Re: [freenet-support] Please, help.

2016-09-13 Thread Stephen Oliver
Hi Peter,

There should be an uninstaller in the Freenet installation folder, which should
be in your home folder unless you installed it somewhere else. Running the
uninstaller should take care of it for you.

Alternatively, you can do it manually: make sure Freenet isn’t running, then
delete the folder where it was installed.

You may also need to remove the cron entry that starts Freenet when your
machine boots. To do that, open a terminal and type “crontab -e”, then
carefully delete any line that refers to Freenet.

is how would anyone know what to do with the advanced settings, if theyre
something that shouldnt be messed with, maybe they shouldnt be there, or
as i suggested maybe you could have some kind of, as i said, beginner to

You seem to be running Freenet without the wrapper. This is not
recommended. Also, you have changed your advanced configuration settings
where you definitely shouldn't have, since you seem to have no idea what
you are doing. Here's my final advice:

 1. Uninstall Freenet.
 2. Download the latest Freenet installer.
 3. Run the installer and follow the instructions.
 4. Answer the questions in the first-time configuration wizard.
 5. Don't touch any of the other configuration options. Ever.

I sincerely hope you manage to succeed in running Freenet given this
extremely simple instructions. Either way, don't expect me to respond to
any of your further questions. At least not until you have bothered to
fix both your apparently malfunctioning keyboard and your attitude
towards those trying to help you.

Hi Bert,
I'd guess that Dave Larsen has only never heard of the netiquette, and
maybe he only should hear once,
that using exclusively capital letters in a mail is considered as
yelling on the face of the recipient !

After all, it's not written in big signs on every site…
More, it would be otherwise utterly stupid to speak like this asking help :
You skunks could you help me please to get out ou this Slurry pit ?
So, if he happens to read this, he may then be aware of it :-) .

This is most likely caused by a misguided configuration.

3RD, when i can stay on long enough to dl a file, […]
them /or save and restore them, or, i get internal java lang heapspace
 error

And here's the evidence. The restarts you experience are in fact crashes
due to Freenet running out of memory.

Your node seems to be configured it in such a way that it requires more
system memory than it's assigned. Please try to increase your node
memory assignment. The setting to change is 'Maximum memory usage' in
the 'Configuration → Core settings' menu, under the 'Wrapper' heading.

 but the worst one is, i have a file complete but i get a ;
java.io.EOFException, for 99% of what i have successfully downloaded ,
 not too successful

Probably your downloads got corrupted due to the frequent unexpected
restarts. If you no longer experience random restarts, and still
encounter download corruption, please let us know.

 4TH, i am doing this on brand new, 500gb 7200 rpm hdd, 4 g ram, 60mbps up,
and download wifi speed, (my computer reads 72mbps for that), freenet
detects 59mbps for my up and dl speeds, no data limit, no bandwidth limit,

Your WiFi connection speed is not a measure for the actual connection
bandwidth of your internet connection. Unless you have a 100 Mbit fiber
connection to your ISP, your actual upload bandwidth is unlikely to be
this high.

Note that Freenet cannot always reliably detect your internet connection
bandwidth. If you wish to know yours, there are several services out
there to test your bandwidth (http://speedtest.net for example).

i have dedicated 100 gib of space for the datastore, and 20gb each, for the
3 other stores, i have my ram cache, (instead of the 43mib it wants to give
me), i set it up to 240 mib.

Having a large RAM cache reduces the amount of memory usable by the rest
of Freenet. If you insist on having a large RAM cache, please do
increase your memory limit as explained above.

i also have 1 3rd party system cleaning
program and one ram boost program.

RAM boost programs don't help performance. Even Windows is quite good at
managing system memory nowadays. That said, running one shouldn't
dramatically decrease your system performance either.

 [endless ranting omitted]

Please keep this conversation polite, thanks.

Before comparing Freenet to Google and other service providers, note
that Freenet is free software distributed under the GPL license, which
explicitly states the below:

This program is distributed in the hope that it will be useful,
but WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of
MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Freenet is maintained and supported mostly by volunteers. Our available
time and resources are limited, but if you ask politely, we will try to
help you out.

Thank you for trying Freenet.

i really like where i can go here in the FREENET, and would like to become
a valued participant, maybe even a donor, but, if it dont work, im not
going to waste my time and money, ive already put in 200 hours of pretty
much unsuccessful effort, and maybe, if im lucky, 10-15 successful hours
in, please even if this is not the right place, if you can, forward this to
someone that can help, im giving my permission to do so, or point me in the
right direction for REAL HELP AND SUPPORT FOR FREENET, google is removing
info from the web to assist with freenet, i couldnt find any useful help on
tor either, if therer is info out there its either old or removed, crossed
off on google, hopefully, its worth saying this , but i doubt it,cuz i
havent had any luck finding real help yet, but im going to say, thank you
in advance for taking the time to read this and for any future associations

2012-09-22 Thread stargate
Until about three years ago, I had a fileserver running 24/7 (including 0.5
version of Freenet), on a static IP, fiber-optic, but the electricity's gone up
ever since, and my needs have changed. At the moment, I could even offer up to
around 6400 Kbytes/s incoming and 500 Kbytes/s outgoing (eventually 500/500
should I decide to downgrade). But the catch is, I'd have to find someone to
sponsor the electricity costs for that computer to be put back into action.

Is it possible to work as an assistant seed node?
I can manger 24/7 almost but can only manage 10kB/s up and down.

 - At least 50KB/sec bandwidth both ways. Note that you may get some traffic

 - Go to opennet configuration and set be a seednode? to true.

Obviously your opennet noderef includes your IP address, so replying on FMS

 Sorry but

Please explain in details how to:

 - Go to opennet configuration and set be a seednode? to true.

Open your Freenet node's web interface:
http://127.0.0.1:/
Click on Switch to advanced mode at the bottom of the page.
Click on the Configuration menu and then the Opennet option.
It's the last option, at the end of the page. Change it.
Click Apply.

 - Send me your opennet noderef, which you can find here:

It's a file, you can download it and email me it.

I have freenet running 24/7 (for years) but never use it.

I cannot find where be a seednode? is in configuration file?

How do I send you my noderef?

Not a good idea sorry.

Plus one thing I didn't mention: You need to have successfully forwarded your
opennet port. Freenet will grumble about this if you haven't, and it should try
to forward it automatically, but this doesn't always work.

Hi,

Somehow I can not see others messages on freetalk and please do not descard
this as an rtfm problem, if there only was a manual...
At this moment I have 3 identities in freetalk, 2 old ones and a new one. The 2
old ones I created during the previous version of freetalk
an the new one 5 days ago.
With none of the identities I can see the messages of others exept me and :
argent_smith
USK@nsaROfn~KA6yQxf0nvnHi9GgSqIdUsm4Eh3wpe5FoKc,M4TOWCvA7BOl3SxyZFgaOt--Cz85AIsI4H8ffcs282w,AQACAAE/WebOfTrustRC1/54
I also can not see my recent addition identity.

How is it that I can not see the messages of others exept argent_smith?
Should it not be that a 'new' user/identity can see the messages of others but
not publish messages until his trust is validated? In this way it is very
frustrating.
What can I do to resolve this?
Thanks,

Jelbert

Freenet was unable to determine your external IP address (or the IP address
of your NAT-device or firewall). You can still exchange references with other
people, however this will only work if the other user is not behind a
NAT-device or firewall. As soon as you have connected to one other user in
this way, Freenet will be able to determine your external IP address. You can
determine your current IP address and tell your node with the 'Temporary IP
address hint' configuration parameter. Also, it would be a good idea to
forward the ports 61616 and 27307 (UDP) on your router to make it easy to
 connect to your node.

Re: [freenet-support] Please help

2009-10-09 Thread ltgb

HI Jonathan.
I'm very new to Freenet and have the same problem. One Freenet
piece of advice told me to go to: http://www.whatismyip.com/
That will tell you what your IP is and you then insert
(copy/paste), that URL number into the Temporary IP address hint
window.

I haven't done that yet myself as I am trying to uninstall Freenet
and put in the latest Build, which I think I have finally
downloaded.

Post back if you would about how that works, i.e. what it does,
results, etc, if you would be so kind.

Good luck.

[freenet-support] Please help us test the new wininstaller (Vista users especially welcome)

2009-05-07 Thread Matthew Toseland
https://checksums.freenetproject.org/latest/FreenetInstaller.exe

This should be Vista-compatible. It is entirely Zero3's work. Please test it
before we release it to all Windows users! In particular, testing on Vista
and Windows 7 would be very helpful (since the existing installer doesn't
work on these platforms). Thanks!

This is very strange. You have http://127.0.0.1:/ open in the browser and
you click the links and they produce an error message? What browser are you
using?

What if you go to http://127.0.0.1:/alerts/ ? What happens?

Most of your other problems are related to your not running the first-time
wizard (because you used the console mode installer):
http://127.0.0.1:/wizard/
Please go to that URL and follow the prompts to configure your node.
And as Volodya pointed out, please make sure your node is running first.
(Start it up with run.sh start if necessary).

1. Was the node running at the time you tried it (you can check that with
./run.sh status)
2. Is your node running on the local machine? If not you need to substitute
'127.0.0.1' with the IP of the machine where it is running?
2.1. If the node is running on the local machine, check where it is binding to
(you can see that in freenet.ini, for example "fproxy.bindTo=127.0.0.1")
3. Is the node installed on the port ? (you can check that in the
freenet.ini file, it will be something like "fproxy.port=")

As for the slowness at the end, I see that when

[freenet-support] please help me with error messages and multihomed computer

2001-06-07 Thread z08544

Hi, I hope experts can help me on two questions:

(1) When I insert files with manifest.jar I often see
the screen with RESTARTED: Waiting up to 732 seconds before time out

And in the log file I see (and I think the two are related):
Authentication timed out
Return to null failed on no more references

Would you please let me know what is going on?

(2) I have a multihomed computer which runs a webserver and a
freenet node. I would like to have the freenet node listen to
only one IP. Is it enough to put in freenet.ini
nodeAddress=my.ip.for.fn:myport

Thank you.
Peter
