Thanks for your concern. I tried your exact settings, to no avail. Could you also post your about:config results for browser.tabs.* ? I've got SM 1.1.14 under Linux and SM 1.1.16 under Win98SE: the bad behavior shows up on both ones. Some more testing: - Linux: "seamonkey www.google.com" on a command-line uses an existing tab; so the "external application" setting seems to be broken. - Win98: "C:/.../seamonkey.exe www.google.com" in the Launch dialog does create a new tab! So I'm even more puzzled now: how comes that SM obeys the "external application" setting for really external apps but not for its own components? (OK, strictly speaking they're not external ;-)) -- LL ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

On closer inspection it is not necessary to install gcc-3. There is a package libstdc++-v3 which should suffice. And so it was. Now i have tested some old SMs on Linux with a fresh profile, 1.1.8, 1.1.9, 1.1.11 and 1.1.12-pre. All of them have the issue. So it seems that it is indeed Linux-only. Just for interest, I clicked on the two links above, and they open in two tabs of the one page. Then I compared my prefs setting with those in the first, and mine are the same, except I also have "Hide the tab bar when only one page open" selected and don't have anything selected for "Open tabs instead of windows for". Guess I should get my Mandriva Linux dial-in agent working so I can check things in Linux (but I seem to remember its the same!!). For example, I am running on Linux, so it could be a Linux-only issue. Also, it only takes over an existing browser window if there is one open. In other words, if you just launch Mail & News and open an attachment, it will open a new window. It's only after I have existing browser windows, that I see the problem. I have everything set to open in a new window, but when I open an attachment from within Mail & Newsgroups, it uses an existing browser window (and replaces the content that was displayed with the content of the attachment).
