I get the same thing on my desktop computer running 8.04/Firefox 3 (but not firefox 2) with the non-free nvidia drivers. However, I don't get it on my laptop which has an Intel graphics card, so I think it's a driver problem. It's kind of odd that the only page I'm able to replicate this bug

Yup, it's a problem that only occurs on FAT formatted drives, as they are case preserving but not case sensitive. The file browser compares the name you're changing the file to all the names of the files in the folder to make sure you aren't duplicating the name. Since it is not case sensitive,
