This makes sense, because most mails I receive are just for my attention (by CC). The privilege of being the boss is to copied in on so many operational mails that I hardly take a glance at, so I need to prioritize. When I have seen all incoming mails and have a number of open windows in my TB, I start replying to the open ones one-by-one, and a reply filter takes the flag off. By the end of the business day, there should be no more open windows, and no flagged messages. However, we sometimes have blackouts, and that's where the flags come in (after power is restored): I go to a virtual folder which lists all the flagged messages, and I now which ones still to answer. -- Cheers, Thomas. http://thomas.fernandez.hat-gar-keine-homepage.de/ Message reply created with The Bat! 5.3.8 under Windows 7 6.1 Build 7601 Service Pack 1 Current beta is 5.3.8.4 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Filter
Hello Thomas, GG I'd like to have a mental filter on incoming mail that could filter mail that GG has to be answered into the folder 'to be answered'. GG ;-) I have one, but it is not automatic. It works as follows: Mine is somewhat similar but without opening any windows. I use Smartspace to browse my received messages and to mark them as read. When this happens, a set of Read filters I have move the message to its appropriate archive folder. EXCEPT if the message just read was previously flagged (manually), in which case a different Read filter moves it to my 'For reply' folder and removes the flag. When I do reply to one of the messages in the 'For reply' folder, a set of Replied filters, with similar conditions and actions to the Read filters, move the just replied message to the appropriate archive folder. Added to this I have a [Must reply] virtual folder just underneath 'For reply', and which only looks into this folder and displays the messages that are older than X days (I change the value of X every now and then). -- Best regards, Miguel A. There are many other filters in this account that are still working correctly I am asking on the beta list because it stopped working in 5.05 My point of view is that TB did not get that filtering to work as expected. These stepchild IMAP is a heavy and usefull protocol with a huge amount of users. They need a proffesional tool - and not tool that stumble over filters. I know that these messages want help, i hope nobody will laugh about that - or my great english ;) - but i have a slight hope that these filtering subprogramm is not so complicated. Hello List! Hi Vili, on 21.09.2005 at 22:30 [UTC -0400] you wrote: Tab to the OK button, and then you should press the Enter. Well this is annoying. On some webpage when you accidentally press Enter, you send the form, many times not filled all fields. Same here: Aehmm? Another confirmation that I want to re-filter? Excuse me, but i can't agree with your point of view. Because if I press enter, this is my confirmation that it is ok to re-filter. You have to be more carefully and TB! in fact is not a webpage form. This is a dialog box where i know which things are on it and can check it in a split of a second that it is OK. And the default settings for the re-filter box are mostly ok for me, so it is simply annoying to get through all things... Ok, this would not be a problem if I had an shortcut for my lovely OK... BTW: It is common to declare a default button on dialogs.. for example what about the options dialog..? or nearly every other dialog in GUIs? I think it is a faulty handling of messages from the TSpTBXCheckBox class... because it is not restricted to the re-filter dialog. Every check box is affected. And it's interesting handling of the Keys... - Focus one CheckBox - Press SPACE - Checkbox will not immediately check - Release SPACE - CB will wait for release-key - Press RETURN - CB will check immediatly - Key repeating will take effect -- Regards, Stefan TheBat! v3.61.06 Echo (Beta) with Windows XP v5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 2 Current beta is 3.61.06 (Echo) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Re: Filter problem with IMAP account
Mml, [M] wrote: I filter my Inbox for a particular email adress, assign a color group and finally move these messages to another folder. When I use this filter with IMAP provider1 the filter always fails. The result is that these messages stay in the Inbox and don't have the appropriate color. When I invoke the filter manually from the filter properties dialog this works fine !! When I use the same filter with my IMAP provider2 account it works without any problems. That's strange right ? Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong ? This is an interesting insight. I have only one IMAP provider and that's myself. I've been noting that my Inbox filters work when they feel like. Some seem to work consistently, while others don't. Both are filters that look for header string matches. In fact, the one that often doesn't work at all is one that matches all messages not yet already filtered (it's the last filter in the filter set). I've never thought that the filter could be working differently depending on the provider and that this could be a factor in the existence of this annoying problem. All I can say is that you're certainly not alone with this problem and that it isn't your fault or anything you're doing wrong. It's just TB! IMAP and we have to wait for a fix if we're up to waiting. Does your provider allow for server side filtering? Many providers allow for webmail control of IMAP accounts. These webmail interfaces often allow for filtering. You could setup filters there and then let TB!'s broken filtering do as little as possible. This is my current system of dealing with things. Re: Filter problem with IMAP account
Peter Fjelsten, [PF] wrote: Each time I assign a colour group to an IMAP message, that colour group is lost on moving the message. This isn't surprising since moving the message moves the message to another IMAP folder on the server. TB! sync's with this IMAP folder which holds no information about colour group assignment, a purely local feature for TB!. As a result, there is no colour group assignment when you check the message in the other folder. You may propose then that RL implements a system when the colour group is locally reassigned when the message is moved. I'd wonder why bother since it really isn't worth the hassle. If you fire up another TB! client on another machine and access the IMAP account, all colour groups assigned via the initial TB! installation will not be seen. What's the point then of using an attribute that doesn't carry across to other IMAP clients? If you use a single client, then why use IMAP then? TB! needs to implement the added message attributes that are standard for the IMAP protocol, so that when you label the message, ThunderBird will show it, Mulberry will show it, and last but not least, your other TB! installations at other locations will show it. I'd personally disagree with the proposal that they commit efforts at making colour groups work better when it's only local. -- -= Allie =- . Are you suggesting that I am receiving 2 or messages that are the same one after the other and that the filter is or isn't doing something properly with one of them? Firstly I very much doubt that the msgs are being duplicated at source as they are sent out periodically from a server to many people here and no one is receiving duplicates. However, even if the msgs /were/ being duplicated at source then surely the system should just process them one after the other? And it's important to remember that the messages /are/ being deleted; there is no sign of them in the inbox; just the ticker. Even if it's not spam, I can't read it and am not interested in trying, so it works fine for me. -- Best regards, Chris Wilson mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.formula3.freeserve.co.uk _ Archives : http://tbbeta.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Bugs/Wishes: https://bt.ritlabs.com/

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi Chris, On 02 December 2000 at 00:17:53 + (which was 00:17 where I live) Chris Wilson wrote and made these points: Write an outgoing filter to move messages to Sent (i.e. not move) and, as an action, copy the message to the required folder. Thanks Marck, a typo there I think, you meant "write an outgoing filter to COPY messages to sent", right? Or do you mean move... ? I have a lot of trouble with filters, they often spring a few surprises on me :-) Please just confirm this if you get a chance! "Move" is the terminology of filters. A filter has a fundamental purpose of "moving" messages from one folder to another. If "moving" is not required you have to specify source as destination. Hello Chris, On Sat, 2 Dec 2000 at 00:17:53 GMT + (which was 4:17 PM where I live) witnesses say Chris Wilson typed: Write an outgoing filter to move messages to Sent (i.e. not move) and, as an action, copy the message to the required folder. Thanks Marck, a typo there I think, you meant "write an outgoing filter to COPY messages to sent", right? Or do you mean move... ? The filter will have your source folder as your outbox (That's where the message starts out.) Put the destination folder as the SENT folder (If you put outbox your recipient will get *lots* of copies). Under actions use the COPY function to put a copy in some other folder. You can interchange Sent and the other folder, it doesn't really matter. Just pick a convention and stick to it so that debugging becomes easier. I have a lot of trouble with filters, they often spring a few surprises on me :-) Please just confirm this if you get a chance! I highly recommend the FAQ tutorial on filters. The Kill filter part is a bit out of date, but the rest is still applicable. Re: Filter problems
Hi phil, I made a "Catch All Filter" for my personal use like this. [example snipped] Thanks, phil. If you read through the thread, however, you would find the problem I (or Marek) have isn't to come up with a perfect filter condition (string) that would catch all. The problem is, I have some "munual" filters that I don't want to run when I *re-filter* a folder. Marck suggested using a "catch-all" filter between automatic filters and manual filters as a "stop point", which I think is a good idea. Nevertheless, a catch-all filter has to move messages somewhere, and I don't want messages (that fall into the "catch-all" category) moved at all when I re-filter a folder. Hence the problem. Thanks anyway. -- Best regards, Ming-Li Using The Bat! 1.46 Beta/2 under Win2k -- -- View the TBBETA archive at http://tbbeta.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double-click HERE: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBBETA, double-click HERE: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
Re: Filter problems
Hi Marek, I need to do following function: delete from folder (not to Trash) selected message by defined schortcut, but not, if is parked or flagged. I created following filtr: - String : @ - "Actions/Delete the messag"e selected - "Options/Execute action set of this rule" selected - Schotcut - Ctrl+Shift+Alt+O - "Advanced/Message is unparked" selected - "Advanced/Message is not flagged" selected When I apply this filtr by pressing this schortcut on parked message, this message disappears in this folder. When I change folder and select back to previous, message is still there - cosmetic bug. Confirmed. Same problem, when I uncheck options "Message is unparked" and "Message is not flagged" in section "Advanced. When I apply this filtr by pressing this schortcut on flagged message, this message is deleted! - section Advanced was not used, I think. You're right, when applying a filter on selected messages with a hotkey, no filtering conditions (including the search string, and conditions in the advanced pane) would be used, IF the source folder is the same as the destination folder, UNLESS the option "Check the selected messages against this rule" is checked. Confusing? You bet. And this is designed behavior, not a bug. (Speaking with a straight face. :-| ) What happened to parked messages in your case is accidental: parked messages can't be deleted with a filter no matter what (before unparking it first), not because TB abides to the condition you set. A bit of history (from someone with a little more than 2 month's experience): It's long been lamented that TB's filters, with all its prowess, couldn't be used without moving messages to a certain folder. Hence RIT designed sort of a backdoor trick as described above. (Or it's been there all long, I don't know.) So you may set both the source folder and the destination folder to Inbox, and apply the filter to other folders with a hotkey without those messages being moved to Inbox. IOW, pressing the hotkey would simply do the designated "actions" on selected messages, with no regard to any other condition. For your purpose, enable the ""Check the selected messages against this rule" will do. Theoretically, it would make TB move the matched messages to the destination folder (even if it's the same as the source folder), but it won't be a problem here since TB execute the "delete" action first, hence no messages left to move.
Re: Filter defunctionated
Hi Jast, Just recently, about since June 28, a filter for marking my own messages as unread and with a color group, has stopped working on messages that I send through a mailing list and receive back again. It does work on messages I send myself. Since it works on messages you send to yourself, the filter setting should be fine. To be sure, I've just created a filter exactly as you described, and it does mark your message in both TBBETA and TBUDL as it should. Do you mean the problem occurs only on messages for one particular mailing list, or any mailing list (I'm trying to decipher what "a mailing list" mean). If it's the former, I would check if the list has changed its header. Some mailing lists would strip the original "From" information from the header. -- Best regards, Ming-Li mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- -- View the TBBETA archive at http://tbbeta.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double-click HERE: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBBETA, double-click HERE: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Morning Ming-Li, Do you mean the problem occurs only on messages for one particular mailing list, or any mailing list (I'm trying to decipher what "a mailing list" mean). If it's the former, I would check if the list has changed its header. Some mailing lists would strip the original "From" information from the header. Nope, it happens with all messages sent to and then received by a mailing list, be it TBUDL, TBBETA, or various egroups mailing lists - no difference. None of these lists has changed their header, and it *should* be properly detected. This is what confuses me. -- ..
