Just to clear the confusion up, there is no need to use
Quoted-Printable, The Bat recognises that a .mht file doesn't need
any encoding. But strangely, from my earlier experiments with
attaching HTML files. For a .html file it is better to use
quoted-printable. It seems to display

to me. Perhaps OE5 installs the appropriate drivers?

That's what I thought. And I tried to mail one to myself with the
default Base64 encoding, and it was fine.
Err, just to clear my confusion, you do mean that the attachment came
through as an .mht file, right? If not, could you please send me a
.mht file offlist so I can see

Opening up a .mht file in an editor shows it's no great miracle of
invention - it's a multipart MIME-encoded text file, e.g. (from a
VCDJ article I just grabbed for reference):
