scan and shown in the 'New Music' section of the library and I can play it. 28915 I can also navigate to it via 'Music Folder' without problems. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS not seeing files with non-Latin characters in the filename (Windows)
I'm running the same LMS version on Win 10 and I have a quite a few of such files and they work flawlessly, like Code: 22 - Bani Adam ( ).flac 02 - Zblia si nowe.flac 02 - Þú Ert Jörðin.flac I vaguely remember there was an issue with Browse Music Folder with such folder names but this is fine now. What are your LMS charset settings? See Settings->Information: Operating system. I used the default charset of cp1252 which used to work fine, but changed to utf8 some time ago. Don't remember why (maybe string sorting issues). And I'm not sure if the '?' in the log message is really unexpected, because I think this is just the console output which uses a different charset. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111436 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Error message when launching LMS from desktop icon
You shouldn't need to start LMS via your desktop shortcut. LMS is running already as shown in the status message in your screenshot (and as the "Abort scan" button indicates, it was scanning your library for new and changed files). You have chosen the startup option "Automatically run at login" so LMS will start when you're logging in to your computer. Usually it's recommended to choose the startup option "Automatically run at system start" so LMS is running even if you're not logged in. As the message in red indicates, you didn't open the LMS control panel with admin rights. This applies to LMS startup options "Automatically run at login" or "Automatically run at system start" where admin rights are required to start & stop LMS. To start the LMS control panel with admin rights either follow the instructions given in this message or click on the LMS icon in the system tray and select "Open Control Panel as Administrator". reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111383 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Administrator Privileges
Are both computers running the same version of Windows, e.g. version 1809? (see Settings->System->Info, scroll down a bit) Are both computers have the same setting for the UAC level? (type UAC in the search field, click the entry for user account control.) Default is the 2nd highest level, which is fine. When you're installing Windows (10) the user account you are specifying during installation will be part of the administrators group. (see Settings->Accounts where "Administrator" should be mentioned below your account name). Although you're an administrator, this doesn't mean you have all the rights to modify things. Instead, dependent on the UAC settings, Windows asks for confirmation if an operation needs administrative privileges. For example, if you are installing a program Windows usually detects automatically that this needs admin rights and prompts you for confirmation. That is, typically you don't need to right-click on the setup program to run it with admin rights from the beginning. Windows will ask for it. When installing LMS (or later using the LMS Control Panel) you can choose the startup option for LMS. Typically you will want to use "Automatically run at system start", which means that you don't need to login to start LMS but simply start the computer. But to set this startup mode, the LMS Control Panel needs admin rights. Nowadays there's a menu entry in LMS' tray icon to start the control panel with admin rights. Alternatively look for the LMS Control Panel entry in Start menu, right-click it and select more->Run as Administrator. Then the red warning message should not appear. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110567 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I've no idea regarding your original issue, but the Thumbs.db file is used by Windows Explorer internally. It's used to cache thumbnail views of images. If Windows doesn't let you delete the folder because Thumbs.db is currently in use, you can try switching to a different folder that contains an image (and maybe switch between details view and icon view of the folder). Usually this lets Windows Explorer close the Thumbs.db in the first folder so you can then delete it. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110356 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Scan Missed a Song
I investigated a bit more and noticed that LMS was using a short file name (the so-called 8.3 name) for the track instead of the long name shown in Windows Explorer. I checked the tracks in my library.db and found that there are a few more where the original file or folder names have some "special" characters in it. Note that I have many albums especially from Northern Europe with lots of foreign characters that don't lead to 8.3 names. There are relatively few artist or track names that lead to this, like Leszek Moder (a Polish jazz pianist). Anyway, I assume this behavior is caused by Perl. So if the file is not added to the library in the OP's case, maybe Windows is configured to not create the 8.3 names at all? This can be checked with the command Code: fsutil 8dot3name query (see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/fsutil-8dot3name) reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109589 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LogitechMediaServer stuttering on Windows 10?
No problems here with LMS on Win10. What does it mean if stuttering occurs? Is the WebUI unresponsive or can players not connect or something else? Start the Windows Taskmanager if stuttering occurs and check CPU and Disk load (which process uses most of them). You can sort the Processes list by clicking the column headers. reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109614 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Someone should correct my if I'm wrong. I think if COMPILATION tag is absent and the tracks of an album contains different artist tags then some LMS logic kicks in and treats it as compilation. Yes, it's on Win10 and indeed it might be occuring after the update from a 7.9 beta to the official 7.9.0 (and still occurs with a more recent 7.9.1). You don't mean Windows Event Viewer, but rather the Process Monitor, right? If so, did you manage to configure the filters as I've proposed? If yes, there shouldn't be too much events and all should be about writing files in the path you've entered. In fact, there's a Windows built-in alternative to the Process Monitor to get the process that has modified a file. It's the Windows security auditing. But IMO it's too complicated to setup appropriately... reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106892 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] "Date modified" being updated by . . . what? "New Music" is thus wrong.
Among the powerful Windows Sysinternals tools there are two that can help you find the culprit. The first is 'Process Explorer' (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processexplorer), a very detailed task manager from which the Windows Task Manager learned a lot in recent versions, and the second is 'Process Monitor' (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processmonitor), a real-time file, registry and process watcher. You can download and unzip them to any folder. Start with Process Explorer to see if a currently running process accesses your music files. Start procexp.exe either directly as admin or, once started, use it's File menu to restart it as admin. Then type Ctrl+F or click on the spyglass icon and enter the path to your music library. Process Explorer will give you a list of processes that *currently* have file handles open in this path. If this doesn't give you a hint, close it and try Process Monitor. Be careful: when it starts, it immediately captures hundreds of thousands of file and registry accesses and might slow down your system a bit. Stop capturing with a click on the magnifier glass icon or type Ctrl+E. Define a filter to exclude stuff you are not interested in. First, deselect all of the five right-most buttons in the toolbar except the one for file access (2nd from left in this group). Then click on the filter icon (or type Ctrl+L). Add two new filters to the list of predefined filters: 1) from the first dropdown list select 'Path', from the conditions select 'exclude', in the 3rd field enter the path to your music library and from the last list select 'exclude' and click the Add button (don't forget this!). This filter exludes all events that don't have the path you've entered. 2) from the first list select 'Operation', from the 2nd 'exclude', from the 3rd select 'WriteFile' and from the 4th 'exclude' and click Add(!). This filter excludes all events that are not about writing a file. Now close the filter window and re-enable capturing. Note that the filters just hide excluded events but still a huge amount of events need to be processed. But if no process is currently writing a file in your path, you'll see no events (you can temporarily create and modify a file manually to see the events are working). reinholdk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36070 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106892 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

For a first test use a different SSID so you can make sure that the Touch connects to the AP. If everything would be working fine then the SSIDs could even be identical and the AP would just extend the WiFi coverage in your home - and with better performance than a WiFi Repeater. Of course the AP and the new router should span a single network (which they do when you switch your old router to Bridge mode as it's called in the Linksys manual, I think).
