Main Window's main menu shortcuts can be used from other windows, so you should be careful assigning shortcuts to there. 2. Re: Inbox Synchronization in IMAP with TB
Hello Bob, BR Under Manage IMAP Folders, I have most folders (except for trash, BR junk email and All mail) synchronizing set at full messages. I BR don't have junk email and All mail synchronizing at all. Trash is set BR at headers only. Does that sound all right for good use of TB? No, it's not good, if you are always on-line. See my message to Robin for notes about synchronisation. To put in short (sorry, I don't have much time because I'm on a short vacation now, so I'm trying to catch some rest :-), no wonder you have to wait before your messages load - The Bat! should finish the syncrhonisation tasks first. The best way to use IMAP on a DSL connection is just to switch any synchronisation off and read IMAP folders just like they are normal folders. Having said that, I bear in mind that there are some problems for us to solve. We are going to rework IMAP part as we now have more experience with using IMAP in real world, so working with it must become smoother and more predictable. -- Best regards, Stefan Current version is 4.0.24.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Inbox Synchronization in IMAP with TB
Hello Robin, RA Hmm, I don't think that I really understand what synchronising and RA subscribing mean in relation to IMAP. Can you explain it, or point to a web RA resource that does So IMAP subscription defines the set of folders (mailboxes in IMAP terms) you want to read often. For example, your company's IMAP server provides access to numerous shared folders available, but you need to check only some of them, so you subscribe to your personal folders and those several shared folders you are going to read. Synchronisation is a bit more tricky. Basically, The Bat! always synchronises message headers in the folders you visit, so if you have a speedy and permanent connection, you don't need to use any explicit synchronisation, it will actually slow down your work because synchronisation is a relatively slow process which blocks other operations (such a reading, copying, moving, setting flags etc) until it finishes. But in some cases you may want to have local copies of some folders with full messages or you get offline often, in this case synchronisation helps you to download data before you go offline by one click while you are shaving, having breakfast or choosing a tie (but not when you wish to read some emails right now). -- Best regards, Stefan Current version is 4.0.24.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Gmail and TB, virus checking problem
Hello Susanne, S I'm downloading my gmail with TB and run ESET S anti-virus. S It seems, gmail can't be checked for viruses in TB S and I'm getting a lot of error messages. That's because GMail uses TLS (secured) connection so anti-virus cannot intercept the data seamlessly. You should either find a way to configure anti-virus to serve as a proxy or use another anti-virus program with a plug-in for The Bat! -- Best regards, Stefan Current version is 4.0.24.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Move message on exit
Hello Jack, JSL Wow. Logically you'd have thought that would've worked... but it JSL doesn't. Thanks for trying though. Actually, everything works as it should, the trick is to read settings carefully. :-) When you click the Trash icon, the normal deletion is used. When you purge messages, the alternative deletion is used by default. If you want both actions to have the same effect, you should uncheck the Use alternative deletion for purge option at the Deletion page and configure the normal deletion to move messages to the archive folder. -- Best regards, Stefan Current version is 4.0.24.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Inbox Synchronization in IMAP with TB
Hello Bob, BR In short, so far I think Evolution is easier to set up for IMAP, and BR the best settings seem to be built in as default. In TB, the settings BR require more fine-tuning, and I am asking this list if there is a setting BR in TB that will allow me to read new incoming messages when I first BR select them? If you don't do any fine-tune, you should get TB! working good and fast with GMail's IMAP. At least, it works this way here. Synchronisation settings should be used only if you want to stay offline for a while or want TB! to prefetch some data before you start reading it. Generally, I would not recommend any synchronisation if you have almost permanent connection to the Net. -- Best regards, Stefan Current version is 4.0.24.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re[2]: Submission Forms?
Hello MFPA, The theory is clear but how do you actually add/use a submission forms template? The forms in version 3.5 were significantly changed. The new forms work only with certificates (yet - PGP will be supported in the next release) and they are in HTML format now. To create a new form: 1. Prepare HTML form in any HTML editor capable to create/edit forms. 2. Use the Options|Submission Forms menu command 3. Click Add 4. Choose the form name and the file it will be stored in (you may use the Browse button) 5. Click the Load button and select the HTML form you've prepared. 6. Configure the form parameters and save the form. Well, the new form system is quite cryptic in some aspects, but it's now possible to create and maintain forms more easily. -- Best regards, Stefanmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Current version is 3.5.0.17 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: Customised shortcuts working where they shouldn't.
Hello Allie, AM Unfortunately, this shortcut works when the editor is in focus. I AM assigned the shortcut as N, and now in the editor, I can't type 'n' AM when editing. This is normal behaviour - it's very much like the previous versions. The menu of the main window is considered as global and it handles all keystrokes that were not handled by menus of the currently active window. Therefore, single-character shortcuts should not be used in the main window menus, such shortcuts should be defined in pop-up menus of window panes. -- Cheers! Hello Steve, SL The way we did it in VA (sorry to keep bringing that up) was to always SL have the threads opened by default This can be done by change message list column settings. SL Unlike in The Bat! and Outlook, the messages in VA never changed SL status from unread to read in x seconds while reading. Instead, SL hitting the return key to move to the next message marked it as SL unread. Thank you for pointing to this. We already have a possibility to read messages using the Space key. I've added two more options to space bar reading today: to move to the next unread message (requested before) and to mark message as read when taking off the current message. Also, a new action SmartSpace reading is added, so it's possible to add the action to the local menu of message list, preview and/or folder tree and define another hot-key (like Enter). -- Cheers! Re[3]: Threading
Hello Steve, SL Is there are away to automatically open any threads with unread SL messages to save having to click one's way down the chain? Funny enough, I was talking about the same thing a couple of days ago. Basically, it's not a problem to expand threads automatically to make unread messages visible, but for massive threads like we have in TB! lists, it would jam screen with the same thread making neighbour threads with unread messages out of the screen. If you're using keyboard most of time, Ctrl+Left/Right would be better (Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right in preview pane). Mouse: in 3.5, you can create a floating toolbar with navigation buttons (hmm... I guess, we should ask our artist to create glyphs for moving to unread messsages). I'm using MS mices on two of my PCs, so I defined additional mouse buttons to move to the next unread message and to move back to previously viewed. -- Cheers! I can confirm what Bill has noted, and the cruise JBL up/down buttons do not work in the preview pane, although the normal JBL wheel does. OK, I've just made a fix which seems to be effective for cruise buttons - it looks like the driver sends wheel events directly to the control (unlike standard scroll events - they are sent to the owning window and that was the problem). When I send messages in English, I'm always sure that they're going out in us-ascii, no need to change anything here. Now, imagine I'm sending a message in English to some of those servers from the above - in best case, I'll get my message back saying server could not process it because an unknown character set. But I used only English! :-) Do you see my point? Another point - some MUAs may/will choose different fonts for viewing messages in a non-Western character set because of font mangling... TF What you do is change the encoding despite the sender's explicit TF wish. Not exactly. I wish my messages I write in Russian to go out in the character set I choose. But if I write messages in English, I don't want to mess with switching my encoding - all I want is just to write a message and be sure the recipient will be able to read it without any problems :-) -- Cheers! Won't that be a better solution to find a simple workaround (like adding an 8-bit character like your name in Cyrillic or non-breaking space Alt+0160 in your template) ? :-) MK Also, as you see from the quted discussion at nobat.ru, the whole MK issue shows some massive misunderstanding of (I would even say MK illiteracy in reading of) RFCs: people keep saying you've MK implemented it this way because of RFC compliance Some people do believe that the current behaviour is more RFC-compliant, but my opinion (and experience) is - the current behaviour is more logical, safe and convenient. -- Cheers! In fact, at the early age TB! was functioning your way (i.e. it was setting character set even though there were no characters from that CS in the message at all), but we changed it to the current behaviour after cases caused by systems described above...
