I had suspected that 7.6 was the most likely reason for this not
working.
I've gone to 7.5 now and all is working fine, except I'm back to having
long scanning time and a slow web interface.

Cool I got the Patch Installer working and have jstraws wonderful VU
meter.
2 questions:
1. I noticed when switching to the VU meters during now playing that
the Song info and play scrobbler are overlapping above the meters.
