Ah, but now it works! I think the editor has the same behaviour after the
cut mark line as after any other line, but TB knows not to trim trailing
spaces (or at least one) if you put it on the line. It's not very clear I
know, but it seems to work if you put a space at the end of that line
(either in your template or in the message itself) and then don't do
anything like press the end key.

 Hello Adrian,

On Fri, 28 Nov 2003 10:57:48 + your time, you said:

AJM I've received attachments from a Mac user (using Word for Mac). I
AJM have been unable to read them. I think the problem is caused by
AJM illegal characters such as / being used in the file name.

AJM I'm using 2.01.3 set to keep attachment files in message bodies.

If you need them desperately then you could try this:

 1. Export email to .msg format
 2. Open the .msg file in a text editor (without wordwrap on).
 3. Look for the base64 encoded file by looking for the
MIME boundary declaration in the message. Here is an example:

 - --begin example

 - 10E4A19720729F06
 Content-Type: image/gif; name=routeradmin.gif
 Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=routeradmin.gif

 R0lGODlhAAUABPcAAH8AAAGBAICBqIAAgAB+gMC+tcLZv6bJ8QEE3wIcdgY1qAAe
 yQNE5AJSsQF4PwJ4cQV7pwOHUwCJWgGPcQKcAQsMDREVGwkZQA8yZg86gwNcTRtPwghhzAlvBwh1

..the rest of base64 encoded image snipped..

 - --end example

 4. change the filename after the name= part and the filename= part
so that they are the same name; IOW change the original filename to
newfile.ext, where 'newfile' is anything you like, and ext is whatever
 the file extension should be.

 - - btw: it will be these original filenames that contain the offending
characters so you are simply removing the offending characters and
 adding something sensible ;-).

 5. Save the file. Close it and import it back into TB!

It's a workaround at least. Hope it works :-)

Thanks for the suggestion. It worked a treat.

In fact, I opened a new Temp folder in to which I copied the offending
email. It was then easy to export it, edit as you suggested to get rid
of the illegal characters and then re-import it. The resultant was text
that I could read without the slightest difficulty.

To ask you another question. It appears to me that TheBat does not
like attachments without an extenion. I had one which, when I tried to
open it I got the message no application is associated with the
specified file for this operation. When I added a .doc extension I
could handle it without any problems. Is there something I can do to
make such attachments more readily accessible?

That is not a problem of The Bat, it is your Windows. And it is correct,
there is normally no application associated to open files without an
extension. In your Windows Explorer take a look at Tools/Folder
Options/File Types. There you can see which files (extension) is
associated with which application.

That should have worked, IMHO. If you attach an HTML file, and the

the bat! and cyrillic

2003-11-30 Thread Andre Wichartz
Hello list,

I've some problems with using cyrillic chartacters in my mails. When I
change to russian keyboard layout and then try to enter something in a
header field, I first see the cyrillic text. But when I tab to the next
field the text changes to questionmarks. Entering cyrillic in the body
of the mail works flawlessly, I just have to choose the right charset.
When I then look at the source of the created mail there are again
questionmarks in the headers while the body is ok.

With templates it's the same. I can enter cyrillic in the template and
hit ok. When I return to the template or use it in a mail I get only
questionmarks. The funny thing is, I can reply to mails with cyrillic
chars in the headers just fine.

I'm using WinXP SP1 (english) and TB! 2.01.56. And no Miguel, it is not
a beta issue. The release versions behave exactly the same ;)

Perhaps it has something to do with the random characters and/or words that spammers

On the bugtracker forum, I have requested the ability to filter only selected text in

when paragraphs of randomly selected real words, as well as nonsense words are added,
because they can be omitted from filtering. In addition, when faux html tags are

filtering.

Any other/better suggestions?

 TBUDL Mission statement

The TBUDL list has been set up for the purpose of discussing The
Bat! and how to use it. It is a community of users ready and able to
help new users get to grips with some of the capabilities of this
flexible email client. More complex issues are discussed on the
TBTECH list (see below for details).

Simply send messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to send it to the
whole list.

See the notes at the end of this message for details about how to
manage your list membership or to leave the list.

It would probably be a good idea for you to set up a folder to keep
TBUDL messages in. If you do this, the next most useful thing to
have in place is an automatic filter to move mail from your inbox
into your TBUDL folder.

Set up a filter for incoming mail which looks for
StringsLocationPresence
Reply-to:.*TBUDL@ Kludges Yes
Options: Regular expressions (Checked).

The TBUDL Rogues Gallery

There is a TBUDL Rogues Gallery, letting you put a face to the
name. The gallery can be viewed at
http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/rogues.html

Want to add your face to the gallery? Here's how:

Send your picture by e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Ideally you
should provide it as a 120x144 jpeg image.

For those of you who do not know how or do not have an image editing
program to do this, send the image to Marck and he'll do it.

Make sure you include your name as you want it to appear on the page.

TBTECH - The Bat technical discussion list

The TBTECH list has been set up for the purpose of discussing The
Bat! and related issues that are of a more technical nature than is
catered for in the TBUDL list. Such topics as Regular Expression,
RFC content and compliance, plug-in programming, Spell-checker
semantics, 3rd party software, ISP policy, Internet protocols and
anything else that would bore a beginner into leaving the TBUDL!

I did it as an attachment, the text came up first, attachement at the
bottom of the screen in a tab, and on the left of the message view as
 message.html.

TF That should have worked, IMHO. If you attach an HTML file, and the
TF recipient clicks on it, it should be displayed correctly (if the
TF graphics and stuff are sent with it). I receive newsletters in HTML
TF and have no problems displaying them; but the senders are probably not
TF using TB.

I let him use Lookout to send the postcard. I just don't like to
open the darn program on my computer.

TF I understand this perfectly. I just don't know why the HTML attachment
TF wouldn't display properly on the recipinets' computers.

I can send out of Lookout and have it display properly. Even images if
I include them in as an attachment. If it is an image src on the web,
naturally it displays a X. But I cannot paste it into TB. It does
not understand much more than Colored fonts, etc.. No tables, or
anything fancy. At least that is as far as I can tell.

Server reports error...Enter message, ending with .

2003-11-30 Thread Randy Burns
Was using TheBat 2.01.3.

Any ideas about why this happened:

I tried to send a specific RAR file, attached to an email using MIME, and
got this error message every time I tried to send. I tried to send it about
three times. It always stopped sending at the exact same place (I think) with
about 10% sent. My solution was to compress it with ZIP instead, and send it
without any problem, but I'm curious about whether this error is common, and
what exactly happened?

!11/29/2003, 15:14:46: SEND - Server reports error. The response is: Enter
message, ending with . on a line by itself

Thanks,
