Confirmed. These have been bugging me for years. I used to think it was
a compositor bug and those windows were meant to have properly rounded
corners. But now I think it's just the toolkit/apps drawing them. Let's
assume the poorly chosen bitmap is part of ubuntu-themes... I'm not

instead.

I also encountered this on a xenial machine where the upgrade somehow
was broken, and 'apt install' would give the following errors:
Preconfiguring packages ...
Setting up util-linux (2.27.1-6ubuntu3.2) ...
insserv: Service mountdevsubfs has to be enabled to start service hwclock
insserv: exiting
Still the case in 14.04: the USC star icons are different from the
standard ones seen in Rhythmbox (for example), but the standard ones are
too nasty to use.
