If this is impossible then: How do I re-filter all messages in my database so to strip the name from the recipient field and only leave behind the Address? Hello, The option of threading by TO: Address seems so far a viable option. I really appreciate everyone hooting along in agreement. I assume this is an option many won't vote against. How then do I put in a feature request and be able to track it? Also, if worse did come to worse and the developers for some reason or another refused to add such an option, is there a secret hack or any third party utilities that will strip all recipient names from messages in my database? What phrase or code does all bounces have in common?
Hello tbudl, I plan on sending out auto-replies to e-mail which I consider bad. Incase after an auto-reply is sent out and the message is meant to bounce, I do not wish to send an auto-reply to the bounced mail. I filter bad mail through e-mail address only. So the bad email sends me a message, I send an auto-reply, bad-email bounces, I send another auto-reply, bounce, reply, bounce, reply, etc... I do not wish to go into a mean loop and worse case scenario be labeled a spammer. What I need to do is apply a filter before all others which check to see if the message is being bounced back. If the message is a bounce I would like to filter it to a bounce folder so not to kill good bounces. What do all bounces have in common? I wish to filter against the one single ID all bounces have in common or at least should have in common without being way too general about it. I do not wish to filter mail which carries one single word. It has to be a term, a phrase, or something which should not be found in any regular email (another reason why I should filter to a folder). So what is the one thing (preferably phrase) all bounces have in common? -- Best regards, Victor B. horrible and retarded filtering problem...
Hello tbudl, I have given away an address which has obviously fallen into the wrong hands. Now I am getting spam because of this address. The craziest thing which is killing me, is my address never makes it to the to, cc or bcc field. So I can never pinpoint trying to kill it by filtering against this special address. I am trying to filter against this single address by applying several different filters... nothing works! Something is wrong... I really don't understand the meaning of the anywhere filter yes as what does anywhere mean? anywhere outside the bat only? Cause anywhere never works for me... I even pasted the entire header section as this has gotten me so perplexed and upset. Forgive me but when something should be so simple, yet made so impossible to deal with, I can't help it but to feel overwhelmed and stupid... The address I need to filter against is [EMAIL PROTECTED] I cannot filter against anything else like keywords, strings, from, Original-recipient, etc... I need to only kill this mail simply because of one single email address. I need to kill it if it has [EMAIL PROTECTED] anywhere in it. The headers clearly have the address but no filter can ever find it... Is this the new super and stupid spam trick? I mean I am thinking the bat is so genious I should just say anywhere or kludges and this address should get caught... No, so sad... Re[2]: horrible and retarded filtering problem...
Hello Simon, VBG The address I need to filter against is [EMAIL PROTECTED] S As well as [EMAIL PROTECTED], choose the Alternatives tab, add a new S set, and add [EMAIL PROTECTED]; complete with semi-colon. Set to S filter anywhere. I just tried it and it works fine :-) Long time no combo Simon :) This worked but I was highly against it as the filtering window is non resizable, therefore always one more filter makes it larger and harder to manage. I think I found a bug but first I'll tell you what I did. I completely stopped filtering against an address book for bad addresses. Instead I put all bad addresses in one single line seperated by the pipe character presence anywhere yes. This works beautifully and reduced my spam filters by several. The bug I think I found was putting anything in the filter strings or alternative box and trying to filter against an address book at the same time. i.e. the filter by itself [EMAIL PROTECTED] presence anywhere yes worked by itself but also adding an address book to filter against too failed. I think its a bug as your idea works standalone but never with filtering against an address book in the same filter. I got it solved, thanks for the idea, I needed some sleep and another shot at the drawing board. Its all fixed now, :woot:!. Thanks Simon! -- Best regards, Victor B. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello Greg, In a word, if these unnecessary 'features' are not made optional - YES! And I'm not alone in this. RitLabs will never kill their already good share of the market by removing options from the user... That would be a business flaw that could damage productivity and user loyalty... Everyone against HTML support have a few things in common but what I do not see in common is any of the positive HTML can achieve even in an email... To me text is good for one thing and I call it information straight... The reader starts at the top and works his way to the bottom meanwhile I know that with good HTML design you can actually stimulate a readers attention and responsiveness... One thing that kills me is this, is there anyone here whose against HTML mail and is also against doing business by email? I mean in other words if an HTML formatted email reaches your inbox does a filter or any other mean delete it before you see it? My point is The Bat may be great against showing web images inline but it can never stop an email composed elsewhere from reaching you in HTML... You can probably stop it using other means but overall in the end you still deal with it regardless of how much you might cry, wine, pant and pout about it. I believe in the freedom of choice. Any user any where in the world can send me any type of mail they wish as long as the message itself gets across... I have no qualms with it. I have respect for the Internet where technology will move ahead without asking you, prompting you or warning you and HTML no matter what the pessimist might think about it, has made its way into the email market without warning you. You can cry, wine, pant and pout but you're in no way going to stop the movement... I am currently preparing to run a business of my own and I only see the ability to create, manage and edit HTML inline as a plus. I have no arguments about future support for anything that does not damage what it is I respect today. Choice I am sure will come and it is the choice I will respect more than no choice but to edit in text and text alone. That's my opinion and 2 cents about HTML... About security, web bugs, spam viruses, etc... I fear it in the least... RTF editing and news group support I definitely encourage. Give me freedom of choice or give me death and if I die by the hands of death those hands most likely belong to a text only activist... The Bat! does not download images that are not sent with the message. It is widely considered that this is a good thing. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 In Eudora, when I wanted to reply to a message, regardless at which address I received it, there is a drop-down list of accounts from which I select the outgoing address. Is there some way to do this in The Bat! or There are two ways to do this... JA I'll add another ;) JA In the compose window, hit View, and put a tick in the From option. JA You now have a drop down list for the From box, containing all your JA accounts. The above is good when you wish to start composing a brand new message. If you would like your from address to automatically change to the value the message was sent to, try putting the below macro right at the top of your reply template. %FROM=%FROMNAME %OTOADDRHello %OFromFName, Its a beautiful macro :) If someone sends mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and you hit reply your from address will automatically become [EMAIL PROTECTED] so watch out when you reply with it. Re: AVG's 'Move to Virus Vault' Parenting
Hello Maurice, You should be pretty safe simply deleting it or better yet wiping it clean from your system. Do not execute or open the file. If any of your other *important files* are infected try to clean them with your AV but if nothing else is infected and the infected file is not at all important you should be safe simply deleting it (better yet wiping it). If you have PGP on your system it has a wipe feature. MM Grisoft's free anti-virus program told me today that MM my computer was infected with VBS/NAPTIME.A@MM. MM I promptly ran my anti-virus program, (System Suite 4 MM which used to be called Fix-it Utilities) and chose MM the the so-called deep scan: it found nothing. I MM then downloaded the latest Grisoft anti-virus update MM to disinfect my system. The guilty file apparently is MM 'jenniferp[1].htm' MM I was told We recommend you select the 'Move to Virus MM Vault', which I did, but the computer then hung. I MM have since repeated the AVG virus scan; the same MM troublesome file is flagged, but each time I click on MM 'Move to Virus Vault' the computer hangs. MM In an attempt to have computer literate 'kids', the MM three of them, have always been allowed access to the MM machine, whenever it's free. My wife is the fifth user MM (I'm the only one using The Bat). Would appreciate any MM suggestions from responsible parents - whatever that MM is - on the list. -- Best regards, Victor B. 2 Questions: Thread Views PGP messing with -- signature

I mean upon opening the tbudl folder all threads are collapsed and when I click on a new subject I realize I clicked on a response. Being I have a filter that sorts read messages for my tbudl folder the second that reply loses focus, its gone. The actual thread starter is buried within the thread and I have to work my way up (Open the thread, scroll to the bottom, start there). This is beginning to happen to me most of the time I open my tbudl folder to read messages. -- I also noticed (thanks to my Mozilla e-mail client) that my signatures get broken up... What I mean is the dash, dash, space (-- ) gets converted to a (- -- ) and it then allows for my entire signature to be caught up in a reply. Is this a bug? Is there a fix? Is there a work around? MDP Ah - that's what you're after. Not possible, I'm sorry to say. The MDP cursor's only resting place when the editor is opened by automated MDP means is the body. I only ask because if I launch a new message from within TB! The macro for the subject works fine. Perhaps I did stumble across a bug that does not respect the %SUBJ macro in the command line switches? I do not wish to repeat the process though the command line but instead create a shortcut that launches the editor window for the account and it in no way tampers with the template. MDP You're not telling us in what way it is tampered with. I mean everything else with the template is fine except the macro for the automatic subject title ceases to work :( Thanks again :) - - -- Best regards, Victor B. MA I should check out what's already on the Net before leaping into MA writing something. I'm not saying you don't know enough or can't help MA people to learn some tricks, but your attitude to new threats and to MA passing on nasties seems a little naive. And that's not meant in any MA way offensively. No offense taken what so ever :) A good debate is the father of a good report. I was though for the record not mentioning writing a report about AVs but a report on good system maintenance. The future report is mainly aimed at protecting yourself and not others; but what is safety with a disregard of it towards others? You're right and I am not upset. I can only thank you for your point of view on the subject. VBG One thing then I would need help with if someone would be VBG so kind. One, I understand The Bat! supports the AVG plugin, VBG but do I need AVG running all the time or can AVG simply VBG launch unnoticeably when I hit send to send mail out then VBG just stop? I do still prefer a plug-in VS. full system watch AVs. Which is the best freeware version out? I don't really like the idea of paying for another anti-virus scanner :( MA You'd be much better off with the excellent Norton engine that you MA already have, running all the time. NAV is a part of my NSW2002 Pro package and I don't have it installed. Does it have plug-in support because then maybe I'll pull it out of the box? You can simply manipulate your shortcut file to accept a command switch, which would launch the composer first. I just started getting into commands and there not that hard. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello Dierk, Built in calendar with mail scheduling features. Anniversaries, Birthdays, Holidays, Business... DH Scheduling: Concur. DH Full-blown calendar: No. You weren't the only one to disagree with a calendar being a part of The Bat! and every one is entitled to their opinion without argument but it is just that I see it differently. I do not want a calendar to simply be a part of the client for non e-mail task management purposes or because most major players already incorporate one. My life revolves around e-mail, scheduling, reminders, broadcast, etc and I would surely appreciate a client which can ease the work for me by removing a lot of the redundancy. I would also like to see support for newsgroups which should be somewhat a standard for mail clients. DH It was said his will come via plug-in with v2. DH I'd prefer TB stays an e-mail client. News is much more than mail and DH there are at least two good news clients on the market (Gravity and DH Agent, even Free Agent is very good). I was completely use to participating in newsgroups using clients like outlook and Mozilla and I have grown to expect such features without question. For me personally I respect newsgroups and if they never die neither then will my participation in them. Combining the two made it easy to copy, paste and/or forward good and critical information when necessary. I still use Mozillas Calendar and e-mail/newsgroup client to stay on top of scheduling and knowledge trades. Extract information from the body and sort to address book or to file. DH Isn't that possible with RegEx? Not like I am thinking about it. Did you ever code and along the left side of your editor theres a number for every line? I collect information using on-line forms and the information sent to my e-mail is the same every time. line 13: Users IP line 14: First Name line 15: etc line 16: referrers address I would like to say to the bat if this message matches this filter then extract, line 13, line 14 and line 15 and reply with a certain address (not my default) and e-mail line 16. I can imagine RegEx has the features but I am no geek and I am not stupid but little by little I am sure the bat team can add more usability filtering and macros. Reply without using default reply address but templates reply address. DH I may misunderstand this, but isn't that what AB templates (perhaps in DH conjunction with QTs) are for? The Bat is awesome and does have some major player features but what I am asking for I guess is account or alias creation on the fly. My default account is ooo but if a message sent to my inbox is for xxx then reply with xxx. I am really happy you concurred with everything else :) The above are my opinions and my opinions alone. The Bat! is awesome but I found out early that loyalty can kill you. The second a newer and better application comes along I ride the wave out until a better one surfaces. One key point on the persons poor research abilities published on Sunday, December 22, 2002 are Pegasus Mail (last updated substantially in late 2001). I am no fan of Pegasus but to my knowledge last update was August 24, 2002 http://www.pmail.com/newsflash.htm#WPM402 He states an argument of the clients automatically displaying HTML e-mail, which might be the case for some but doesn't make a reference that most will offer a choice to view messages only as text and how some clients default to view only text. To me the author seemed fixed on his own ideas of what makes a client safe and he made a few bad examples of some clients in the process. I can honestly compare e-mail to sex and clients to a prophylactic. E-mail can become a very dangerous routine and leave you caught out there with a spam disease but is it the clients fault? Will you really put a prophylactic on your foot when you do it? You really should learn how to use it heh? It takes a lot to learn how to send and receive but is it really the clients fault the user decides to stop it there? Doesn't the user also have a choice? I had OE, dropped it, had Eudora, dropped it, had Mozilla, dropped it and moved on. The author only mentioned I believe 3 out of literally hundreds of clients to choose from. Overall it wasn't an article about how clients lack progress but about how the author chose three products to speak badly about. If he knew about The Bat! would he have still spoken negatively in that article or could he have in it's place put something positive about The Bat!? MY .02 cents I am sorry, this is off topic but sometimes you gotta get a little crazy to survive. Please do not mention bandwidth as an issue either and do - -- Best regards, Victor B. For example I get on GC average emailed to me 5 viruses each week. Whilst my Anti-Virus GC software picks them up and quarantines them, how do I configure TB to GC block these senders? Go to filters and block sender/s. If you do not know how to work with filters, it is then time to learn them. If you know how to work with filters but the sender is changing his from address or location often, you might require a more complex filter. To start, see what it is that makes the e-mails from the source the same. See what it is they all have in common. Then before you start on a filter make sure what the bad e-mail has the same does in no way conflict with your regular legitimate e-mail. Work on a filter that now searches for the similarity. Re[2]: Insert macro in Msg
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello Jonathan, When I'm in the AB and have a group selected then start a new Msg. I can't find any 'Macro' Button to Insert Macros into the Msg Body. Can this be confirmed and must I in this case insert macros on my own (e.g. Dear %TOname)? I know exactly how you feel. It's one of the major bummers of TB! in handling mass mailing or on the fly macro creation. The Macros like %TOname you insert in your templates of the AB Group, not in the Message Editor. JA You can always use a Quick Template to produce that kind of affect, True, It took me a while to get how it works but the idea is simple. If you ever wish to put macros into your document so the end receivers can see the true values and not the %%macros you'll have to first create a quick template. Consider the quick template the real editor when it comes to composing your messages to the masses. JA quicktemplatenameCTRL + SPACE JA To insert the content of the Quick Template, including resolved JA Macros. (Replace quicktemplatename to whatever you called it). Re: Problem mirroring my mailboxes on a second computer
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello Michael, MSG I need to have a mirror copy of my mailboxes on a backup computer. The only solution I currently have to help you mirror an inbox is to share your accounts directory with the desktop. I mean file, folder and printer sharing provided by Windows. The only problem I can see arise from this is what actually happens is any changes you make last on one PC will reflect in the next one on next access. MSG My main computer is a laptop and my backup computer is a desktop. MSG Currently, I use the TB Backup function to create a backup file from MSG my laptop which I then move, using PC Anywhere, to my desktop that I MSG use strictly for backup. After I move the file over to the desktop, I MSG do a Restore in TB. You backup on your notebook, pass the file to your desktop and then restore it on your notebook or on your desktop? If you restore TB! files on your desktop it means you're not really using your desktop solely for backup. In this case share the mail account if possible to have both your desktop and notebook access one account. Otherwise backing up TB! is always a good idea and storing it elsewhere is better. MSG The backup/restore process works fine. It brings over all the new MSG messages; however, it also keeps all previous messages, many of which MSG have been deleted from my laptop--or moved from one mailbox to another. If you're deleting messages but they seem to show up after a restore are you purging and compressing all of your folders? I purge, compress, backup and every restore never brought from the dead a message that was meant to be deleted. Purging and compressing your folders I believe will wipe your account of deleted folders, messages and attachments, etc. MSG I'd like to be able to restore all my mailboxes so that the desktop MSG will mirror what is on my laptop. If you share your account the problem will disappear and what will happen is your notebook will mirror your desktop and your desktop mirror your notebook. I have the same setup as yourself. My notebook is my primary and my desktop my secondary. Both run XP and both are connected to each other via a very simple network. I thought running a network will cost and arm and a leg but it's really less than 10.00 dollars to accomplish. Look at the back of your PCs and see if you have 1394 IEEE firewire ports and if you do you're in luck. Your PCs should be able to communicate in live time and at blazing speeds. Nothing beats a stable network for less than 10.00 and a network sure beats almost anything else :) - -- Best regards, Victor B. I assume you know how to work with filters and assume you have all the messages in which you wish to extract sender information. Create a new folder (call it senders), in your account tree select your account, Ctrl + F, Your find dialog box pops up, Select the anywhere check box and enter in the find field a period (.) (no brackets) hit find. This method should find every bit of mail in your account. Highlight the entire list and copy them temporarily into the newly created senders folder. Getting the drift? Create a (read filter) to scan that folder manually and make sure every message is actually read (not marked as unread), and in your new senders filter add senders to the AB. MA Outpost lets you set up permissions for each separate program, so that MA doesn't happen... TF So does Sygate. I thank you all for your input but since Kerio's installation, shes proven easy maintenance :) I did manage to stop the repetitive confirmations and the only problem to it was the program doesn't work like that by default. Re[2]: multi user, only one allowed
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello Allie, TF But a message that has been replied to will have this little TF arrow on the envelope. The next user accessing the mail base TF should see it. ACM Yes, but this doesn't prevent him/her from composing another answer. IMO, Why not then put your foot down and lay down the rules? Not to be smart but if more than one person is to reply to an e-mail you must be running something that is outside of a personal base. I can only come up with 2 solutions at the moment. 1. Lay down the rules, tell your crew to be aware of multiple replies. Move the replied message to a special folder (already replied to). 2. I am sure there is a rule complex enough to move the messages that need a reply and the replies to folders that should probably only be used for reference. 3. If worst comes to worst it just might benefit you! Any customer I am sure would pend most of their business needs on how well support can handle their request. Sometimes two replies just might be better than one :) 3a. Setup a template that tells the user if you get more than one reply to your message it is because we care and aim for the peaks of good business :) I might not have answered you and I am not a marine but sometimes you just have to make due with what you got and most of the time simply improvise with what you have. ACM Also, the message is flagged as replied only after the reply is ACM sent. The two users could be composing replies concurrently. You must be handling your mail at server level where TB! doesn't handle incoming mail and then divides amongst certain parties... If this is the case it is understandable then why two users could be replying to a message at the same time. My only solution would be to create a new off-line rule. Setup a quick template that tells your partners someone is already replying to the request. A B get a question through the mail. A B are about to both reply to it. A B input their energy and resources into it and the person with the question get's 2 replies. How about A B gets the question. A B either informs the other their answering or A B forward their replies to C. I don't know this is all more idea than it is answers probably but I am really just trying to open your mind if I can. SOT: Its official ZAP is out, Kerio now in
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello tbudl, Maybe some of you are aware I've been experiencing *freezes* on my XP system while running The Bat! along side Zone Alarm Pro. Though it rarely happened, maybe once or twice a night it was, for me, too much. The Kerio firewall seemed to be well took by The Bat! community so I've decided to try it. I had problems with Kerio 2s Internet connection sharing and plus it looked dull but the Kerio 3 beta 5 works smooth, great and plus it looks awesome! I really love how it plays firewall with my applications, asking permission if one app can use or install another. That is very cool. There is just one tiny irritant about it. Unlike ZAP it seems to ask for permission for every thread a program can spit out. I would like to say yes to the parent program and all the child threads are permissioned for the session. Is that possible? I ask because 3 of my programs I would have to say yes to dialog boxes close to over 30 times. That is the only real annoying feature but everything else is excellent. I'll get to it in the morning as I am really tired right now but if anybody has a tip to share or something that can help, I'd be entirely thankful. Since you've just created it why not simply import the old profile, rename it and change the pop-smtp settings? CW I've copied the 'account.cfg' file to copy the main configuration of the CW account (I added the new details), but I also want to move my CW personal/local folders and filters. If you really did set up a new account in The Bat! not much (hopefully) went into customizing it yet. IMHO, I would really just import the old, rename change settings. CW Can anyone advise please. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello Simon, MA TB. It's called Outpost and is available from http://www.agnitum.com/ MA and no, I have no connection with hem except as a very satisfied user. SB Of course Victor could always try the 'free for personal use' Sygate SB Personal Firewall as well, which is far better than ZA as well in my, and SB many others' opinions :) If before all of this Kerio wasn't so heavily mentioned I'd probably be confused by now :) Due to my OS halting I made the switch to Kerio. I am using Kerio 3 Beta 5 (2 had a steeper learning curb) and it is amazing. I really, really like it and can not believe it's free. ZAP is a write off... At first the only thing that irritated me was the fact that unlike ZAP, Kerio asked permission for everything... For example, just launching my browser can easily launch open 20+ confirmation boxes and launching my Messenger (I counted this one with show alerts) will open 44. That is a lot of yes's for one program but the default interaction is geared for the highly technical. I was hoping it was like ZAP and would ask permission only once... I went to sleep at 3 woke up at 6:30, got to learning it a bit and the feature is there. I quickly implemented it and presto, now I only get one confirmation box in launching my browser or messenger and I can turn off that confirmation completely If I wish without compromising my PCs security. It is seamless with Internet file sharing and Microsoft Networking which is a definite plus but the biggest plus of all is The Bat! hasn't frozen yet (you think?). I hope all goes well and only time can tell. Thank you all for your help and though ZAP might conflict with TB!, I would still recommend it as Kerio is a little beefier. G found it to be a little programm called VSMON.exe. G it turns out that VSmon.exe is part of an old friend called ZoneLabs :( I know but listen to this... G I don't know how this is possible but I expected it to be part of the G mail check thingy Zonelabs has were it deactivates certain file based on G the extension. I switch that option to No and everything is working now. Are you talking about E-mail Protection Mail Safe Setting off? If that is what you're talking about thanks I just did it as I never download and run anything suspicious anyway. Plus I have Micro Trend PC-cillin running :) But, if that is not what you're talking about please tell me :) G Hope this helps. I just got a Comodo certificate thanks to Simon Blake and it took me about ten anguished minutes to install it. :| but it's in and was just tricky... Heres how I did it. In Internet Explorer I believe go to Tools Internet Options Content Certificates Under personal certificates select your issued certificate and click on export... I had to do this *twice* I'll explain. Just export them to the same folder. you'll be asked for a password somewhere just do not forget it At the first prompt select yes, export the private key. Leave the default radio button checked and check include all certificates + enable strong protection click next. The rest should be easy... Now do it again. Export no do not export private key and select next. Leave DER as default and hit next. Locate where you saved before and hit next. You're done with IE feel free to shut it down. Now in TB! go to account properties edit personal certificates import... Do not import any one individually import them both at the same time. Now double click your newly installed certificates and look at their profile. For all of them you'll do the same thing. Click add to address book and say OK. Go to your certification path and and highlight your parent certificate and click add to trusted. If its blanked out try the next certificate. Only one of them has to get added to the trusted source for all of them to work. I did it, it works and I am happy :) Thanks Simon Blake for getting me started :) Meyns As far as I understand, the certificate must be added to the Trusted Root Meyns CA address book. Probably via New -- Contact, like in the other address Meyns books. Hello Roelof, VBG The Bat! collects their first last name and e-mail address but VBG can I somehow capture there IP address? RO Though it's possible to extract an ip-address from their headers with RO regexp, it's impossible (I think) to extract the last ip-address (when RO reading top down) from the headers, ... you don't want the last one RO when it's an address from one of the local ranges. RO The only possibility would be to hand over the headers to a program or RO script that extracts the ip-address of origin and hands that back to RO TB. If the need would arise that's the way I should advance. Thank you for the info. Of course it's not what I wish to have heard :) The Bat! is so good Vs. other clients and so robust that I think it should just do more... I never thought about mail like this before using OE, Foxmail, hotmail and Mozilla's client. Being introduced it to it I feel like it should be washing my clothes, cooking my food and baby sitting my daughter. :) It's an amazing client but the second I think of something trying to get ahead of it all it's not even implemented :( sheesh... Any Ideas on extracting the senders IP address and somehow putting it into context in an automatic reply back would be very accepted. Re[2]: How do you collect an IP address?
Hello Miguel, The Bat! collects their first last name and e-mail address but can I somehow capture there IP address? MAU you should not worry about the IP address because it is MAU not meaningful. I thought it was a good way to track a PCs location to help at least prove it wasn't someone else that subscribed :| MAU If a user has a dial-up connection, or sends mail MAU or connects to Internet from a any place, his IP address would be MAU different to his normal one I completely understand this one but I also thought that along with a time stamp I'll at least be able to cover my butt in an argument. MAU What counts is the e-mail address... If his e-mail was spoofed MAU and he did not send the request, he will not confirm it. This is probably where the problem lies. I wish to make the operation in-house and single opt-in. I was just hoping that in the case no one can say they didn't opt-in for my broadcast. I do not wish to ever get caught up with spamming or spam related tactics, etc. Would then a pre configured subject line without modification like the following help in covering my butt? ?subject=subscribe_me_in_for_single_opt-in_broadcasting I work with opinions :) Thank you Miguel -- Best regards, Victor B.
