Ok, we have the first conclusions of what should be done for a full migration
from a v5 implementation to a v6 one.
First of all, with Terminatooor scripts, we are used to make initial load of
data (partners, products, initial stock...) that it's purely the creation of
new records for each
@sharoonthomas
Another example is the 'certification' of modules. The most recent being the
certification of magento openerp integration, where customers pay hefty to
openerp to give them a certified version of a community module (supposedly
with better quality). I assume the module then
@fabien
well, this one is the really good :), this reveals the real freedom of yours.
This one is better, everyone must use this one...

@albertnan
We offer support for the ERP implementation. We dont differentiate 'certified',
non certified, commercial/propreitary etc in our implementations. Its one
support and just one, whether he has a bug in the purchase module, or another
community module, we fix it.

Hi Carlos,
your right, modify the schema isn't the way to go.
Migrate full data is the way to go.
As long as mapping the fields one to one between 2 database, the work is
doable, but as always with ERP version upgrades, many new fields are added,
some are deleted, logic is changed and

By making the migration module we tried to address two problems:

Hi Forum,
I've installed the wiki module and created some wiki articles.
Now I have to give my users also a full text search thru the wiki articles.
But how is this done?
Does anyone have a solution?
Thangs a lot

If understand well, I think you are right and migration can be easier,
following the example you provided. But, that shows a simple renaming of a var
(packing renamed into shipment), we have to handle a whole migration carefully.
I think we have to study it deeply, and also I
I guess the Akration tool is only a technical diff tool and that is definitely
a good start. Perhaps someone of Akretion can comment on this.
But there are several/many changes to the functionality e.g. my example on
changes in account types to support the new P/L reporting.
This example is

Just for the ones that needs some more information about data migration in a
ERP here is a good overview that covers the area's involved.

A must read for everyone who now thinks that migrating is only data mapping

@janneman
Nobody says that it (our migration approach) will fit all the cases. It is just
an option, which, BTW fits many installations, as most OpenERP setups do not
handle hundreds of thousand of records.
People just need, what they need, and you can not tell them, that they have to
@scraps
Don't get me wrong, I support a open source migration tool for OpenERP, best to
have it in OpenERP itself.
The discussion started with data mapping between tables, but in my opinion is
is much more. That's why I did bring in my comments, so we could together
brainstorm about the
@scraps, note that I haven't tested your framework, it's in my todo list, so
maybe it already solves more or less all cases. I think the advantage of having
the migration process with an external tool instead of inside the modules
themselves is that it's more flexible when there are exceptions

@albertca
What's the problem with with doing the migration using the same modules and
then adding the new ones?
The problem:if the module if it intended to be installed on a clean database
without any records in that model. You will not be able to move data and then
add the needed module.

Sorry, then IMHO the module is broken and would need to provide a way to solve
that.

@janneman,
Guys,
First: we agree with Carlos Liebana: sometimes you can migrate only some data
from one OpenERP to an other OpenERP, this can easily be done with
OOOR/TerminatOOOR scripts or an other tech. But this is not suitable to migrate
the whole ERP with things like accounting,
The purpose was to make quick load tests to have an idea.
I went on with Python for the threads.
I'll try your solution. Wierd that it seems to have differents ways of
writting it.
Thanks a lot.
Allez, hop, retournons au boulot, maintenant!!
@rvalyi
But this is not suitable to migrate the whole ERP with things like
accounting, partial reconciliations etc... (as ids, states will changes...)
Our migration tool handles ID mapping automatically out of the box. It is even
possible to do dynamic mapping, like connecting account

It just means that tests are run only when you check the box Include Demo
Data when you create a new database. (because most of the automated tests rely
on demo data for their scenario)
